An Enjoyable Stay on the Edge of Gastown
PookyCake (Victoria, Canada) on Dec 20, 2025
I had the pleasure of staying at the Delta Vancouver Downtown Suites this past November as part of a brief business trip. If nothing else, this hotel showed me that my knowledge of Vancouver still has some holes to fill because, up until I stayed here, I didn’t even know this hotel existed @ this location (in my defence, the hotel signage is rather small and easily missed!). I don’t know, I just found that funny – my ignorance as to this hotel’s existence – because I used to regularly attend meetings just a few minutes down the street @ the United Kingdom Building. That said, I quite enjoyed my stay at this suites-only hotel. The Delta’s location, right in the heart of downtown, is ideal for business and leisure travelers. Situated as it is on West Hastings, you are literally less than a 5-minute walk from Waterfront Station – a major intermodal transit hub, which provides access to Metro Vancouver (SkyTrain), North Vancouver (SeaBus), and the Fraser Valley (West Coast Express). Similarly, the seaplane terminal is just 15 minutes away, and bus transit can be accessed at numerous points in the area. In short, you don’t feel isolated if staying at the Delta. Along with being conveniently close to various modes of public transit, the Delta is within striking distance to a lot of Vancouver’s major attractions. In no particular order: The Vancouver Lookout, Gastown, Coal Harbour, Vancouver Convention Centre, Seawall, trendy Robson Street, Pacific Centre, Canada Place and, if you don’t mind walking approximately 25 minutes, even Stanley Park. With respect to eateries, countless restaurants, suitable to any budget, are also nearby. A few noteworthy ones include: Top of Vancouver, Gotham, JOEY, Lobby Lounge @ Fairmont Pacific Rim, McDonald’s, Tim Horton’s, Riley’s, Miku, The Keg, HYDRA, ARC, and Rogue Kitchen. Thus, you can go all out or you can be frugal – the choice is yours! In terms of my hotel experience, as noted above, it was most enjoyable. From check-in to checkout, I was made to feel like a VIP. During check-in, I was given a warm chocolate caramel cookie (this reminded me of the Hilton Doubletree) AND a packet of powdered vitamins called “waterdrop” to put in my bottled water (this reminded me of something similar they used to do at the Fairmont Pacific Rim). The front desk people were a total joy to deal with; they were friendly, personable and genuine. My room was a Queen Suite. Filled with beige, blue and grey tones, the overall vibe was one of total relaxation and comfort. I loved that my room was an actual suite – a living room and bedroom connected by a small hallway. After a long day of meetings, it was such a welcoming space to come back to. The living room was cozy and the bedroom, with its 2 Queen beds, was the perfect place to unwind and sleep – total comfort! Of course, the suite had all the amenities contemporary travelers have come to expect: Flatscreen TVs (one in the living room, another in the bedroom), WiFi, charging ports for smart devices, and a delightful mini fridge. I mentioned above that I stayed here on business. Our seminar was held at one of the Delta’s meeting rooms. The space was fine (the meeting was boring), but the catering was delicious! Chicken karaage, sliders, tempura prawns, goat cheese and crackers, and a selection of beverages. I assume these came from the in-house restaurant, Stock & Supply. Given my overall experience, I would gladly stay at the Delta Vancouver Downtown Suites again. The customer service was next level (really appreciated all of the small touches); my room was modern, comfortable and clean; and the atmosphere was welcoming – not “stuffy” like some hotels around Vancouver. Thank you!
Friendly Service with a beautiful view

I booked this hotel as a solo trip to the coast. I will honestly say this was one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever been to. I was greeted right away during check-in with Henry. He advised me that I had been upgraded and I was now situated on the top floor. He provided me with a delicious salted caramel cookie as a welcome gift. I had also inquired about getting some distilled water for my CPAP machine to which Henry had no problem, giving me a bottle I went upstairs and was blown away at the room is absolutely stunning. It was located on the corner facing the harbor and towards the Vancouver Lookout, I was able to watch the sea bus going in and out, as well as the loading and unloading of the cargo ships at Port. The room itself was clean and very well maintained. It is evident that the housekeeping staff take excellent pride in their work after unpacking and a full day of travel. I elected to check out the stock and supply restaurant located just off the lobby. I was greeted by a wonderful female server. Sorry I did not catch her name, but I elected to sit at the bar. Gordon was tending the bar that evening and really won the extra mile to get to know me. I enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and the Nashville popcorn chicken bites. Gordon was great at his job not only making me feel welcome and chatting with me but several all their guests at the same time all seated at the bar. I ended up meeting a friend later that evening and returned back for a few more drinks Gordon wasn’t the only bartender I had the pleasure of meeting. I also got to meet Ray then the following afternoon who made a killer spicy margarita. Any of the staff I interacted with were great from the door people ensuring I had an umbrella for my rainy morning, walks the housekeeper who clean and refreshed my room to the front desk, agents at checkout, making sure I had everything and even helping me access the shortcut to the waterfront sky tune station. Everyone was absolutely amazing.
Worst hotel we’ve ever been to. Room was horrible, so was the parking garage. Staff was okay. Won’t stay there again!

Worst hotel we’ve ever been to. Room was very small, our wheelchairs won’t fit. Parking garage was equally disgusting, you never know where the exit is. Come to find out we had to take the elevator which was outside and we needed a key which they never provided us with. Don’t waste your money staying there!
Good location for events at the Convention Center
too_few_trips_1 (Irvine, California) on Sep 22, 2025
This property is well located for events at the Convention Center. It is also very close to the train station and the subway line to the airport. My room was a 1 bedroom suite that was genuinely a suite -- two distinct rooms with a small hallway connecting them. The property would benefit from some refurbishing. The furniture in the living room part of the suite was showing its age and one the three elevators was out of service for most of my visit. These are minor blemishes, but a modest investment would improve this hotel. The staff were consistently helpful (including the doormen on the two doors to the property who would open the door each time I arrived or departed).
Comfortable one night stay

We arrived after our cruise ship docked at 9 AM. Thankfully, Delta has an option for early check in for this reason. We got into our room, and I took a 2 hour nap. The bed was the most comfortable on the entire two week trip! Room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We met Joanna outside the room, and she could not have been more pleased that we were there. She was the person keeping the room clean and comfortable! She was a great ambassador for the hotel. The bar in the lobby was great, had cold, local beer. The porters in the lobby can hold bags if you don’t need to leave when you checkout, and they give good directions for around town. Hotel is a quick two minute walk to the train to the airport, which is very convenient for flying out of YVR. Great stay.
