Exhausted Travelers Met with a Very Un-Disney Experience
motorbikecrafts (Los Angeles, California) on Mar 15, 2026
Our stay at the Disneyland Hotel started in the worst possible way, and I feel obligated to warn other travelers about our experience. After 12 hours of travel, including two flights and the commute from LAX, my family arrived completely exhausted. All we wanted was a shower and some sleep. Check-in itself went smoothly, though our reservation required switching rooms after the first night (one cash night followed by five DVC nights). The cast member did try to help us avoid moving rooms, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, things went downhill the moment we entered our room in the Fantasy Tower. The room was extremely underwhelming for a hotel charging over $700 per night. Unlike Disney resorts in Florida, there were virtually no recognizable Disney touches. The room felt dated and generic—old carpet, bland wallpaper, and décor that looked like it belonged in any off-property hotel. We later learned the Fantasy Tower rooms haven’t been updated like those in the Adventure Tower, and it definitely shows. Still, we were tired enough to overlook the dated room—until we walked into the bathroom. The bath mat had a large gray stain on it that looked like mold. Worse, there appeared to be fecal matter smeared on the bathroom door. The door handle also had a white crusty residue on it. At that point, there was no way we could ignore it. Around 11:30 PM, after a full day of travel and with our 10-year-old daughter exhausted, I went down to the front desk to report the issue. I was told housekeeping would come, but when I asked how long the wait might be, the response was simply “I don’t know.” No effort to check. No attempt to expedite the situation. Trying to be reasonable, I asked if they could provide cleaning supplies so I could quickly sanitize the bathroom myself so my daughter could use it and go to sleep. The suggestion I received was to buy antibacterial wipes from the gift shop and get reimbursed later. At that point I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was repeatedly told by two cast members that there was no supervisor available. When I asked when one would be available, the answer was again “I don’t know.” Even asking about the next morning got the same response. It took four cast members gathering around the desk before someone finally told me that a supervisor named Brie would be available in the morning. Ironically, the first person who actually provided the level of service I expected from Disney wasn’t at the front desk—it was a Housekeeping manager who approached me during this exchange. She was professional, apologetic, and immediately asked to see the room so she could resolve the issue. Within about 10 minutes, a housekeeper arrived and cleaned the bathroom so we could finally shower and use it without staring at fecal matter. While I appreciate the professionalism of the housekeeping manager and the cleaner who ultimately fixed the issue, it’s extremely disappointing that: A room in this condition passed inspection in the first place Front desk staff seemed unable or unwilling to escalate the problem Guests paying premium prices were told to buy their own cleaning supplies For a hotel with the reputation and pricing of the Disneyland Hotel, this experience was unacceptable. Travelers should be aware that not all rooms are updated and that cleanliness and service may not meet the expectations you’d normally associate with Disney.
Another Disney Adventure

Deluxe View Room (Adventure Tower) We have stayed 8 nights in March 2025, Originally we were booked for a standard view room, however upon check in we were advised that our room had the 2 queen bed set up and if we wanted to have a room with a king bed, we will need to upgrade to a deluxe view room due to availability at the time. We have decided to for the upgrade at check-in, as we much prefer a king bed. Overall, the stay was pleasant and we generally enjoy our stays at this hotel. I have the history and Disney feeling this hotel provides but let’s just say, the value of this is very much disappearing when comparing to previous trips. Previously, we have enjoyed the 1 hour early into a Disneyland resort park benefit of this hotel, on this 2025 trip, that was reduced to 30mins and at the time I write this review in 2026, this benefit is completely gone. This hotel was never about “value” but the removal of benefits reduced its appeal and specialness. Our room had a view of the Disneyland Hotel pool which is nice in the day and beautiful at night when its all lit up. The space in the room itself for just the 2 of us was plenty, but with a larger group it could feel a bit tight, but that would be normal any standard hotel room. The room had a small refresh since our last visit in 2018 which was nice, but the bathrooms are really showing their age. Location is great as it is on Disney property, so right outside of hotel is Downtown Disney, which you walk through to the 2 parks (5-10min walk). We enjoy the walk between the park and the hotel however some people say it’s a bit too far but that all really comes down to personal preferences and situations. The security process can be time consuming at times, this is certainly something Disney needs to work on by improving the efficiency/time it takes to get through security screening, especially at peak times. Overall, I still say this is a great hotel for people that love Disney and love Disneyland history, however if that doesn’t mean that much you, I suggest staying at an off-property hotels at a lower price point including some of the true luxury hotels (JW Marriott & Westin).
