If all you read is this title just know that many people, including myself have had to leave this hotel. Just horrific.

Just don't stay here and especially DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE TRAVELING ALONE! Within an hour of checking in I actually returned to the check in desk to ask if this was a locals only hotel and confirm if tourists were welcome or not. This resort is heavily dominated by Mexican locals who go there for vacation but the issue really arose by the fact that the hotel, pools, beach and restaurant are open to people in the small town surrounding the hotel. I was pushed multiple times just while walking down the path, someone grabbed my personal belonging that I had in the chair beside me and threw them on the table without saying a word so that they could take the chair (in an already mostly vacant restaurant). Had I known I would be such an outsider and so heavily discriminated against I would not have stayed here. Even the staff were rude, dismissive and often pretended to not understand me, I was hard pressed to find a staff member willing to even speak with me. Everytime I spoke it felt like it added ten years to a staff members life. There was a serious lack of management, after midnight when the banging on my room wall connecting to the bar became so extensive I couldn't sleep they had to call in a manager from a different hotel because they had no one there to help me switch rooms. I was told by some fellow Canadians that I would be unsafe on the beach and even walking in the lower part of the hotel by myself. The hotel was incredibly small and there were multiple areas closed off, only 2 bars and two restaurants open which heavily differed from the website. The outside wall of the hotel connected to an alley filled with people living in tents and in their vehicles, that area was smothered in barbed wire and only about a 70 second walk from my room. There was a rather large portion of the hotel that was closed off, originally when I saw it it wasn't blocked off but had been the next day when I went back to take pictures. The area had many rooms all without doors, a pool that was heavily grown over and a foul color, debris from what looked like construction everywhere but there was no other evidence of continuing construction. It looked like something out of a movie scene, abandoned, washed out and just a hazard. The hotel is outdated which I expected and was fine with but I was not expecting the reality of the conditions. I mentioned I was often pushed or body checked by the locals while walking down the path... the path had MASSIVE holes both on it and beside it which created a significant hazard. I had to leave the hotel early as my safety situation escalated, I moved to the other nearby Decameron hotel and I was not the only one. Upon my arrival at the Decameron los cocos there was a family on a honey moon who had booked 2 rooms for them and their children. They found out when they got there that the hotel had condensed them to one room with many extra cots and when this family tried to rebuttal the hotel informed them that there were no extra rooms available. As I was making my exit a family approached me asking if I was leaving/where I was going to. They had arrived 20 minutes earlier and knew immediately they needed to leave, I later saw them at the hotel we moved to and they made me feel better about the fact that we were all mislead by the reviews online about the Decameron los cocos. I also met one other couple at the new hotel who had moved and realized by the way that the hotel staff treated me upon my arrival and by the script like monologue that was giving to me when I arrived telling me all the many ways this hotel was different from the latter, this is a common occurrence. Don't waste your time trying to stay here, it's not worth the experience and the price is incredibly close to the the Decameron in Bucerias which is massive and beautiful and full of friendly people and close to the Puerto Vallarta airport.
Going down hill. Hopefully they pull it back together.

I have been here numerous times. This time however it wasnt the same. It has gone downhill big time. Check in was a joke. Sat for hours while people fumbled with registration. Finally after approximately 3 hours i got checked in. The room was ok. Clean. The safe that was in the room was NOT bolted down. Not much good to lock up your valuables if they can just pick up the safe and leave with it. The food was still very good for an all inclusive and was always served hot. Snack bar was also very well managed. However the bar tender at the building 4 pool bar had a tendency to drink while working and was a drunken mess on more than one occasion. He had to be finally removed by security. Hopefully they get it together as this is a nice resort for the most part. Wont say dont go but will let ya know it isnt all roses and rainbows anymore. I did enjoy my stay but it has definitely gone down hill since Wyndham has taken over.
Decameron Los Cocos = THE BEST

We love the Decameron Los Cocos! We spent three wonderful weeks in Cocos 5 in February. The staff are the best! Every single person we interacted with were friendly and helpful! Our maid Jazmin was wonderful and kept our room in good order. Two of the breakfast and lunch waiters made our breakfast and lunch visits so pleasant. Both Jose, and Jordy were so much fun! Juan, the security guard was so pleasant. Manual, the bell hop was very welcoming and just a very nice individual. The resort is lovely, the grounds are beautiful, and in my opinion the best Decameron of all in Guayabitos.
Our 3rd time at this resort and we'd go back again

We were at this hotel 12 years ago, and again 3 years ago, and we returned again because we loved it. All the staff were friendly and helpful no matter what we asked. The grounds were very well maintained. The room was spacious and, although a bit dated, very clean. The safe was new and worked flawlessly. The key card access was also new and we never had a problem unlocking it. Lots of options on site - 2 bars open from 11:00 to 11:00 and another from 11:00 to 2:00. A quiet, adults only pool, as well as 3 other pools all monitored by security. The beach could have used a few more lounge chairs and umbrellas or palapas, but the otherwise it was great. Lots of kayaks, boogie boards and bicycles (with helmets) to borrow. They were a little lacking in daytime organized activities. Weekends were hectic with an influx of locals, which made for long lineups at the buffet and bars, but we like the fun and partylike atmosphere they make - always laughing and having a good time. Food was varied and fresh at every meal. We'd go back again.
Great value

This is an older hotel that is far from the airport, the wifi seemed to work only in the lobbies of each floor ( nice seating area) That being said, its clean, its safe, the people are extremely friendly, lots of pool chairs around the pools and on the beach. It has a list of drinks posted with their ingredients at the bar for people wanting to try something new. We walked from our hotel to the Decameron coral (20 min walk on the beach) and got to enjoy free drinks there which was nice. I think its a great value for your money, but if you are accustomed to 5*, you wont like it here. If you are looking for a great deal with Mexican authenticity, clean rooms, friendly atmosphere then you will like it here. I personally enjoyed the food, the breakfast omelet lady would sing when so worked. I will miss that.
