Some things loved some not so much

Monika M on Apr 18, 2026

I think the biggest downfall is that this is on Tangolunda Bay and the beach here isn't great for swimming. If i am already paying to stay at an all inclusive resort, I do not want to have to venture off property to skip lunch to go to a better beach and lose out on hotel inclusions simply because the beach here isn't nice/ safe for swimming. Pool on 7th floor is way too hot. Bathtub hot.... Al entertainment and things are only done in Spanish. I realize mostly Mexican tourists but we were some English only speaking people there and would have been easier if more employees can speak some english. Rooms are wonderful. Big, clean, lots of closet space. Was tiring trying to get a around such a large resort. Thankfully was not busy and waiting for a trolly was not too bad. In high season i see this being a nightmare to get on. I met one person from entertainment and he seemed nice and welcoming to invite to their show. Some other staff from reception and buffet dining area looked moody often. The food had me sick most of the week living on immodium to function. Overall i would not return to this resort because it is annoyingly too big to get around. You rely on trolly to get everywhere. And it's not located on a nice beach.

An honest review by Barry Chris mas.

This was our third visit to this rustic, clean, well serviced and tourist friendly hotel in 18 months. Needless to say our experience was just as warm and welcoming from all the hardworking staff as it was the first two times we were there. Keeping in mind that this is budget hotel, one must realize that patience is a virtue and sometimes it is necessary to wait a bit for good service. Which brings me to one pleasant experience, of many, that I feel I should share. My wife can be somewhat of a picky eater so while lounging by the lower pool will on occasion walk into the buffet area at lunch to see what is on display. At the salad bar she came across a wonderful looking shrimp and seafood creviche and quickly returned to me to escort me over to lunch. Unfortunately, at the time, I was involved in a poolside activity and by the time we returned to the buffet the dish was depleted and replaced with a tasty looking octopus salad. I walked to the kitchen and in my best Spanish asked the cook if they had perhaps some of the shrimp dish left. Unfortunately her answer was no and her apology to me was heartfelt. I smiled and walked away. My wife did find something else to munch on but pretty much blamed me for not arriving sooner. Little did I know that we were being watched by the cook and her captain. Within a few minutes of being seated, without asking, the smiling server brought over a plate of perfectly cooked, well seasoned Jumbo Shrimp and placed them in front her. To this day she still talks about how good they were and the service she received. And yes. I did tip the cook, the server, and the captain. This is just one story of many good ones that we experienced at Park Royal Huatulco. Will be returning in December.

We had an amazing time here at Park Royal. There are two restaurants that I would recommend, the Italian and the Mexican. The buffet wasn’t great but the restaurants were. The service was fantastic. Aldair was an excellent bartender very kind and super friendly with good English skills. We loved the quiet peaceful atmosphere of the resort and will definitely return in the future.

Friends Vacation

April T on Apr 09, 2026

Pros * The resort is small and intimate which meant the pools, beach, buffet, and à la cartes never felt crowded.? No waiting. Ever. Chairs? Available. Tables? Ready. Stress? None. * The resort was very clean always appreciated. * Shuttles ran constantly. The resort is built on a hill, so everything is either up or down (leg day, vacation edition), but the shuttle waits were never more than a few minutes. * Although not beachfront from the lobby, it was less than a 5-minute walk on flat ground easy peasy. * The pools were the perfect temperature, even though I don’t believe heated, they were the perfect temperature! Never cold. * No food complaints whatsoever. Everything we had was good, and sometimes great. The Cons * Most of the entertainment was in Spanish. This may be seasonal, as many Mexican families vacation during this time. * I wouldn’t recommend this resort for anyone who doesn’t enjoy walking or has mobility issues. While there weren’t excessive stairs, the inclines and declines can be steep in places. This didn’t bother me at all but it’s worth noting. * Currency matters. Pesos are preferred, and many places won’t accept anything else. If they do accept foreign bills, they must be in pristine condition no folds, no marks, basically untouched by human hands. ?If you’re looking for ultra luxury and fancy, this particular resort may not be your style, but I’m completely okay with simple.

Vacation with Friends

Smaller resort and less busy made this vacation enjoyable. Language barrier with a large percentage of staff but was manageable. Food was more authentic and always found something I liked.
