Great hotel, great service, great location.

Location is perfect. Front desk staff and Valet staff were extremely nice to deal with. The suite was perfect! A+ experience, will be back for sure. Short walk to waterfront, bars, craft breweries and fabulous restaurants. The harbour views from the room was beautiful.

Upgrade?...Not!

I prepaid for a King suite room; however, on check-in, they "upgraded" me to a Double Queen suite room.  I don't understand how this was considered an upgrade?  Second issue, I was told because the hotel was busy, the self parking option was not available ($25 per day) forcing me accept their valet parking option ($35 per day).  Literally, my car was parked at a lot directly across the street and the lot was empty. Quite disappointing customer service - dishonest tactics.

Had lovely birthday get away. Room was perfectly fine, enjoyed the parking, hot tub, restaurant and the many things of interest in the vacinity. But the icing on the cake was the staff we had the pleasure of dealing with. Professional, kind, and went over and above to make our visit special. Would happily recommend this place to anyone.

The Hollis--It Needs to Boast More than Location

This Hotel seems to enjoy a pretty fine rating, so I feel like I am swimming against the current on this one; however, I would like to relate our experience for those who do travel frequently and have come to appreciate a nice hotel. This particular hotel was recommended to me by a good friend who honestly believes it is great place to stay...my perception is not quite that complementary. The location is fantastic--though there are several other hotels in the area from which to choose--so location alone does not set this hotel apart. Here is our first-time experience at The Hollis: Arriving at the hotel by car, the first thing of note is that the hotel is on the corner of a busy narrow street with enough room for two cars to pull up in front of the hotel for check-in--that's it!! This is significant, because you may have to circle the block several times before actually being able to pull in to one of the 2 spots. Alternatively, you can go and park your car somewhere, but then have to get your luggage to the hotel. Once you enter the hotel, you can quickly see one of the reasons the same two cars are still in the two available spots in front of the hotel--they are still waiting to check in! There are two check-in stations inside the lobby-that's right, two. And the process is slow. This needs to be addressed because this is the first impression. As you check-in though, the staff are friendly and welcoming with warm cookies being offered--a nice touch. The elevator in the hotel is worth mentioning--is is seamless--quick and smooth! The decor reminds me of the old TV show, the jetsons. A futuristic cartoon about flying cars and automated "everything". The room we were in had plenty of space--a junior suite--but the furniture is older and showed its wear. Turning on the TV to check the hotel amenities, we found the TV did not work. The pool is small and the room containing it, not impressive. The hot tub area showed crack fill repairs left without being painted and the hot tub controls did not work well. Though a pretty basic thing to do--turning on the jets of a hot tub--this one required the individual to make a few attempts to get the jets to come on and stay on and the jets are weak. We only had breakfast at the Cannery restaurant and the best I can say is that it was OK. Halifax has too many fantastic restaurants from which to choose, right in the immediate area of the The Hollis, and I would respectfully suggest a foodie look elsewhere than the Cannery if food is important to you. Essentially, I think it is fair to say this hotel is a 3 out of 5, at best. But certainly others do seem to disagree. So either my expectations are too high or other folks truly believe this hotel is a 4 out of 5. In the end, we are all left to make our own decisions based on many considerations.

Worst stay at a Hilton EVER!

It was the worst experience at a Hilton we have ever had. Valet parking (which was the only real option) was an absolute nightmare! The wait to get our car from valet was at least 40mins. The other option was parking at a far away parking lot. Check-in staff was extremely rude and unhelpful. The room had a couch that was so filthy and stained, we had to put a sheet over it.
