I flew from Texas to attend the wedding of my aunt's granddaughter. This is the second wedding I have attended there, although the last one was twelve years ago. My experience was the same. Poor. Twelve years ago, my wife attended with me and we actually stayed at the hotel. I came alone this time, but knew better than to stay there. Twelve years ago, the air-conditioning did not work, and guests and members of the wedding party experienced the same issue this time. Although San Diego is renowned for its wonderful climate, it was hot. The bride had paid extra for a room for her and her party to do makeup and dress. It was 90 degrees in that room. You would think the hotel staff, knowing of the wedding weeks ahead of time, and certainly the day of the wedding, would have ensured the air-conditioning was in working order. They did not. The bride and her party had to prepare in the sweltering heat. They were miserable. My personal experience was different but nonetheless poor. I arrived 45 minutes before the wedding. The hallways in this hotel are not air-conditioned. At least not that I could tell. Again, it was hot. I was miserable as well. I began to perspire profusely, to the point that I thought I might pass out. Please note that the hotel staff, those setting up for the wedding and for a 50th anniversary party across the hall, were extremely helpful and concerned. They got me a chair to sit down and some water to drink. But I was still overheated. At that point, I went to my rental car to start it and turn on the air-conditioning. But the car would not start. So I went back into the hotel. I found that the ballroom across the hall, where the preparations for the 50th anniversary party were ongoing, was at least 15 degrees cooler. I literally removed my long-sleeved shirt (T-shirt underneath), got some wet paper towels from the men's room, stood under the air-conditioning vent, and eventually I was able to cool myself off. Please know that I was not the only guest who was uncomfortable. Now, the wedding was beautiful, as were the surroundings. The food was delicious as well. My advice is that if you are going to choose this hotel to have your wedding ceremony, don't do it in the summer. You, your wedding party, and your guests might be miserable.

100% loved our stay here. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. My body/neck never got sore. Pool area is awesome. The Reef Lounge has excellent staff and food/drinks. Clean and safe. Close to all areas of SD. Traveled to SD from MI and am very pleased with our experience here. Don't delay, book now!

The Handlery hotel is our favorite place to stay whenever visiting San Diego. Breakfast at Postcards is always so good and fiesta hour at the Reef Lounge is great. All staff at hotel is always so friendly and welcoming. We love getting the rooms on the first floor facing the pool. My son loves sitting out on the patio enjoying his breakfast overlooking the pool. Location is great and not far from airport and downtown. If you’re looking for a place to stay in San Diego, we highly recommend the Handlery. Make sure to grab the truffle fries and islander colada slushie from Reef Lounge and a cookie at check in! Good room for the price. Great location- close and convenient drive to SDSU, staff was friendly, happy hour food was really good, $25 daily parking, cookies and coupons given when checking in. Walls are thin but the hotel is old, so this is understandable. Landscaping/plants were neat (tropical), the hotel was packed with a card show, car show, 2 conventions and still had great service, no issues with parking.

Staying at Handlery Hotel San Diego was very nice. I felt like I was family. The pool and hot tub were fantastic, and the food and coffee at their restaurant were very good and reasonably priced with great service.
