First: the grounds are gorgeous. The building is clean and well-maintained, and the beach club is very pretty and on an uncrowded beach. Rooms are cramped but pleasant and very clean.
But an "all-inclusive" resort should make you feel at ease amongst its abundance. And Posada Real utterly fails at this, introducing scarcity to make routine tasks stressful.
The food: it's Ok quality. I'm not picky but it's tasty and appropriately Mexican. The drinks taste good. But there's a complex schedule of what food and drinks are available where, and we had a way of always finding ourselves in the wrong place for what we wanted, and in some cases with no food at all. For example, at 5:30pm no food can be had at the beach club!
There are three bars at the hotel but at most one is open at any time. Inevitably, there are long lines for food and drink and that serves to ration your access.
Towels: there is a towel accounting system. But to get and return towels you're often using the front desk, which is understaffed and usually dealing with a complicated check-in. At the beach club towel people disappear at inopportune times. Again, long lines for a very simple task.
Shade: In the middle of the day there is no shade to be had at any of the pools or on the beach. At the beach club, there are some umbrellas but those are claimed early. I learned to show up a couple of hours before my family to await an umbrella to be free. Staff said there were no extras. Just buying 10 or so more umbrellas would greatly improve the experience. Or just build some shade!
Internet: It's 2022 and wifi doesn't work in the rooms at all. In the lobbies, it works maybe 60% of the time. Staff were indifferent to my complaints. Bandwidth is terrible: to download a movie for the plane took a couple of hours sitting in the lobby.
Is a great hotel, BUT MASK OVERKILL.
Apr 21, 2022
First I want to say we did have an enjoyable time here except for one thing, mask overkill.
In an open air lobby area they were requiring face masks, in the beach club to walk in in the open air area, mask required. It is well past time to do away with these especially in the heat and humidity there and this is the only reason for my 2 star review which would have otherwise been a 5.
Am planning on another trip to PE but if this hotel is still mask required everywhere will not be staying there again.
Coco beach club at Hotel Posada Real in Puerto Escondido, playa Bacocho.

Just to enter the beach club you have to disburse 1000 pesos for each adult or either 850 pesos for any sixth year or older than that.
There is no waiter service, you have to get up and go to the bar to order, neither food service around the pool or beach area., be prepared to walk a lot!
They serve no can drinks, neither any kink of fruit drink! You can get agua de sandia, de melon or any other kind of fruit at the club next door ( Villasol), but not here… noting fresh here!
Calling my margarita a “margarita” was really an insult! Undrinkable!
Wants to eat? You need to go to restaurant between 2pm and 6pm for buffet. Other than that they only serve snacks and … you need to walk, there is no waiter table service.
Everything from soda to juice is served from 2 liter soda jugs, no fresh fruit, no fresh veggies, very poor service, very expensive for the quality served.
Go next door to Villasol and save yourself from a disappointing day, it is much cheaper, service is much better… and food selection too!
Just forgot to mention the bathooms!
Pictures taken at 1.30pm, good luck!!!!!!!
Food not up to standard
Nov 04, 2021
We’ve been coming to the hotel for many years, this time felt different. The food wasn’t great on any day - bland, repetitive and lacked any real thought. I wonder if the Head Chef has left, we all noticed the taste and Food ideas were not up to the normal standard.
In terms of snacks, we ordered a hot dog at 4:30 and by 5:10 nothing had arrived despite we asking both waiters. In the end, Franciso fixed the issue.
Overall not a great or bad experience just ok.
Quick 3-day stay in Puerto Escondido
(Union City, California)

Posada Real Puerto Escondido was a good choice during our stay on the Oaxacan coast. The hotel is well situated in the quiet neighborhood of Rinconado, a short walk (or a very cheap taxi ride) to the famous Playa Carrizalillo. For the price, the hotel affords you a free delicious breakfast buffet that changes its menu every morning, plus all-you-can-drink beverages day and night (you name it, they have it). The rooms are a nice size, and we got to secure a corner room with a view of the ocean. The rooms are well sanitized and refreshed every day.
The hotel boasts 2 sets of pools: one by the lobby, and one by the beach which is about a 5-7 minute walk down. Beach-side cottages also offer the comfort of lounging next to the waves (although the water may not be recommended for swimming due to the huge waves). Right next door is Playa Bacocho, where every afternoon at 5pm the conservation group Vive Mar helps release baby turtles by the beach (and you can participate in it for only a mere 100 pesos).
Trips to other parts of Puerto Escondido are a short taxi ride away, and the front desk is always helpful to get you a taxi right away.
WiFi especially in the room proved to be a huge challenge though. We attempted to connect to the network ao many times, but to no avail, so when we didn’t feel like usinf our own mobile network’s data service, we just went to the lobby area and used the lobby’s WiFi.
All in all, I think Posada Real gives one a really good bang for their buck. For the amenities offered, it did make our stay somewhat worthwhile.
