Check out disappointment

Will begin with the positive , our 8th time to Huatulco and 4th at Park Royal. Has been our go to for last several years. Great staff , clean spacious rooms , great pool area, food is perfectly fine with lots of choice and appreciate the authentic local Mexican cuisine. Really like the sea view rooms on Level 8, 9 & 10 and enjoy the daily walking and exercise of going from rooms to restaurant etc Have had zero issues at all until check out this week. As we were checking out we were told we damaged the in room fridge and would have to pay for it.?? Understandably we were a bit confused and indicated we had not done any damage to the fridge . We were then told that the glass shelf ( you know the slide out shelf) in the fridge was damaged? We clearly articulated ( the best we could ) that no ,we had removed the glass shelf on our first day so that we fit our large bottles of water and soda we purchased at the shop into the fridge and we had slid the shelf back into the original spot before departure from the room. And that there are no issues with fridge shelf. A gentleman then came from the back and showed us a picture he had on his phone ,looked by the picture to be less than inch of the plastic rim that had been broken away from the glass frame. ( look in your fridge you”ll know what I mean) No damage to the glass ,no issue with the integrity of the shelf . I assured we did not damage the plastic rim and we returned the shelf into the fridge and there are no issues ,the shelf fits back into the spot as usual. He wouldn’t hear anything we had to say and said we check it “every day “and it wasn’t broke before you went into the room. Needless to say , Im highly doubtful that the fridge shelves are pulled out of the fridge and checked to see if the plastic rims are damaged daily ,or for that matter, ever. I once again indicated we did nothing except remove and replace the shelf from the fridge and absolutely did not cause “ damage” to the plastic frame of the fridge shelf ,but to no avail ,the one man jury and judge found us guilty as charged and the fine was an arbitrary sum of 500 Pesos ….. At home I can assure you I would not have paid a single cent as we did not cause the damage, but recognizing the power imbalance and the arbitrary and capricious ruling of the man with the picture we weren’t left with much choice but to pay for the “plastic rim damage “to the fridge shelf. Needless to say our “ go to “ resort has unfortunately left us a a tad disappointed to say the least. I would not have expected this from such a reputable establishment. And It’s really quite sad that after four years of loyal customer service and countless recommendation's that we have made to friends and family to PR is overshadowed by this needless allegation and money grab.

Great time at Park Royal, made better by meeting new friends!

Spent March 5-12 2026 at the Park Royal and have ZERO complaints. Front desk staff was always friendly and accommodating. Food is not Michelin Star quality but everything I ate was fine at the buffet. They were quick to replace empty trays and wait staff was awesome. Yes, if you have mobility issues or don’t like to walk it can be problematic but the shuttles were always quick to arrive. Drinks were fine with minimal wait time, rooms were clean, and the resort itself appears well cared for. Would return without hesitation.
Great until checkout

The rooms are great. Staff are friendly. Food is ok. Lots of stairs but that was fine by us. Before the checkout experience we definitely would have been back (probably annually) however, that changed. We checked out at noon and they cut off the wristbands. At that point, we had no access to any services. Not even a cup of coffee. At other all inclusive we have been to - you check out of your room, they put your bags in the secure bellman room and you continue to have access to the resort until your shuttle to take you to the airport. It was a long 4 hour wait for a shuttle. Too bad. Will definitely be back to Huatulco but this resort is off the table.
Fantastic Staff, Disappointing Food, and a Lot of Walking

Our stay at Park Royal Beach Huatulco was a pretty mixed experience. The biggest positive was the staff. Everyone we dealt with was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and they really do try their best to make guests feel welcome. That said, there are some major drawbacks. The resort is built on a hillside, and getting between buildings involves long and sometimes steep walks. If you have mobility issues, this resort will likely be difficult to navigate. Another inconvenience is that the main buffet isn’t located on the same area as many of the rooms. You either have to take about a 10-minute walk or wait for the shuttle, which can be a hassle when you’re just trying to grab a meal. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the food. The buffet was mediocre at best — often cold and fairly bland. Many dishes tended to taste very similar, so despite the number of options there wasn’t much real variety. The Italian restaurant was particularly underwhelming, with cold food and most dishes covered in the same red sauce. The meal schedule didn’t help either. Lunch at the buffet doesn’t start until 1:30 PM, and dinner doesn’t begin until 7:00 PM, meaning you often end up waiting quite a while for food that isn’t particularly good. In the end, while the staff were excellent, the food and layout of the resort would make it hard for me to return. It would have to be an exceptionally good deal, and even then I’d plan on eating at restaurants in Huatulco and paying out of pocket rather than relying on the resort dining.
