Underwhelmed But Good to Know

Celestial G (Wilmington, Delaware) on Aug 22, 2026

We stayed 3 nights at Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac August 2026. The best part of our stay is the location. It is central as central could be. Restaurants abound in this lively area. It is old, historic & the iconic symbol of the city. First impression, I was underwhelmed. The lobby was not grand. We got the entry-level queen-size bedroom at about USD $665 per night (no breakfasts), the room is very tiny with no drawers. It felt the same size as in a regular cabin on a cruise. Upon check-in, the receptionist told us that our booked room does not have a window. I do not know if all of them are like that. However, he said he was able to give us a room with a window at the same price level. Whether that was an upgrade or not, he did not say. Well, the room was tiny. The bathroom, while nice & well-equipped, was also very tiny. Having a water & ice dispenser station on every floor is a big plus. There is a coffee brewer in the room. The staff from the reception, concierge, bell desk to housekeeping, they were very very good, efficient, helpful & professional. When we left daily tips & friendly notes to housekeeping, she answered back with her own friendly thank you note which was a very nice touch. I presume if you do not book the bigger suites at the hotel, you will not be impressed. The value for the price paid was in the location & staff. It is good to know what it is like to stay in this iconic hotel but next time we come back, we will try another hotel.

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

What a beautiful hotel! Our gold level service was wonderful. All the staff were so helpful and friendly! Our room was larger than expected! We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The Champaign and chocolates greeted us upon arrival! Thank you for making our trip so special.

not great

Jbristol2589 on Aug 18, 2026

I booked the Fairmont because on this most recent trip the price for a standard room here was the same at neighboring hotels. I thought it would be nice to stay in the luxury hotel...it was not. First the hotel is open to the public most of the time so that people can check it out. The lobby is beautiful but that is really where it stops. The hallways are dated and give the Shinning vibes. I understand that yes it is an older hotel but the carpets seem dirty and dark. There were a few times we were in the elevators with non-guests who admitted to 'storming the castle' to check out the place. We had to ask twice where the roof top bar was as there is very little signage. The rooftop bar is nice, on one side you have people sunbathing having gotten out of the pool and the other side is cabanas to relax. Standard room- Do not stay in any room on the 5th floor between 5130-5142. You will be above the entry archway and will hear cars coming and going all through the night. It was hard to sleep. If you have visited before you will know that having dinner at 8pm is pretty typical. We like to come back after lunch and rest. The TV in the room only has local channels or movies to purchase. There is no app access. What I found out was that you would need to stay in a gold room to have app access and that most other guest bring their own fire sticks. I love Quebec City, one of the main reasons why I visit is the food. It is amazing. In the past I have purchased cheeses, chocolates and more to bring home. I was deeply disappointed to not be able to do that this visit because of the fridges at the Fairmont. There is a fridge in each room but they are filled with items available for purchase only. There is even a sign on the fridge that says not to take anything out to put your things in our you will get charged. It was fun to say we stayed there, but we probably wont again. It wasn't worth it in our opinion.

Wonderful but at a price.

Michael R on Aug 16, 2026

Really conflicted on the review. Excellent service, super staff, stunning architecture and the foods are outstanding (breakfast is not to be missed - but get there early). Decent room and great atmosphere (a little crowded) overall. Staff were friendly and accommodating. What’s the conflict? I should expect ALL that and more for the prices to stay here. A first class hotel that charges first class plus rates. We’re glad we stayed but likely will look elsewhere for our next Quebec vacation.

Stunning views, great location but annoyingly overcrowded

835anikah (Lake Forest, Illinois) on Aug 16, 2026

PROS: beautiful hotel with ornate decorations, very clean, friendly service, unbeatable location with stunning views. Comfortable bed. Good room service. CONS: completely too crowded for the price that you pay; for example we weren’t able to get into breakfast or the bar for any of the nights we stayed. The crowds decrease the luxury and make it annoying and chaotic. Bathroom was tiny. OVERALL TAKE: stay here for an iconic beautiful view in the heart of Quebec. But be prepared to make reservations and be annoyed by crowds.
