Waterfront convenience, lots of food options

yamshu on May 22, 2026

I stayed 3 nights while in town to run the Blue Nose Marathon (1.7 km to the start and finish). My room on the 3rd floor had a small patio facing the Zen Garden, a communal terrace with some planters and chairs. The patio did have a privacy fence, but I was not comfortable leaving my curtains open when there were guests in the Zen Garden. Other than that, the room and bed were clean and comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure. I was disappointed that there was no way to keep the room fan on constant, as I like to use it for white noise at night, especially as there were multiple guests not bothering to speak quietly when in the hallway after 22:00, and occasional street noise from cars. The room doors unfortunately are very loud when they close, even if you try to shut them gently. Staff were all friendly and professional, and I did get a tasty meal from the Bistro. The lobby was spacious and open, with lots of seating and some interesting artifacts in display cases. I checked in on the later side in the evening, and at that time the parking garage was full, but the desk clerk advised me to park in the Salter Lot across the street — very easy to use the kiosk to pay (can also use parking app), though the overnight parking only went until 8:00 the next morning, so I had to make sure I was awake in time either to move the car or to pay for additional time. Street parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays, and it wasn't difficult to find a nearby spot at 8:00 on Saturday. Hotel's location near the waterfront is very convenient, with tons of restaurants and shops within a few blocks, as well as the Maritime Museum and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. The Citadel and Scotiabank Centre are also only a few blocks away. Keep in mind that staying near the waterfront means you have to walk uphill to everything that's not on the waterfront!

Horrible Horrible Experience

Connie L on Mar 30, 2026

Our group was belittled, demeaned and essentially harassed by the restaurant and front desk staff. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Do not book here if you are travelling with a group. They turned on and off the lights in the lobby while we were watching a hockey game repeatedly to tell us the lobby was closing at 10:30. They repeatedly came up to us to ask us if we had paid for parking - which we had. At 10 pm we moved to the restaurant area as they had indicated the lobby was closing. They sold us the last drink shortly after 11 pm. By 11:05 they turned off the lights and left us in pitch black. When I spoke to them to say they were required to give us a reasonable time to finish our last drink and that OHS standards required a certain lightening level they were beyond rude. We complained to the hotel manager in the morning who was very apologetic and said that should not have happened. Two days later while trying to order a bagel for my son they refused service to me. Two servers in the restaurant embarrassed and belittled me and several of the other parents in the dining room in front of other guests because they said we were disrespectful to them several evenings before. They then created a scene, calling me a lunatic and crazy. Their staff needs some serious customer service experience. The hotel manager was lovely and quite mortified by our experience. I have never in my life had such a negative experience and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Noisy stay with limited housekeeping

PaulD158 (Cornwall, Canada) on Jan 23, 2026

The good: Beds, location, overall comfort The not so good: housekeeping only provided every two days. Not informed at check in, told it was on their websiite, not there when I checked. Did not get housekeeping even on day 2, no reason given. The bad: renovations going on at brewery next door. Loud, noisy trucks starting at 6 am every day. Their windows provide NO soundproofing. Hear every voice that goes past your room from the driveway below.

Courtyard - A great location/place to stay

c0verdale (Riverview, Canada) on Nov 19, 2025

Great location near the waterfront, restaurants and many attractions in downtown Halifax. Stayed one night, the property and room are kept clean but the balcony left something to be desired. Overall a good place to stay in Halifax.

Delightful Stay!

RonR696 (Silver Spring, Maryland) on Oct 10, 2025

This Courtyard Marriott is older — but, clean, comfortable, and charming in its own way. The location is outstanding — only minutes by foot — from the waterfront and countless dining options. There is plenty of lobby seating, an excellent bistro and bar, and the hotel staff are exceptionally friendly. I would stay here again, for sure!!
