This was my 7th trip to Couples Negril. I have loved visiting this resort and have great memories. Years past food and service was excellent. The last visit, which was 2 years ago before COVID, it had started to take a turn for the worse with the new management. This last trip, September 6-11, 2021, was worse than the last trip. Food from restaurants ordered off of the menu was served cold. Each restaurant was this way. Food service was very slow. Had to ask for a drink several times. The last night we were there, it was lobster night. The grilled lobster was overcooked. It was like chewing rubber. Also, cold. The people were apologetic, but should never have been served this way. Night before, same thing, food was cold. The au gratin potatos were so cold, tasted like it came straight out of the freezer. So disappointed with this trip and I love Jamaica so much. If I come back, will probably choose a different resort. I do hope things change for the better. I know COVID has played a factor on alot of things, but serving cold food isn't acceptable. Hope you can correct your errors.
Excellent resort for couples

This is a smaller resort with outstanding food, service and accommodations. Our trip has exceeded expectations in many areas. Especially notable is the evening entertainment, much better than we have experienced in other resorts. Equally superb is the scuba diving led by highly personable and competent staff. They really go out of the way to make the diving interesting and fun, as well as safe. Covid protocols well followed, housekeeping is excellent. Resorts is very clean. Great beach.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Wonderful staff, great room, unbelievable beach.
Try the Jamaican food on offer, I had never tried before but the jerk chicken, beef patties, curried goat, chicken and pineapple salad and banana bread was to die for.
Excellent free trips including catamaran cruise and swimming in caves with bats.
Sandy white beach, no seaweed and beautiful turquoise water.
Avoid aerobics instructor on beach - not affiliated to hotel (her name was Lynn) appalling standard of teaching and poor attitude.
Come here and you won’t be disappointed ??
A solid 4 out of 5 for our honeymoon!

First impressions aren’t good but it gets better.
As you drive into Couples Negril, it looks like the walls are about to fall down and the paint needs topping up. From the outside, I thought the hotel looked old and run down compared to some of the others that we drove past.
When we got to our room, the fridge had no drinks in it at all and as it was our honeymoon we both thought that maybe there would be a bottle of champagne or something like that waiting for us but there wasn’t. However, the following day the fridge was filled and they kindly surprised us with a complimentary 25 minute couples massage which we didn’t expect! This was lovely.
overall we thoroughly enjoyed the food. Everything we had was delicious and we came away impressed and very satisfied.
It would have been better if there were some more Traditional Jamaican dishes to try. On Mondays, only 1 restaurant is open to guests unless you’re a returning guest. The only restaurant open is the buffet restaurant which is never a nice meal as you spend more time choosing your food than eating and talking with your partner.
Communication on which restaurants are open when could be better, it seems there’s not much consistency here.
A big shout out to Antoinette in Helaconia and Samantha in Lychee. Both these ladies are so kind and get to know the guests well. There always smiling and laughing.
Most of the staff are really nice, it’s quite a small resort so you often see the same faces around and the majority are ace.
The only negative we found is that you could ask the same question to 3 members of staff and you’d end up with 3 different responses. We were told by one member of staff that unless you were a returning guest, you couldn’t take the shuttle to Couples Swept Away. We then spoke with someone else and they put us on the shuttle the following day, no questions asked.
The complimentary water sports made our trip. We water ski’d endlessly (we had a quick lesson which was informative). We also did paddle boarding, sailing (again, after doing a lesson) & did the snorkelling trip a few times too. We really enjoyed this part of our trip and the guys will give you a lesson if needed. Lessons are at certain times.
The only slight negative we found is time keeping. They tell you to turn up 15 minutes before a lesson or before the snorkelling trip is due to start but they are normally 15/20 minutes late so you’re just standing around for 30 minutes in the scorching heat and they don’t tell you what’s going on. If you’re reading this, turn up when the lesson/trip is due to start :)
The Catamaran is complimentary and well worth doing. We had a great time and wanted to do it a few times but weather meant we could only do it once. The one time we did manage to do it, we had a beautiful sunset and saw a dolphin which started to race the boat. It was brilliant.
The Snorkelling is complimentary. We’ve seen better but this is worth doing also. We saw some colourful fish and a Sting Ray.
The only outside excursion we did and paid for was the trip to Ricks bar which was $15 pp. the taxi man was 25 minutes late and I’m not sure if the lady at the tour desk actually booked it. She wasn’t there at the time we were supposed to get picked up and we had to speak to reception to see what was going on. They rang a taxi and told us that he was running late, supposedly...
The evening entertainment was ‘good’. We enjoyed the jazz band, the solo singer, the guitarist at the beach bonfire and the fire breathers at the beach party. These all start at 9 and finish at 10pm. From 10pm, there’s normally Karaoke or a disco in the Piano bar but these seemed to have low attendance and we decided not to go after trying a couple of times and it not being very good. Overall though, given the circumstances I was pleased with the entertainment in the evenings.
The daytime entertainment on the other hand is pretty poor. When the suns out, that’s no problem, but when it’s raining (which it did A LOT during our two week stay) there’s next to nothing to do. I feel like they could have organised a pool or table tennis competition or had other ideas to entertain guests. The pool table is always there to play but after playing a few games that gets boring.
Rooms are nice and clean and are cleaned daily. The bed is big and comfortable. The air con is great and we often found we needed to turn it down because we got cold.
There’s zero point upgrading to a ‘partial ocean view’ room. It is literally a partial view through the tall trees. If we came again then we definitely would just stick with the Garden view.
Overall - It was a great honeymoon and I’d recommend this hotel.
Everything that I remembered from our first visit and more

My wife and I were finally able to come back to Couples Negril after I had to cancel because of two different surgeries the past two years. I MUST say, the resort, staff, location, amenities, food…I could go on and on, let’s just say the resort IS everything that I remembered on our first trip here 3 years ago. The Beach is racked and cleaned every morning, the food in the different restaurants is amazing ( I would recommend the pan fried red snapper for lunch and I am not a fish eater), the pool is large, the bars can make you basically ANYTHING (I’m partial to rum runners). The rooms are spacious and house keeping does an awesome job daily and you get our own mini bar/fridge. The resort handled this Covid-19 well even going so far as paying for your test if you need one to go back home. I have not stayed at any other resort in Jamaica so I cannot compare, however when you find a place for a couple to come to without worries, and you feel SO RELAXED (although there is entertainment and activities for those more lively than us) WHY would we want to try anywhere else. They offer a rewards point system for coming back which yields certificates for amenities like a spa massage. I believe once you find Couples Negril, Jamaica you may not stay anywhere else on the island. Cannot wait to plan our dates for next year…
