Pleasantly surprised. The property is very clean and staff are working hard to provide you with excellent service. The hotel is built on the hillside and offers stunning views of the bay. The hotel has three pools with drink service, and a beach side restaurant buffet. Onsite spa, tennis and pickleball courts and free parking. Large rooms. Ocean front beach access. Stunning views offered at the outdoor roof top patio. Their is a beautiful breakfast offered in building seven with a tasty menu overlooking the bay. A gift shop and nightly entertainment.

Very nice vacation - Loved it!

Stayed at Park Royal Beach Resort in Huatulco from Feb 4th till 11th, traveling with Air Canada Rouge. Located about 20 minutes from the airport. READ about the Timeshare push from "Royal Holiday" at the end. THIS IS IMPORTANT! The transfer to the resort was comfortable and fast. There were 6 of us in the mini-bus. Check-in relatively fast, most of the front desk personnel can communicate in English. I did read the reviews, so I was ready for the shortcomings that others spoke about. But WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PLACE. Spotlessly clean, everywhere. From the rooms, to the hallways, to the grounds, not a single place where there was anything out of place, or damaged, or dirty. WiFi available throughout the resort (both on the mountain and at the beach); everyone uses WhatsApp to communicate; and you can freely use Google Translate if needed. I really didn't see an issue with most of the staff not understanding English. About 90% of the Guests were local to Mexico; and we LOVED that too. Great conversations during transfers to the beach and back. Very friendly people, interested in our Canadian life, and eager to share their stories with us. ALL personally at the resort, no matter where you went, were smiling; everyone seamed to be happy to be there, friendly, eager to help or assist you if needed. (absolutely unexpected, since we've been used to Cuban eye rolling for the last several years). Uphill Resort - this was fun too; yes, we were huffing and puffing the first couple of days, but I wanted this workout for me, since I sit at a computer all day. Scenery and views are breathtaking and the "trip" form the room on 5th level down to the beach was usually about 7 minutes. No, we did not had to wait for the transfers; they were going back and forth all the time. IF there wasn't one waiting we would walk, as this was also something unusual for us and we never seen this as a problem or an issue. The distance from the resort to the beach was maybe 500m. Beach towels were always available (everything is very well organized), and so were the beach and pool chairs (never needed to "reserve" anything). There was always empty chairs whenever we got there. Beach bar guys were VERY attentive and we never waited long for our drinks. Beach vendors are there, but not very pushy; some are just eager for a conversation in English. Weather was absolutely perfect; just over 30 C and dry! Loved it! FOOD... didn't get a chance to go to the ala carte restaurants (you need to be in the lobby at 10am sharp to get a chance to be on the list); Breakfasts at the upper pool restaurant were amazing; so where the ones at the beach buffet. Lunches and dinners were not so great, but we always had plenty to eat. We could have used a bit more variety, as you could exactly predict what will be served the next day, but again, we were never hungry. Having said that, we spoke to several people that have stayed at the Dreams or the Barcelo and Las Brisas - ALL have mentioned that the food was just mediocre (however they have spend much more on their vacation). Our theory is that Guests are "encouraged" by the not so great selections at the resorts, to go into town and eat at the restaurants there. Maybe to boost the economy back up after the big C. Trip to La Crucecita is 60 MXN and about 10 min. Overall, we REALLY LOVED our stay there, and we will be going back for sure. BE AWARE that there is a TIME-SHARE company set up immediately outside the airport, before you can get to the Air Canada rep that will be waiting to collect you to go to the resort. Walk right by those people, they will waste your time and promise you a "20 min presentation" (to harass you about a purchase of a timeshare at Dreams or other local resorts). We spoke to Christopher, who chose to lie to us through his teeth, repeatedly, 4 or 5 times in a span of about 7 minutes! A brain pause on my part, as our pilots attempted to land 3 times and we were all a bit frazzled after collecting our luggage and anxious to get to where we were going. I was up at 2am and by the time we finally landed in Mexico, apparently didn't think straight. I actually thought that this Christopher was the AC rep. Anyway, it was in fact our lovely Air Canada rep, lady by the name of Paval that told us that those "presentations are at least 90 min long" and quite pushy. AVOID.
