The resort is clean. Service is very poor. Staff do not speak English and they have no idea how to provide hospitality. I was booked in another resort and found out last minute my resort over booked so I was forced here. I booked the best room and paid accordingly. However my room was privileged deluxe, sounds good but, means average. There is no adult pool, kids running around everywhere. I would expect a designated area for kids. There is one pool swim up bar maybe 6 seats. Service there poor. Beach area bars, no idea how to serve. Smoking permitted everywhere, not pleasant. There is only 1 pool, no designated areas. I came here for a vacation and I stopped tipping after 2nd day. The resort staff do not deserve my money. I complained and issues I had at the guest services and talked to Silvio. He provided the standard responses. I understand and I am sorry. There is no manager on site here. If you like to have sun, no service and mediocre accommodation this is the place to come. Save yourself the tipping money at a minimum. Order a bottle of wine and pour it yourself, is that a 5 star service? Go to a buffet and not be offered drinks? It’s so disappointing I would rather stay home. I suspect this will be the next Cuba. There are better places to go. Sadly resorts like this give the entire Dominican hospitality a bad reputation.

Fabulous location, grounds, and room. A good choice of restaurants, however we found the food in most to be bland. Fresh ingredients, nicely presented but without taste. Our room was fabulous but, next to the power generator so we lived with a constant humming sound! Majority of Staff were friendly & helpful. Generally we were overwhelmed with the beauty of the hotel but certain aspects prevented giving it a 5 * rating. We will return.

Overall, the resort was very nice. Our room was clean and comfortable. The beach was lovely, the water clear and warm. We enjoyed the pool too. The new buffet had a wide variety of foods. The service at the buffet and other restaurants was so-so. Many staff at the restaurants and housekeeping didn’t speak much, if any English. We knew this ahead of time via other people’s reviews. It was fine, we made it work. We had a butler, which ended up being a fantastic service. Dalvin was our main butler and he was terrific. Now, the bad part. Both my partner and I got sick about halfway thru our week, intestinal issues. My illness was so severe, I ended up requiring IV fluids at the onsite clinic. Thank goodness there was a clinic! We have no idea where we caught the illness but we didn’t eat anywhere other than at the resort. Of course, that put a big damper on our week.

We had a great time at the resort the room was amazing the private pool is so worth it! The Beach is beautiful and I can't for get ro shout out the best bartenders in the Dominican Republic Francisco and Victor!!!

My stay at Catalonia was amazing. This was my second time at the resort and I will definitely return. All the staff are very friendly. Jose the bellman was so helpful and greeted us with the biggest smile each time we saw him. The beach is beautiful, food was delicious (the crepe stand is amazing), resort is very clean, love the pool.
