OK But Would Not Stay There Again

Jill P on May 27, 2026

Pros: *Comfortable bed and linens. *Kitchenette: large refrigerator, tiny sink, tiny counter, coffee maker ( they supplied coffee which tasted good, cream, sugar, microwave. *Small stackable washer/dryer in unit, they provide laundry detergent. HOWEVER, dryer was RUSTY inside *Small toiletries provided *Resort has very easy direct access to beach. Beautiful beach, plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas *It was nice they provided snorkel gear *Vibe: Low key, quiet even though there were a few children, not many though. *The AC worked great Cons: *Biggest disappointment was the LACK of amenities. We felt stranded. There was only ONE restaurant and bar which was more expensive than at some other resorts. The restaurant was small and so was the bar for seating. *There was no little store or somewhere to buy snacks, water, even a candy bar. The only thing the front desk sold was bottled water which was much more than the grocery store in town. *They lend out rickety old bikes. Other resorts had nicer bikes. *The LOCATION IS AWFUL as far as how far you have to travel for the downtown area where the restaurants and grocery store it. rent a car or want to pay for rides every single time you want to go into town to go to the grocery store. We kept running out of bottled water and had to go to the store 3 times. The first day we got there we used their bikes that had little baskets on the front to get supplies. I could hardly ride the bike it was so rickey and the steering was loose. I almost got hit by 2 cars with the crazy traffic and I ended up falling off of my bike. *If you stay on the 3rd floor, there is no roof so if it rains you can't sit out there unless you want to get wet and the patio furniture gets wet. Why they can't put some sort of cover on it, I have no idea. One day we walked down the beach quite a ways to go to another resort. OCEAN CLUB EAST. What a difference in the vibe, amenities, number of places to eat. Also, the employees and bartender were VERY friendly unlike some of the staff, bartender at RWI. The bartender at RWI was very rude to my husband. We loved the Cabana Bar at Ocean Club East. Plus the beer is about $2 cheaper than at RWI. Some of the staff at the front desk at RWI seem very unhappy and like they don't want to be there and don't like tourists. Taxi ride for airport each pay per person is between $20-22 Ride to grocery store one way $8 per person Ride to Thursdays "Fish Fry" one way $14 per person *********************************************************************************************************** I wish I had know about a gem of a restaurant before the last night. The food, service and prices were the best! YOU HAVE TO GO TO ............................................................... OSTERIA PIZZA E CUCINA. AUTHENTIC Italian food!! I'm Italian and it was THE BEST PIZZA I've ever had!!! The staff is extremely friendly, ambiance and music wonderful! *********************************************************************************************************** Back to RWI, If your goal is to have a quiet relaxing layed back time, it's great. We liked that about the place. We would not stay there again though.

Birthday Treat!

Michelle G on May 21, 2026

I have stayed at the Royal West Indies 4 times before, and because of timing, we stayed at the Ocean Club East. We walked along the beautiful beach and ended up at the restaurant at the Royal West Indies just for drinks. My family announced to everyone that it was my birthday, and they all sang Happy Birthday to me, a stranger. Even though we were not staying at this hotel and had bracelets from another hotel, the staff still presented me with a Birthday treat and a candle and sang again! Did not charge us either! Now that is service with a smile!! Best Birthday EVER!

Once is not enough..

Tropicalbeachgal (New Jersey) on May 13, 2026

On May 7th we flew to Providenciales for our very first visit to the island of Turks and Caicos to celebrate my birthday,  May 10 (also Mother's Day) After months of researching where to stay, we chose Royal West Indies.  It checked all our boxes. Our flight from Newark N.J. on a Thursday morning was flawless and no lines when we landed. Within an hour of getting off the plane,  we checked into RWI. The shared taxi was $40.00. We were greeted by Deandre and Touche. They greeted us with such genuine enthusiasm and I immediately knew we chose the right resort. Prior to traveling,  I called and emailed to request a third floor building as close to the ocean and we were given building 2, room 234 which is the third floor.  The sunsets were spectacular from our balcony. The stretch of Grace Bay is just peaceful and perfect. We walked to the other ends of the beach and so worth it. We walked into town two days in a row for souvenir shopping.  Each way took 15-20 minutes. Very clean,  very safe island.  Not once did we feel insecure of our surroundings. If you enjoy walking on a beautiful,  big, beach. This is it! Friday morning we went on a 3 stop tour with Ocean Vibes. Stopped off at the reef to snorkel, the Sandbar and to Iguana Island where we chose to enjoy the pristine beach. The crew was great,  super fun group tour. We met them on the beach at the Ritz Carlton Dock at 9am. The fish fry Thursday night was so much fun. We got a shared ride from hotels reception desk. $8.00 per person. We had a blast, good food, great drinks, danced, watched the carnival parade, browsed the merchandise, and called our ride to pick us up.. Friday morning Deandre at RWI reception desk called Grace Bay Rentals as we wanted to explore by jeep. We went over to Chalk Sound and Sapodilla Bay. Parked for $3.00 at Las Brisas, crossed the road and enjoyed the most spectacular beach for the day. $40.00 two chairs and umbrella. We had appetizers and drinks and it did not disappoint! For my birthday dinner I originally booked Infiniti Restaurant and canceled to switch it to Coco Bistro across the road from RWI (resort) The place is FANTASTIC! Service was impeccable and impressive,  Food was OUTSTANDING!! I'm a foodie and a great cook. I always want a place that will prepare something better than I can make for myself.  Coco Bistro did not disappoint.  Our waiter was Joseph and he seriously gave excellent service. The restaurant manager,  OBrian checked on every table and it was a nice touch.  Since it was a last minute birthday dinner reservation,  I was thrilled they gave us a table.  I wish I remembered the young man's name who took my call and said "come right over" thank you! My snapper and his Mahi Mahi cooked perfectly and the presentation was superb!!! A few Staff members I didn't mention yet. The bar staff:Ricky, Herby, Will, and Charlie . Fun, great mixologists, amazing,  fresh (not frozen) Pina coladas but the green tea shots...delicious! Fantastic happy hour too! 5-7pm. Sherman, we met at check in and had the privilege of chatting with him throughout our stay. He is the kindest individual ever and I/we, enjoyed our chats with him. I told him he's famous in reviews and it didn't faze him. He enjoys living life and clearly enjoys his job. A real people person Campbell (like the soup) carried our luggage at check in, and personally shopped for us on his break to get us milk and a six pack of beer for my guy. That's great service!! Matt'le was another fabulous person who served us breakfast one morning in the Restaurant. The food was always good and portions plentiful. The room was large, spotless..kitchenette had a coffee pot, toaster, microwave and full sized refrigerator with all dishes,  cutlery and glass ware needed (if you need) Bathroom had a deep soaking tub and the water pressure in the shower is FANTASTIC! The washer and dryer in our unit was great to have.  Yes, I used it. It was great on our last day. We extended checkout to 2pm for an additional $55.00. Enjoyed the beach,  dried our bathing suits before packing to head home. The Quiet pool and hot tub area was pristine.  We definitely enjoyed that too. The only thing missing is a sundry shop.I needed aloe after a day on the boat and nothing available to purchase. It wouldn't stop me/us from coming back. Turks and Caicos overall impression is......WE CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN! This is one clean island,  modern, well built buildings (no shacks), great town with plenty of stores to get whatever you need. We stopped off at a drugstore and the doctors office was inside the same office (just incase) The locals are very warm and friendly. I felt like we met some really wonderful people who combined left us with nothing but praise for the island.  Looking at Middle or North Caicos for the next trip. If you read this to the end, go book yourself a trip.  You won't regret it! I read so many of your reviews prior to this trip and each of you contributed to our decision to go with Royal West Indies. Thank you!

Very sick in one of their rooms...stay away !!

fslook (Stratford, Connecticut) on Mar 17, 2026

Wife and I stayed at Royal west indies on Jan 11 to jan 17. We got extremely sick on the second day and went for treatment at the local medical clinic and was treated wire IV's and nausea medicine. It didn't help and we were in constant contact by phone with the local doctor. We were restricted to the room all week not being able to eat and/or see any of the amenities of the resort. When we got back to the United States we were diagnosed with Legionaire Disease and hospitalized for 6 days. The States CDC informed us the incubation period was two days..exactly when we got it. I contacted management at Royal west indies and the said they tested...Feb 9th was their testing 20 days later !!! And of course they denied it !! They didn't even have the decency to refund any of our resort money we paid !! Unfortunately the United States told us they have no international jurisdiction. Such a shame they are geared to denying everything with no compassion for a customer to not be able to even enjoy the resort while under mis diagnosis of the local medical facility. What a lousy management policy...just a money grab...My advice is please stay away..maybe that was part of the reason they were cheaper than the real 4 star resorts. You get what you pay for !!!
