Enjoyable stay

Really enjoyed our stay at Aulani. comfortable room, great lobby. Oleo room was great. Character breakfast was good although expensive for what you get and minimal character interactions. Pool temperature was too cold though particularly lazy river which dampened the experience when you consider the price point. We own a pool and this was simply not heated at all. Make sure you go to Monkeypod which was lovely, particularly for Happy Hour.

Wonderful first trip to Hawaii

We are DVC members and decided to use our points to stay in a 2BR ocean front villa at Aulani. This was our first stay here and our first visit to Hawaii. We don’t have anything to compare this stay to since we haven’t been before but we thought it was really beautiful. We liked that it was really laid back. We really liked the understated Disney touches. Our daughter is now 20 so we weren’t concerned with the characters. The villa was a great layout, with plenty of space for all of us. We were on the 6th floor of Ewa tower with a partially obstructed view (palm trees blocking our view). Now we know to request a higher floor. The lagoon is nice and we had no trouble finding beach chairs. It was nice to be able to go back and forth from the beach to the pool. The pool is really busy, and chairs are literally on top of each other. It’s a good idea to get down there early to grab a spot. The lazy river was fun too. The pool area is the one spot that always felt hectic. This is where the younger kids are going to be acting like kids. My daughter wished for an adult only area. The adult hot tub was usually pretty full. As far as dining, we really enjoyed Ama Ama. Makahiki was pretty good too. We also had a good lunch at Off the Hook. There's a small plaza across the street with a small market as well as a coffee shop. This is where Monkeypod is. We had a good dinner there too. Of course food everywhere in Oahu is expensive so be prepared. We really enjoyed the evening storytelling at the fire pit. Too bad the fire pit wasn’t cooperating and couldn’t be used. The story’s by Uncle Ito more than made up for it though. He was awesome. We absolutely loved our stay at Aulani. The people were very nice, we felt the aloha spirit. The resort was mostly well maintained. Our rooms were clean and housekeeping was very prompt in delivering a requested item. We are already planning to use our points to return.

Great stay at Aulani

We are DVC members and decided to use our points to stay in a 2BR ocean front villa at Aulani. We were a party of 7- myself, husband, brother, sister-in-law and our 3 daughters in their 20's. The villa was a great layout, with plenty of space for all of us. We were on the 14th floor of Ewa tower with an unobstructed view (lower floors can have palm trees blocking their view). Aulani is a very large hotel, located on a man made lagoon along the west coast, and shares a small beach with the Four Seasons. While the lagoon is nice, it does get very busy. A nice option for families with small children. We loved the location! It was far enough away from the busy Waikiki/Honolulu area, but super easy to get on/off the highway, so we hit the road most days to explore the beaches and towns around the island, plus there's a Costco close by for gas refuels. You need a rental car if you want to explore! I recommend! The pool is really busy, and chairs are literally on top of each other. We didn't spend much time there, a lazy river and slide ride, and a quick dip in the infinity pool. I'm hoping they add an adults only pool back to the resort, it would be nice for families traveling with adult children. As far as dining, we usually dined outside of Aulani. There's a great little area across the street, there's a small market as well as a few dining and coffee options. We loved Monkepod, and ate there a few times, also loved Eggs'n Things for breakfast. Overall we absolutely loved our stay at Aulani. Everyone was kind and welcoming, the resort is well maintained, rooms were clean and housekeeping was very prompt in delivering necessities. A fabulous location...we hope to visit again.

Hoped to Love it

We saved for 3 years to return to Aulani because our family loved it so much. Unfortunately all of the cost saving changes have really put a bad taste in our mouth. They got rid of the buffet breakfast and dinner, Aunty's now has a limit to an hour and a half (not leaving much time for a date with my husband), and the lazy river was so incredibly cold. We complained a few times and they said it was just colder at that time of year. We finally got an answer from a pool lead that the heater was broken and Aulani therefore removed all signage of the pool temperatures so that people would not know. They had no idea how long it would be broken for. Spending $1200 a night to have the resort lie about their issues is awful. Disney should be ashamed of themselves.

A true gem

Sarah F (Seattle) on Jan 20, 2023

Pros: Location, beach, Hawaiian resort with Disney flare Cons: Parking fees, pool chairs can be sparse at certain times of the day, very slipper pool stone After reading less than stellar reviews I was a little apprehensive but our stay was practically perfect. We had a ground level corner room - and it was perfect. We were 30 seconds from the pool, Auntys, Hook and a 2 min walk to the beach. The resort is truly beautiful, pictures don't do it justice. The beach is lovely and perfect for kids. I am a beach snob...and this one is very nice. We never had a problem finding beach chairs and umbrellas. Beach toys and boogie boards are available to check out for free. Drink servers will take your order There are many different pools and a floating river. Yes, the floating river is a little chilly but you get use to it quickly. The tunnel slide is impressive - very dark and twisty. The tube slide is a lot of fun. Yes, it can be difficult to find pool chairs but if you keep walking around 1 or 2 will eventually open up. The characters are so interactive here! My biggest complaint - the stone around the pools is very slick. It seems an odd choice for a resort that caters to small children but bring water shoes, don't run and it should be fine. Enjoy this gem of a resort
