Friendly helpful staff throughout the hotel. Good food at breakfast and in the evening served by first class staff. Lovely spacious and clean room

We stayed at the Banff Ptarmigan on our Rocky Mountaineer pre-train tour. It's a very comfortable hotel conveniently located in central Banff, easy walking distance of local cafes, restaurants and attractions.

Biggest problem was the thermostat in the room did not work and no help from the staff. You get the temperature they want evidently. Unique name, but standard chain hotel room. No breakfast, no newspaper (even for sale). World's slowest elevator. A free Roam (bus) pass comes with the room - as with most hotels in town, but our clerk did not offer it. We had to ask. Great location on the main street, but still quiet.

Nice cosy hotel within walking distance of all Banff has to offer. We were here as part of a group, so didn’t personally book this hotel. Our room was large, with a decent sized bathroom and small balcony, that sadly only overlooked other rooms, instead of a stunning view. The room was clean, the beds very comfortable and the bathroom well stocked. We only encountered the reception and bar staff, who were polite and friendly. We used the hot tubs and sauna, ( we had the place to ourselves) which were very nice and kept clean. I would happily stay here again….??

I picked the Ptarmigan Inn because I thought it looked nice in the pictures. On a driving holiday from Australia, I was trying to keep the hotel costs under $1000 per night as the accommodation costs in the summer season are high and the exchange rate with the American dollar poor. We had a "superior" room at the inn and paid around $700au per night for two nights. This is only a 3 star hotel. By the end of September the price drops to under $200au per night. The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had been updated and food in the restaurant was decent. Staff are friendly and accommodating and there is free parking. It is also in a good location. We were however disappointed and annoyed by a number of things. The temperatures were high and air conditioning was necessary. The old wall unit was unbelievably loud, sounding like a generator. It is astounding to me that hotels think it is okay to offer rooms with such noise disturbance and expect guests to pay any price, let alone the high summer price. Our friends' room was the same. The superior room was small and dark. There was no room for suitcases and the lighting was so dim you had to use your phone torch to see in your suitcase. The decor and furniture is very outdated. Would not recommend.
