Location great, but first-and-a-half floor room had problems

Stayed two nights at end of June/start of July. The location is great, right on the main street where it's happening and people are walking back and forth all evening long. You just leave the front entrance and walk along with them. The outside of the hotel is very attractive. The parking garage is right there but a challenge to maneuver in due to tight spaces and turns. The breakfast was so-so; had it one morning, skipped it the next and got stuff at the nearby IGA supermarket instead. The floor arrangement is odd, with some half-floors. Our 100-level room was up a level from the hotel's entrance but at the same level as an entrance to the establishment next door that was above part of the parking garage. As a result, there were parked cars and sometimes people right outside our window and we couldn't really keep our shades open. Worse, the room ran hot and because we couldn't keep the window open either, we had to run the AC all the time. And the AC unit was really loud. So I would run it for a while, turn it off for a while, run it again, etc. Otherwise the room and bath were okay.
Restaurant facilities and food not good

Got to this hotel looking forward to some nice food and recreation in Banff, on the first morning went for the buffet breakfast and to say it was terrible would be an understatement. All the food was cold, bacon burnt and dried up, and don’t know what they used to make scrambled eggs but they were like powder. Next day we were booked on a trip so went down when the breakfast open only to find the restaurant facilities could not cope with the volume of people coming down, so never got breakfast which we paid for. All in all food we had ( when we could get in the restaurant) was rubbish so did not bother with going back for other food I suggest you find another hotel if you want a good meal
I didn’t book this hotel and wouldn’t recommend it

Our room was very very gloomy! So poorly lit we had to use our phone torches to check what was in our suitcases. We asked reception about the lighting situation but… Breakfast was the same every morning - over cooked scrambled egg, over cooked bacon, a poor attempt at hash browns and pale weary looking sausages. That’s it!!! No tomato no beans no mushroom no fried eggs. There were some weary precooked pancakes but…. The coffee was good! Would NOT recommend this hotel
Great place to stay in Banff.

I spent 3 nights at Ptarmigan Inn, comfortable room, air-conditioning, adequate bathroom, strangely the vanity was in actual room outside of bathroom, but that fact didn’t pose any problems. I also had breakfast included and there was ample food and choices. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is a restaurant on site - Meatball Pizza and Pasta - I had one meal there and food was good, staff efficient and friendly. The Ptarmigan Inn is located in Banff Ave a short walk from the main shopping area, and an IGA one block away. A local bus stops outside the Inn and hotel staff will give you a free bus pass when registering. I would recommend the Ptarmigan if contemplating a visit to Banff.
Worse than a one star hotel

Worst than a one star hotel. Rude and passive aggressive receptionists. No place to park in the garage. Gave us a room in 1st floor. Opened the shade and a guy in the street was waving at us. Evidently they have rooms since it seems everyone knows about this hotel, nevertheless they did not allow us to switch our rooms with another one to be able to see the light and keep our dignity in the same time. We stayed in the dark our whole stay. Beware, Extremely poor choice and ah I forgot it was $500 per night
