Only stay a few days, not a good base.

I'd not stop here again. Looking tired in places with stained/ worn or just dirty carpets. Including in our bedroom. Obviously its been painted recently but very poorly. I don't like the layout in general and there's surprisingly little choice of food/no nice restaurants. Overcrowded pool area forcing you to head the Volcano waterpark which is far better. Overall I'd only recommend staying here for the early access to parks. Not a great location for anything else so disappointing. That said you can use the transport to City walk where there are more things to do and see. Check in was painfully slow don't know why it takes so long to print the room keys.
Disappointing

This resort was disappointing, some areas that had bedroom building needed an update. We had to change room for this reason. The main building was in better shape. As for the lazy river it was not included in your stay it was an extra cost to use it. And if you have kids it can get expensive! The Food offered in the Resort was very bad. We had tried it for lunch. There was a Starbucks so we had breakfast there. We left the Resort every evening to eat supper, and we had no car, so we had to Uber to dine out.
Stayed for Volcano Bay access

Stayed over Easter weekend as my 15 & 12 yr old were interested in Volcano Bay. Called morning of check in to request a room as closest to the Volcano Bay entrance as possible and even though I checked in closer to 11pm, the guy at the front desk got us a room in the Bayside Towers facing the volcano. Bayside has the walking path right in front and closest to the waterpark. Literally less than 3 minutes from Bayside to the security checkpoint for Cabana Bay guests. It's so close that you could leave the park, return back to hotel and go back again without worry - only thing is if the park reaches capacity you won't be able to get back in. Take towels from the pool with you into the park. I'd grab some in the evening to avoid having to do that in the morning. Housekeeping comes by for garbage and towels daily, I think bedding is changed on the 6th day. Very easy for families as lots of different eating options and even though there are so many rooms, it doesn't feel crowded due to the layout and design. Bayside was the farthest from the lobby, either you go through or by the pool to get to the lobby. Pool access is on the left side - if you go on the right side (from Bayside), it takes you to the lobby but no pool access. You're walking next to the lazy river. The other way gets you into the pool area. Enjoyed the themed 50's design and decor, even my kids mentioned it. All in all, a solid choice for visiting Universal especially Volcano Bay.
The best resort for a family in Florida!

This is the best hotel beach resort! The vibe reminds me of the later years and fallout vibes absolutely awesome! Check in was easy and rooms was great and the pools love the two sides pools to explore the huge property the food was expensive at the diner but was so good and so may options. I will be returning here again
High Hopes but mediocre

High Hopes from what we saw on the website but just ok. We had marked “early arrival” as the check-in questionnaire asked, yet upon arrival, we were told it would be 4-5 hours until the room was ready,BUT they just happened to have A Family Suite ready if we wanted to spend the $. We had been up since 3am, so we spent it, only to arrive to the room with maintenance inside (big cart in the middle of the living room) working. He was very nice, but we were tired, and paid the extra $ to be able to relax. He finished up and then we were allowed to use our room. He hadn’t cleared it to be rented yet, but they sold it to us anyway. So, for the extra $, we had a mini fridge that rocked and got jammed on the cupboard next to it, kitchen stools that were old and had holes in them, a safe that didn’t work and almost nowhere to put clothes. The beds are comfy, the food is basic cafeteria style-pricey and just ok. The decor and music is fun, as well as the Lazy River. Bowling was fun, but it was surprising to find it was an additional fee, as the website made it sound like it was an amenity and a perk of staying at the hotel. They also asked if we were there for a special reason-yes, anniversary. Not sure why they asked-never acknowledged it. Shuttle service was good, like at Disney. Only resemblance to Disney, who does everything to perfection and makes every visit special. All staff was very friendly and helpful. Completed Cabana Bay survey and mentioned room issues and they basically replied, “sucks to suck” but we hope you’ll stay with us again. Probably not.
