Disappointing Melia Punta Cana Beach

The resort itself is beautiful, layout and gardens. The rooms are spacious, but require some upgrading. Lack of seating on the beach and around the pool. Service in the dining rooms not consistent and lacking. Quality of the food was disappointing, not so much at the buffet, but in the a la carte restaurants. Shuttle service from beach/lobby inconsistent and disorganized. The staff was very friendly and were willing to help for the most part.

Very good hotel. We loved our stay. The staff are all friendly and the manager really took care of us. Great restaurants on site also.

Needs a great deal of improvement

We are currently still at the resort with a few days left before we go home and I have to say it cannot come soon enough. How this resort receives so many good reviews is beyond belief. Firstly the good Grounds are stunning as is the beach Quimera and Muoi restaurants are excellent One or two members of staff are lovely however the majority of the staff sre not. Our room maid/ cleaner is excellent and does a wonderful job. The wonderful lady , I think her name is Lou who works in the Level reception has been amazing and it is a pity not all staff members are as wonderful as she is. The bad Check in This was terrible. We were dumped in the main lobby without being told where we had to go. We worked out we needed to get a shuttle buggy to The Level reception where once again we were just dumped with no directions of where to check in. Eventually another holiday maker showed us where to go. At check in we were not offered a drink until it was time to go to our room. We have travelled extensively all over the world in 4 and. 5* resorts and without fail have always been offered a drink upon arrival accompanied by a cool towel. Room service As it was late and we were very tired we ordered room service. When it arrived it was a very soggy , sweaty club sandwich accompanied by 6 French fries all covered by cling wrap . The man just knocked on our door and handed the plate to my husband. Not in any way what I would call 5* room service. Sunbeds As we had upgraded to Level we at least expected to be able to get a sunbed in the designated Level pool or beach area. This has not been the case. There are not enough beds to cater for all the holiday makers and I do not expect to have to wander the resort looking for a bed to drag to a spot on the beach or by the pool. There are Bali beds at the front of the beach that can only be used at an additional cost. However the majority of them remain unused which is very frustrating when there are no other sun beds available so you have to sit on a towel on the sand.!!! Staff The attitude of the majority of the staff is the worst I have ever experienced during my extensive travels over the years. They are rude, unhelpful and make you feel like everything is too much of an effort. I speak very little Spanish but go out of my way to speak it as much as I can but with the odd exception most staff members just laugh in my face . This evening my husband was openly mocked at the Level rooftop bar by the barman because he ordered a cocktail and pronounced it incorrectly. The barman proceeded to mock him to all the other holidaymakers sitting at the bar, making my husband feel extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed. Due to his embarrassment we immediately left the bar and spent the remainder of the evening in our room. I also do not appreciate being bullied by waiting staff into giving Google reviews with them standing over me after I have just finished my dinner until I have submitted it on my phone. Room Our room is clean and pleasant . However upon arrival I preceded to plug my phone charger in the plug socket only to find exposed wires and it hanging off the wall. I contacted our concierge and he arranged for it to be fixed. However this was extremely dangerous and things such as this should be checked on a regular inspection basis The spa Staff are friendly and the massages were excellent. We were disappointed that during numerous visits when we asked for robes we were told they didn’t have any that day ( every day) and to use 2 towels instead. Once again a complete lack of what a luxury spa experience should be. With a few changes this resort could be excellent and I truly hope that the senior management start to pay more attention to the negative aspects that are frequently highlighted by other reviews I have read. In summary despite all the negatives my husband and I have ensured we are making the most of a bad situation and enjoying our holiday as best we can.
