Not what we expected

Positives: The rooms are nice, large and clean, and the beds are comfortable. There are shops, restaurants, tour providers, stores and a sports bar located right down the street. The weather is amazing. Things you should consider: The hotel is NOT on the beach. You need to leave the resort, cross a busy street and then follow the road down to the beach club. We spoke with many people who fell walking up to the hotel on the crumbling sidewalk. The road and sidewalk used to get to the beach are not well maintained (these are off the resort). The property does not feel like an all inclusive resort; it feels like a hotel on a hill. The staff want everyone to take the shuttles, which are not convenient. We like to walk, which is doable once you find your way around, but most of the time you are walking on the road where the shuttles drive. The only common area is the beach club which is a long(ish) walk from the rooms. There isn't anything to do except go in the pool or ocean there (i.e., no pool tables, ping pong tables, basketball, activities, etc.). There is one buffet, which is also at the beach club. While we were there the food was not well covered and flies and such were able to land on the food. The evening entertainment is in the same room as the buffet tables. Very loud and busy. Overall, we did not enjoy our time at the Park Royal. My advice: If you want a hotel with a nice room, and plan to be off the resort on tours, eating out, seeing the sights, etc., this may be a good option. If you want a resort to hang out and relax at, you should consider a different option.
Good and not so good

Plumbing was an issue with non-functional public toilets, and low water pressure in rooms where the water never got hot, only warm. Lots of fresh fruit at the buffet, which we loved. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful, many only spoke Spanish. Entertainment was good, the aquasize class fun, and the public beach nice except for the constant flow of vendors trying to sell everything from jewelry and massage to clothing, hair braiding, and excursions. We had a big, private terrace but they only provided a hard bistro set to sit on - other terraces had lounge chairs so we mostly used the ones on the beach (which needed cushions - they were too hard for older bodies).
Humble all inclusive

Personnel is attentive looking to satisfy your family needs. Beach and pool areas are clean and there seems to be always beds available for sun tanning. Meals in buffet restaurant are tasty with good flavor, in case you want something custom there is a short line at the eggs station with several options in protein and veggies. Drinks at the bar takes no more than two minutes in case there is a lane. We were not able to try the specialty restaurants since you have to go the hotel reception to book your place and they get full quite fast.
Clogged toilets, no food

This was the worst all inclusive experience I had. The laundry list of problems is big, starting with lack of food, big commute to the beach, clogged toilets, no cooperation from the staff, poor drink quality, special restaurant booking runs out after 3 people in the queue, and so on .........
Great hotel if it weren’t all inclusive

Love Huatulco. Loved Park Royal except not set up to be an all inclusive. Spent many meals offsite to get variety and avoid the terrible buffet.
