My mother and I stayed here for one night while I was in San Diego. The hotel was very outdated. They did not have elevators available and the rooms were really spread out. Since we took an Uber to the hotel, we had to walk a long way to our room which was hard on my elderly mother. They did not provided any continental Breakfast or coffee or water at the lobby. Beyond those issues, the pool area was just like the picture. It was clean and beautiful. I enjoyed the pool and the jacuzzi and sat in their shaded lounge chair reading for hours. Overall, I would only come back for the pool area.
needs major clean up and security upgrade

clean room, some peeling wallpaper, exterior surfaces are dirty, not as well maintained as in the past, needs complete re painting just for starters. Security issues: items were stolen from outside veranda, caught on video, no action taken nor any attempt to apologize or compensate. took multiple calls to front desk to halt an all night party across the hall.
Handlery Hotel handled us perfectly !
Aug 31, 2022
Stayed 4 nights here at the handlery. We asked for a price at front desk upon arrival, and they suggested to book it online because the price would be much lower. Good service ! They give out free pancakes for kids at breakfast with purchase of 1 adult breakfast. Parking is 10$ a night but most hotels charge for that in SD. The pool area is large, clean and well kept. The hallways are a bit dated and dark, but rooms fulfilled our needs, the beds are comfy, clean and the room quiet. The hotel it self is placed close to downtown, beach and shopping centers. We would stay here again for sure. Thanks from Family Nielsen.
Largely Excellent Venue for Our Convention
Aug 29, 2022
Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The convention price was very good and included breakfast, which was at convenient times with good food and good service. I have only a few negatives: For 635 registered convention attendees, only one restaurant/bar for lunch or dinner was dismally inadequate. The A/C in the room didn't seem to be all that forceful but was adequate; however, the vent vanes in the bathroom were absolutely filthy. Despite the presence of security, several of the same homeless people were seen at the same benches during the day. The "Munchies" room had no munchies at all the first two days of the stay although it did have two small microwaves.
Pool area was quite appealing and pool towels and furnishings were ample.
A little gem - visit the Reef Lounge bar!

We visited having booked through an agent so didn’t ‘choose’ the Handlery but we were happy to stay. Staff were friendly and helpful and it was pretty clean and tidy.
It won’t be for everyone as it is a little dated and it’s not in the best location (IF you haven’t got a car, which we didn’t)
The hotel is located on the side of a very busy freeway and there are a number of hotels on the same road. There is a mall about a 15 minute walk away with a good selection of shops and a food court, but no restaurants in a safe walking distance that we found. If you have a car though, I guess that wouldn’t be a problem.
They have a breakfast ‘buffet’ for $15 per person, but it doesn’t run every day (depends on occupancy) It’s not a big selection (scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, toast, cereal, juice and coffee) but you can fill up for the price. Long service too - 7.30am - 11am.
However the Reef Lounge pool bar (and the pool) are the stars of this hotel. Manny in particular in the lounge was a great bartender! They do good food, a great selection of drinks and the bar itself is super cute and friendly. Manny and the bar definitely made our trip here - lovely and relaxing!
A great hotel if you have a car. We explored using taxis as we were only there for 2 days. Attractions such as Balboa Park only 10 - 15 minute drive away.
