Another wonderful stay at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan

ramirocarlosr on Sep 10, 2023

Just a quick note. Every stay this hotel and staff exceed my expectations. The pools, spas and restaurants are fantastic and this property has the best beach in Mazatlan. Our room had a fantastic view of the beach and malecon. I can't wait to return in September.

Has So Much Potential

TipsyKitty (Oklahoma) on Aug 30, 2023

Spent last week here with our grown children and had a nice time, but could have been better. Our flight got us there at 1pm and check in is 3pm. They checked us in, and gave us temporary wrist bands. We were told our room was ready but couldn’t access it until 3 so to come back and they change our hands and give us room keys. Neither of the other 2 rooms were ready, but they also got the temporary bands to be able to walk around the resort. I asked about getting drinks or even water and front desk said “you’ll have to pay for it, even water”. We travel often and are accustomed to being greeted with a drink and cold wash towels. We did find water at a bar and cups to put it in. (It was very hot as you can imagine in August) Second, they bring large travel buses on Sundays and Thursdays full of people to fill the resort. If you’re good with large crowds, it’s no big deal, but it’s a large resort and it stayed very crowded. The ADULT only signs mean nothing! We had children getting drinks from the swim up bar. Swimming in the grotto and in the hot tub. There was one life guard that tried to keep them out but they snuck in anyways. I love children but getting a water gun sprayed directly in your ear gets old! So we got ran out of there often. Location is fantastic and all the employees were very nice! The Mexican restaurant on the resort is delicious!! Loved having Panama 3 blocks away, because breakfast on the buffet was not our thing! Beautiful resort, just tweak it a bit and we would have loved it!

Great place.

This was a great place to stay. We did an all inclusive trip and every restuarant we tried was delicious. The staff were so friendly especially the servers Victor, Ivan, Andres, Martin, and the Captian Christopher.

Very family friendly, but loud beaches!

eileenhoy (Canmore, Canada) on Apr 22, 2023

Very much a family resort. There were children of all ages, and this is not a party spot. We brought our 9 month old twins, and the atmosphere was perfect. The only thing I would not recommend if you have young babies is upgrading to an ocean view room! The bands on the beach play all afternoon until sunset, and at times there was probably 8-10 of them playing their trumpets and tubas with loudspeakers full volume. Thank goodness our babies could sleep through it. I could not. The buffet also opens later for dinner (6:30), so we had to eat separate after our girls were in bed. Not a big deal, as everything else at this resort was amazing. Lots of activities for kids, one loud pool, lots of quiet ones, and one adults only hot tub overlooking the ocean. The food was spectacular, and the staff were all amazing! No extras in the rooms, and no fridges.

Mexican Resort for locals

Peter S on Apr 19, 2023

If you're from Mexico, you'll love this resort.. the food is geared towards you, but if Mexican food is not your thing, sorry you're out of luck. The beach is nice, the view is great but if you're looking to relax, forget it. Bands are continuously playing. Not just one but 2 or 3 side by side from noon till midnight. Oh, BTW, no loungers available. Just plastic Muskoka like chairs. The resort is old, built in the 1950s but upgraded a while ago and clean. If you speak Spanish, you're in, but if you don't, you may have great difficulty communicating with just about any/all staff. There are pools, but they're crowded, and seating is very limited, so the early bird.... As in most areas, vendors are everywhere. If you're looking for souvenirs, make sure you bargain. They expect it, and you'll have fun when you get your treasures at half asking price. Although the resort is rated 4 to 4.5 starts, it's more like a 3 (similar to Cuban 4, 4.5). The reviews mostly come from the local Mexican resort guests. Finally, most of the guests from Mexico go for 3 or 4 day stays so lots of turn over. Hope this helps.
