Even with a category 4 hurricane, still a wonderful experience!

Kim S (Avenel, New Jersey) on Jul 06, 2024

I just got back from Grenada ???? on July 5th. I stayed from June 27-July 4th. My stay was simply amazing. There is nothing bad to say. The water is pristine! Sooo clear and calm. My husband and I are beach people, not pool, but both pools are beautiful. I love the fact that there is a party pool with swim up bar and DJ, but also a quiet pool. Depending on your mood you can go back and forth. Beach- there are 2 areas that are both amazing. There is never a shortage of beach chairs and towels. Always people coming to bring you drinks or if you want food. There are 2 walk out piers that are great for pictures. The water is a beautiful green/turquoise color. Restaurants - all amazing! I honestly loved the pizza place Dino’s and the coffee place. There are only 2 restaurants you have to make reservations for, the hibachi and steakhouse. My opinion is the French and Italian restaurants food was better than the steakhouse. I am a vegetarian, and ALL restaurants have vegetarian options that are tasty. Activities- the sailboats, paddle boats, 3pm tour around the island, teach you to scuba all included. Bar - there are many options and they make anything you want. The bartenders also have their own creative drinks. Room service - comes 2x for the day. If you call they will bring you anything you need. HURRICANE BERYL - we experienced this category 4 hurricane while we enjoying our stay. They called all the guests in to the area they call the “living room” which we were advised what to do. We had to stay in our rooms from 9pm - till whenever they told us it was ok to come out. They asked us not to leave under any circumstances and to call if we needed anything. The night wasn’t as bad because you went to sleep, but the next you did get antsy. The resort brought us breakfast to our room during the hurricane and apologized. We were finally allowed out of the rooms at 5 pm hr next day. Only 2 restaurants were open. They delivered letters to our room explaining the power was out, they were short staffed, and to please be patient. All of this is understandable. The workers that were at the resort was working so hard to help. Also trying to clean up the resort and get things back to “normal”. I cannot say enough about how hard the staff worked even with their sister island withstanding so much damage and their own personal homes. For this alone this resort deserves nothing less than a 5 star review. It took about 2 full days for everything to be up and functioning, but when u think about a category 4 hurricane hit, that is nothing less than a reflection of the staff and Sandal’s employees . Star employees that made my stay unforgettable: Coffee shop- all the staff was wonderful, but *Valda and Rachel are so sweet and no matter how crazy my coffee order was, they makes it with a smile. *Claudia at the bar made the most original drinks and happy to do it *Kisselle at the bar is one of the most genuine peron I have met. She sees me walking from the pool to the bar to get my drinks. And says to me why are you going to the bar? Let me get that for you. And when my husband went to the bar she remembered what we ordered. She is just extra happy and would do anything for you. *Kenneth was all around the resort. Always saying hello and asking about your day or if we needed anything. He took some beautiful pictures of me and hubby on the hammock. *Gerard- when we we’re departing from ten resort. He thanked all of us and just was so kind. He and 2 other thing ladies sang a song. This was my first stay at a sandals resort and all that you hear about the service and food is absolutely true. It is worth every single penny. I already booked my next Sandals vacation before leaving the resort. There is nothing bad that I can say. Tips for others thinking of going: If you get the beachfront room with the tub, keep in mind you are very close to the other people next door. Depending on who you are next to they can be loud. They can play music, get up extra early, and if they traveled with other couples they come and hang out. I did not stay in this room, but I saw what was happening and very happy I didn’t have they room. If you stay on the more expensive/party side you are farther away from the beach. It’s is literally a 5 min ride from airport. They pick you up and drop you off with no problems. WiFi is great. It is freezing in the steakhouse. Ladies bring a sweater Different entertainment every night.

10/10 recommend

We could not have been more pleased with our recent stay at Sandals Grenada. The island was stunning and the staff were just incredible. Everyone we encountered was so kind, friendly and helpful. At the end of our stay hurricane Beryl came through and the staff could not have been more wonderful. This was a catastrophic event for their island, families and homes and they still stayed with us around the clock to keep us safe, fed and happy. The manager of the resort even emailed me back personally several times leading up to the storm and went way above and beyond to help us with some concerns. I really cannot say enough about how amazing our time was at Sandals Grenada despite a major hurricane coming through. We can’t wait to return! Kudos to the management and staff for their handling of the resort during a very scary time.

Overpriced, overrated and average

Returned after 20 years as married here in 2004 when La Source. Wedding great - anniversary underwhelming. Thought 'go the whole hog' - Virgin Upper Class - most expensive penthouse suite with plunge pool and butler. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!! Arrived Saturday evening and butler Wavel showed us the room and seemed OK. Showed us evening dining for the week - different times and restaurants. Cannot understand how anyone would want dinner at 17.30 one night and 20.00 the next. Perhaps it's just me. We only eat plain food so assumed Sandals would consult before booking us into Italian, Japanese, French restaurants for the week. When I advised Wavel that the restaurants were not acceptable he stated he would reschedule. Unpacked, went to bed. Saw Wavel the following morning as we were touring grounds. He stated that 'pub' would be available that evening. Visited the 'pub' on our tour and 'what a dump'. Rang Wavel at 11.45 to advise not acceptable only to be told that there was a manager and guest meeting at 12.00. Meeting was concerning Hurricane Beryl. No problem as encountered hurricanes before in Caribbean. Emergency food - apples, oranges, etc delivered to room later by Jack and Wavel. I asked Jack why we were only told about the meeting when I rang and there was no phone record of any attempt. Had I not rung we may never have known. I understand that hurricanes are extremely dangerous and told Jack that the list of problems with the extremely expensive room - low battery warning on safe, no plug in bath, shower sprayed everywhere but on me, broken mirror in bathroom - would obviously not be a priority until everyone were safe again. However this is not 'their first rodeo'. Following morning as Beryl was about to hit breakfast was delivered at about 09.00. Adequate and acceptable. Some not able to eat but that was fine. Storm abated to more normal weather. No communication so rang operator at 15.00 about accessing something to eat. No feast just something simple. No room service but could send 'snacks'. "That's fine". A packet of disgusting Salsa flavoured ultra processed things arrived. Rang operator again and then received a call back from Matthew. He advised Spices would open at 17.00. I advised the issue concerning intolerance to non plain food and asked for some bread, cheese, anything. Even a packet of plain Lays. He advised that they did not have a supply of plain provisions - even though the official government mantra is to stock up on supplies!!!! But not necessarily those peolpe like????? He stated as power was disrupted to kitchen there was no bread - imagine my surprise when one of the offerings at Spices 45 minutes later was 'cheese and ham on a not fresh baguette'. I explained to Matthew that it was totally unacceptable to expect anyone to wait 8 hours until Spices opened and then another potential hour to queue for food as happened after the previous day's announcement. As it transpired the queue waiting to enter Spices was very long when we left after 20 mins, then there was the queue inside waiting to get their food. He advised to arrive at 16.30. It was obviously no surprise that the main offering was Chinese!!! So a couple of ham and cheese slices of baguette, bit of salad - left the stone-cold chips - we left. We last ate a proper meal - except for the breakfast here on Sunday - on Thursday last week at home in the UK. A Virgin lounge breakfast and Virgin flight meal cannot in any way or description be classed as 'proper'. Other meals here have been 'buffet' and not of acceptable quality and variety - nor warm enough. Hope it improves. God help if it doesn't. Not the Sandals experience we are used to. Before booking saw a YouTube review that said some of the rooms near the main pool can be noisy so glad we chose the Italian Village. Until we tried to go to sleep with the abominable noise of the music from the bar until the early hours. Earplugs were a marvellous invention!!! So basically pay a fortune to be disturbed either during the day or during the night. Choice is yours.

Sandals Grenada

Princess61524 on Jul 01, 2024

The resort is beautiful, food was good. Our butler team "DVD team" were awesome, they made our 50th anniversary very special. With having been to Sandals 7 other times we thought other Sandal resorts had better entertainment. But that did not affect our trip, as they do have fun playmakers. Overall 5 star

Go to Jamaica instead of Grenada

Jimmy B on Jul 01, 2024

I will not be going back to Sandals in Grenada, ever. They could offer a free stay and I would pass on it. The resort: 3/5 The layout was okay, but be ready for some walking and that includes lots of inclines and stairs. I cannot comment on all of the rooms, but I can on the one I had. 1/5. The A/C was junk and leaked all the time. Maintenance could not fix it. This resort had a retirement community feel. A lot of travelers from overseas (not a complaint of that). The bars didn't stay open that late and there wasn't much of a late night scene. The restaurants: 2/5 We commonly encountered delays or missing food items from the menus. If you came as a group (8 for example) to Soy's, you weren't allowed to order. You get a sampler and that waitress would not allow for anything else. Butch's was similar to going to a local steakhouse in the US. Substandard. If you want a good steak at the resort, go to Spices and get the Blue Mountain Coffee-Dusted Strip Loin. The staff: 2/5 Before I start the negative, there were a few exceptional staff members. The photo staff are great. A couple of the bartenders were awesome. The waitstaff, not so much. I was very disappointed in the attitude of the staff here. Maybe my previous stays have set the bar to high? I learned that if you ask for something and they reply with: "I'll make a note". That means F**k you, don't care. We were met with what felt like hostility when we went to several of the restaurants. Lots of attitude and rudeness from the staff. The Island: 5/5 Beautiful and the locals were awesome. We went into town and had local cuisine and visited farms in the mountains. Look for Tom, he is the guide you want.
