Maybe the worst hotel I have visited in the Caribbean

I never like giving bad reviews, but this place has earned it. Probably the worst hotel I have stayed at in the Caribbean (from maybe 15 trips). Most small hotels develop a reputation for being really friendly to the guests. You encounter the same staff every day. Some staff at Sea Breeze smile and are polite, however many of the staff are dour, ignore you until you actually ask for some service and then the service does not come with a smile. Management really need to pick up on this. The hotel is advertised as all inclusive. When we were shown to our room (2 bedroom suite), the man who showed us the room explained what we had in the room, including snacks and a mini bar. He said it would all be replenished each day. We drank the bottle of Prosecco from our fridge and expected it to be replaced; we even confirmed with him that the Prosecco would be replaced. When it was not replaced my girlfriend called reception to ask for it to be replaced and was told “we’ll get back to you”… no-one ever got back to us. I went down to the bar to ask for a bottle and was told that the Prosecco was never replenished. The same went for the crisps etc, we could buy more from the gift shop. We were paying over £780 per night, every night, why is it the first night you get Prosecco and not the others; and why were we told it would be replenished. It seems penny pinching from Sea Breeze. Also the room had a coffee maker, but after the first day the hotel had run out of coffee pods! We asked if we could have a late check out, sadly not possible but we understood. We could leave our luggage in the departure luggage store. This is a nothing more than a cupboard that is stacked full of unused furniture, rolled up carpets and other cardboard boxes; it is neither locked nor guarded. It is about 10 metres from the public road. Anyone could walk in. I was uneasy about leaving our luggage somewhere that was only marginally more secure than leaving it in the car park. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world and have always had somewhere secure to leave my luggage on check out day. I asked for somewhere better to store it and was offered to opportunity to leave it on a walkway! Then the receptionist offered that I could speak to the manager (it was offered, I did not request it). I was told the manager was in a meeting and would see me in 15 mins. After 30 minutes, no show. After an hour no show. Typical of the disdain this hotel has for their guests. There seems to be a shortage of sun loungers on the beach and by the pools. Loads of signs saying “do not reserve sun loungers”. The actual loungers are old and in poor condition, as are the beach towels. Many loungers and towels need to be replaced. The hotel has 3 restaurants and a pool cafe. From my experience, only “Cerulean” is any good. The other a la carte restaurant (Aqua Terra) is not very good and the buffet is poor too. Service in Cerulean was also good, while in Aqua Terra we were ignored again on arrival. We had numerous experiences of dishes at the buffet running out and not being replaced and the quality was little better than a transport cafe. I had a burger from the pool cafe. It was very poor quality and massively over cooked and very dry. It was advertised as coming with pickles and cheese, but neither arrived. This hotel really does not seem to care about their guests. There are many hotels on Barbados, I suggest to try another one!
A trip to remember

What can I say, what a wonderful hotel. From the staff, to the location and experience overall. All the staff are welcoming and do their best to help you. Wonderful service. The location is beautiful, the hotel is clean and always tidy. Plenty of options for food and drinks. Would definitely recommend.
I am being honest with my opinions. This was a beautiful island.

Overall, the stay went well. There were a few issues to accept, but I still enjoyed my stay. The guests I met were enjoyable and friendly.
Can’t wait to return.

We booked the Sea Breeze as a substitute for a hotel we had stayed in a couple of years ago just up the coast. What a substitute ! We had a wonderful fortnight at the hotel and it will be our go-to choice when we return to Barbados. The first and most fantastic thing about the hotel is its position. It has a wide front directly onto the absolutely beautiful Maxwell Beach. This is a beautiful bay of white sand and a calmer than average sea. The hotel includes catamaran trips, and surf boards etc in their all inclusive package. This is the next great feature of the hotel - the AI offer. Breakfast is buffet and always in the Mahogany restaurant. There are two other restaurants, the Acqua Terra and the Cerulean, a cafe next to the Mahogany that does lunches and drinks, one on the beach called Tipsy on the Beach and another called the Rum Shop. These are not all open at the same time, and you need to refer to the week’s timetable which can seem a bit confusing at first. You also need to book for where you want to eat each evening. Our favourite was the Cerulean, but the seafood buffet at the Mahogany is not to be missed. It is wonderful - smoked salmon, prawns, mussels, crab and lobster - just help yourself. There is always an a la carte option which is not always the case with all-inclusive. Another nice little touch is the offer of afternoon tea. Drinks are branded - not just local versions with a fair range of cocktails. Generally the food was of a much better quality than the more common buffet-style AI offer. It is true that some areas of the hotel are rather tired - we had an issue with our bathroom, but that was solved very quickly once we spoke directly with a manager. It is also the case that, while most staff were friendly and helpful, often going the extra mile in order to help, this was not universal and we did come across a couple of rather surly colleagues. We tended to use the beach sun beds rather than the pool and these were plentiful and the beach is big so there was no sense of crowding. We will definitely make the Sea Breeze our first choice when we return to Barbados.
