This was a very well appointed resort with many amenities we have seen at other resorts, but even a few more personal touches than we haven’t seen at others. My husband and I decided that this resort was the best we have ever seen at its price category, and probably the best we’ve stayed at period.
The staff were overwhelmingly, ready to exceeded your expectations. They were always smiling and always asking what they could do to make your trip better, especially the preferred club staff. We were lucky enough to have Jose as our Butler, but Francisco, Isis, and the other preferred club staff, were always smiling, opening doors, and asking how our day was going.
We were only there for four nights, but we were in love with the restaurants. we most enjoyed the Bordeaux restaurant, attending it for dinner twice. It had many options to meet many needs and desires. I am gluten-free and I had zero issues finding food at this resort. The Himitsu restaurant provided a Teppanyaki table experience that was fabulous. Oceana was also delicious, providing great, seafood, and steaks. For breakfast, we went to market Café every morning. The fresh made omelettes were to die for (and the red sauce you can put on top was the best I’ve ever tasted). Eduardo made some amazing crêpes at the crêpe station! There was a great mix of premade foods and custom order food, all of which was prepared quickly.
The resort is built in such a way that it provides a really nice amount of shade even when it is 85°. The pool bars are convenient and we love being able to swim up to them. The only suggestion I would have for the resort would be a larger overhang at the pool bar. There was not really any shade near it. For us fair skinned people, it would be nice to still be able to hang out there instead of seek out an umbrella.
The waves were quite intense while we were there, and there was a lifeguard, watching to make sure people remained safe. I consider myself a strong swimmer, but still did not. Enter beyond my knees.
This resort was a fabulous experience for us, and we would definitely return!
We are world of Hyatt members, and utilized points to book this trip.
I am not sure I feel that preferred club is a necessary upgrade, but some of the perks, like having it’s own bar, your own Butler, and a tub on the deck were all really nice features.
Anniversary trip to Secrets
Feb 24, 2024
Our first time in PV. We chose a Costco trip, upgrades to Preferred room. We went to celebrate our 40th anniversary and get some sun. The preferred room upgrade is very nice. We had a concierge/butler for the entire stay. Carlos Miranda was our butler. Carlos gave us a warm welcome and was thorogh explaining our area at check in. It was nice to have the Preferred room, Carlos seemed to be everywhere on property. He always greeted us by name , and asked how we were doing and if we needed anything. We received some nice touches in our room in celebration of our anniversary. Nothing over the top, just right.
Food was fabulous. There was always something to eat or drink if you wanted it.
If you are thinking of taking a special trip to PV, consider Secrets, ask for Carlos Miranda!
Well kept smaller resort
Feb 24, 2024
Beautiful well kept smaller resort. The rooms are all ocean view, we booked a basic room and it was very nice. Loved that it was a five minute walk anywhere on the resort. The staff was very friendly and attentive, especially infinity pool staff. We found all the food was excellent, probably the best, freshest buffet we have had.
On the down side, HIGH pressure to go to their sales team breakfast/timeshare push. We said no many times and Maria kept pressing and trying to guilt us into going and was even tracked us down on the resort to further pressure us. Hate that!!!
However we would go back and just avoid that conflict with that staff.
Secrets Vallarta Bay
Feb 24, 2024
We went to Secrets for a little rest and relaxation and to get away from the cold. We were first met by staff to check us in with a glass of champagne. The bellhop took our bags to take to the room when it was ready. We had been traveling for quite a number of hours and were hungry. We were able to go into the Market restaurant for a buffet lunch. Benito specifically provided excellent very attentive service there and for the rest of our stay each morning for breakfast. The room was really nice when we checked in with a great view of the beach. We could hear the waves rushing in every night and slept like babies. There were several restaurants to choose from between Secrets and Dreams. There were activities planned each day. It was a great experience and my husband and I will return.
Great for large groups, crappy for the average vacationer
Feb 23, 2024
Pros: clean comfortable/spacious rooms, comfortable bed, good shower, nice balcony views, good food all day long (especially the speciality restaurants), really enjoyed the breakfast buffet too
Cons: this report really caters to large groups and weddings, so if you're "just" a regular vacationer, expect to be inconvenienced by loud music going on into the night (that bounces off the buildings so it's doubly loud) , areas/restaurants closed unexpectedly, etc.
rocky beach (water shoes recommended if you like to swim there), the pool/beach chair game is ridiculous (people out at dawn "reserving" chairs even though there are signs that say the staff will remove unattended items (never once saw that enforced!), pool/bar very crowded in the afternoons when the golf crowd comes back..
we were glad to go over to the Dreams side for a bit quieter pool area and better ocean swimming some days, but we wouldn't go to this resort again
