Fantastic place to stay in Hawaii, for a couple days anyways...

SoutherncaliTrojan (Burbank, California) on Sep 17, 2021

We are a big Disney family so on our trip to Hawaii we really wanted to see Aulani. We weren't disappointed and the kids really loved the place as well! I definitely would rate the resort as a 5 star place, but with a caveat. Only issue I had is that it's a watered down Hawaiian experience. The place is gorgeous and the rooms are bigger than the Disney resorts we've visited before. Immaculately clean facilities, and the staff is great. The food is top quality and not all that expensive compared to most places in Hawaii, great cocktails as well. The kids are very picky eaters but they loved the food here, great selection for kids and adults alike. Shaved ice on point too ???? If you are a Disney fan and visiting Hawaii I'd say it's a must visit. The one little complaint I'd make is more up to preference than anything. The kids did pretty much everything the resort had to offer in a day, as far as the pools and beach. The snorkeling in their private salt water pool looked really fun and so did the Luau (we didn't have time to do either tbh). I don't think you'd need to stay longer than a few days to see everything here. We only stayed a night but the kids were content that they'd seen everything by the time we left. For me it kinda takes the fun away from exploring the island. We were looking for more of an adventure than just relaxing at a resort, and if we'd stayed longer than a couple days we'd have spent the rest of the time outside the resort adventuring on the island. Some people prefer just laying by the pool tho so if that's your thing, Aulani is excellent at providing you with that environment ????

Aulani, still good despite COVID

Chip144 (Gilroy, California) on Sep 13, 2021

The travel industry has been hit hard recently and probably none harder than Hawaii. This was my 4th visit to Aulani, in the last 5 years, and the only reason that it doesn’t have a 5 rating is because the COVID-19 has required mitigation measures that closed some of the amenities. Besides that we had a great time with a group of 9 in a 2 bedroom and a studio. All staff were very nice and kind. Also, as a DVC member, this has been one of our favorite spots in the array of choices. The real disappointment came when we discovered that the Ama Ama was closed. I hope this pandemic ends soon so to restore full operation to the Aulani as well as other hotels.

August trip report

amyjay2021 (Naples, Florida) on Sep 13, 2021

Our group (5 adults, ages 34 to 66) spent 4 nights Aug 28-Sept 1 and the overall consensus is a solid 4 stars. We felt we got a good value using DVC points versus paying $ for the room. Highly recommend the luau which had pretty good food and exceptional entertainment. Also, each group sat at their own table. We rented the executive lanai for one day at $350. This was an excellent base for our pool/beach resort day. The service was quite slow (the lady was incredibly nice but she had the entire pool area) so bring your own snacks and drinks. The reef onsite had plenty of beautiful fish but like people have mentioned before, it is very cold. We loved the pools, adult hot tub, slides, and lazy river. The two disappointments with Aulani were the food (we all thought the food at Makahiki was pretty bad, however the acai bowl at the café was delicious) and how dark our two-bedroom ocean-view villa was. We liked that Aulani's location on Oahu was peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu.

Paradise For Children

gailb112 (Monterey, California) on Sep 12, 2021

The experience of our group of 10 - including 2 families with children ages 3,4,5,6 and grandparents - could not have been nicer. Perfect for the children and plenty for adults to like. The water experiences were many, with easy access to the beach and quality restaurants both at the resort and nearby resorts. The villa room was perfect for 10. We also included 1/2 day activities outside of the resort on 3 of our 7 days. It would have been nice to see a few Disney characters in other areas of the resort besides "The Lawn", however.

Great experience….but utterly poor room cleanliness

ninja1111 (Monterey, California) on Sep 12, 2021

I am a huge Disney fan, so it breaks my heart to leave this review. The primary reason I’ve rated Aulani 2 starts is due to the cleanliness of our room. Here are the issues we found: 1) Upon arrival, we noticed that there was a lot of dirt and debris underneath the beds where luggage is stored. It was disgusting and clearly had not been vacuumed. 2) The patio furniture was filthy - there was bird poop on the chairs and the table that looked like it had not been cleaned for a long time. 3) This one is disgusting - there was a live cockroach in the bathroom. It was huge! I have never experienced this EVER in my life. I’ve never stayed in a hotel room with a cockroach. Foe it to happen on a Disney hotel that’s about $750/night is ridiculous! I was so disappointed. Having said this, the food was amazing - every single food venue was top notch. The pools and public areas were super clean. The entertainment and activities were all quite amazing. Disney really has to step up their room cleanliness game. I know they don’t provide room cleaning daily due to COVID - but this level of negligence is so unbecoming of the brand.
