Amazing place that turned something sad into something wonderful

Melanie H (Portsmouth, United Kingdom) on Sep 10, 2023

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Anse Chastanet during covid in 2020 (for some reason my review never posted back then but wanted to post to tell of our wonderful trip). We were forced to postpone our wedding two weeks before we were supposed to get married so decided to go away instead. We booked flights and our stay at Anse Chastanet through BA holidays and got a wonderful deal. The hotel itself is wonderful. The rooms are beautiful, set up the side of the hill (lots of stairs from the beach/restaurant so be prepared, although a shuttle is available if you struggle to walk) and our room had a breathtaking view of the Pitons from the bed and balcony with also a view of the Caribbean sea. The rooms are large and tasteful. We loved that there were no windows (just shutters with mosquito screens) so that we could hear the birds in the morning and the frogs and insects at night. It felt loud but as the sounds were all natural I slept perfectly during my stay. Obviously there were some differences during the pandemic. Masks were required when walking around (but not when you're sat in the restaurant or on the beach). This really wasn't a problem and we got used to it quickly. Temperature checks took place when you entered the restaurant but, again, this wasn't a problem. There was a nurse's station where the spa used to be and this was fantastic for me as I had an ear problem after diving and it was so convenient to have some wonderful nurses on hand who helped me out greatly. Only the beach restaurant was open during our stay and there wasn't a huge selection of food available (as I don't eat Indian food which was a big part of the menu) but what we did eat was delicious. Great spot to eat and drink though. The staff at Anse Chastanet were all so wonderful and couldn't do enough for guests. Take the time to chat to them and get to know them as they are all completely lovely. The complimentary tours and classes are brilliant so do make use of them if you are staying! The rum mixology and chocolate tasting were great and special mention to Meno and his plantation tour - 'Father Nature' is fabulous and such an asset to the hotel. We also paid to do the bird watching with Meno and, again, it was fabulous. We spent a lot of time at Anse Mamin, the smaller second beach a short walk around the North end of the bay. No food is being served there at the moment but there are drinks available and it is much quieter than the main beach. The complimentary water sports hire and snorkel gear were also brilliant. Snorkelling is great in the marine reserve area just off the beach but we thought it was even better at the North end of the bay. If you snorkel around the pier between the two beaches around 4pm you might spot the turtle who hangs around there - we finally saw him on our last day! Scuba St Lucia is attached to the resort at the South end of the bay and it was so handy to have a dive centre on site. I'll do a separate review for them as they were great. Gifter the guest liaison manager couldn't do enough for us arranging tours and excursions - again a little different currently considering Covid but still a lot to do and see. We did snorkelling, diving, horse riding, a trip to the volcano, mud baths and botanic gardens, whale watching and bird watching. Nothing was too much trouble for them to sort or arrange. We also went up to the Jade Mountain restaurant for drinks and afternoon tea and it is well worth a visit for the views from the Celestial Terrace. On our should-have-been-wedding-day we did the private dining on the beach in the evening. The set up was lovely and the food was divine. Expensive but it was worth doing for us to have something special on that evening. The only thing we would have preferred is if we had the option to arrange our own transport to and from the airport as this was arranged for us without giving us a choice and it was more expensive than it should have been but this may be due to Covid. It was different to our usual trips as we usually backpack and move around (we're not the type of people to just lounge around on the beach) but there was plenty to do for 10 days without getting bored. We'd recommend Anse Chastanet to anyone visiting St Lucia.

Wow

Tennyson G on Jul 25, 2023

Anse Chastanet has to be the most unspoiled hotel in St.Lucia, however the entire stay, the staff are gonna spoil you to the maximum, if ever staff were so welcoming and friendly at all levels of a hotel...this is it. The staff sets the tone for your vacation they are beyond what treatment and overall service is about. The room speaks for itself, true true tranquility, just birds chirping and stunning views of the world renowned Pitons and Caribbean Sea, the variety in menus, finger licking and you must and I say must visit Anse Mermin Beach and also must eat the burgers there, the activities are a must as well, especially snorkeling...Anse Chastanet I really really really enjoyed my stay, top location & top resort

Come for the food, stay for the diving!!

Dennis P on Jul 16, 2023

We went for the diving (and we weren't disappointed); however, go for the food and stay for the diving. Outstanding food/service, great diving and a beautiful resort. Doesn't get any better than that. By the way, the equipment and boats were top notch too.
