Disappointing Stay - Defintley Didn't Feel Like Resort Quality

sharonb20222 (Chicago, Illinois) on Aug 21, 2026

Traveling to Las Vegas with my daughter, we had countless hotels to choose from and ultimately selected New York-New York. Unfortunately, I was very underwhelmed with our experience and left feeling that we simply did not get the value we paid for. It started with the $45-per-day resort fee, which I apparently missed when booking. While I understand that resort fees are common in Las Vegas, I still struggle to understand what exactly we received in exchange for it. Nearly the entire property, including the restaurants, casino, and entertainment areas, is open to the general public. The primary guest-only amenities appear to be the pool and fitness center—amenities you can find at many standard hotels without an additional daily “resort” charge. There was nothing about our experience that felt particularly exclusive or resort-like. The room itself was even more disappointing. A refrigerator had clearly once been installed but had been removed, leaving an empty cabinet behind. With outdoor temperatures exceeding 107 degrees during our stay, we couldn’t even keep the $7 bottles of water we purchased cold. There were also supposed to be three dresser drawers, yet the top drawer had apparently been removed as well. Again, we were simply left with an empty space where it used to be. The television did not work for the first two days. I eventually went behind it myself and discovered that the HDMI cable had been disconnected. While I don’t necessarily fault the hotel for that, it added another layer of frustration to an already disappointing room. Most concerning was one of the two queen beds. One side of the mattress was so badly sunken that sleeping near the nightstand literally felt as though you were going to roll off the bed. Whether the mattress was damaged or simply well beyond the point when it should have been replaced, it was not what I would expect from a Las Vegas resort charging these rates and additional resort fees. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay. With so many hotels and resorts to choose from in Las Vegas, I expected much more from New York-New York. Removing basic conveniences such as a refrigerator and even a dresser drawer, while charging guests a daily resort fee, simply does not feel like resort-quality accommodations. Unfortunately, we left feeling that we did not get our money’s worth, and I would choose a different property on our next trip to Las Vegas.
