We have recently returned from a 2 week stay at Accra. I would echo many of the previous reviews re the hotel being in need of renovations and it does have some issues, but I won’t repeat what has simply been said below. However, we found it was great to use the hotel as a base to explore the island and we thoroughly enjoyed making use of the beautiful beach setting (and happy hour!).
The location is great, and there are lots of great bars / restaurants to suit all budgets. To name a few, we would recommend Champers/Tapas/Naru/Babydoll/ArtSplash/Shagees/the lady in the car park serving lunch from the back of her van!
However, the hotel’s biggest asset is its wonderful staff. I wanted to personally thank those who made our holiday so memorable:
Sylvester (aka Mr Trouble) and Javon (just look for the shades) on the bar. Thank you for the flowing rum punch and entertainment!
The guys at the beach / pool: Torian, Shavion and Jaydon. In my opinion you have the one of the toughest jobs yet they always had a smile and good humour and we enjoyed chatting to you each day.
Joel on the front desk who was super friendly and helpful with getting us anything we needed and looking after our luggage when our flight was delayed.
Should the hotel under go renovation, we would hope to return one day. My advice would be to go with the flow and enjoy your holiday - you’re in paradise!
Amazing Location on the most beautiful island!

Just arrived back from 10 days at Accra Beach for my wife’s 50th birthday. Booked over a year ago with Virgin Holidays and after reading some reviews we were thinking about trying to change the hotel….. so pleased we didn’t!
We had a car for 4 days and travelled about, did the West Coast twice, Holeton, Sandy Lane etc and East Coast where we visited Crane Beach, Bottom Bay and Bathsheba which were all amazing, but can honestly say in our opinion the beach and location of Accra can’t be beaten. Yes, the hotel is dated but so are so many in the Carribean, if you want 5* luxury go and pay £1k a night up on the West Coast.
The location is perfect, right on one of the best beaches on the island, on the boardwalk where you can find some great bars and restaurants and 5 mins away from Worthing and Dover Beach which is lovely too plus St Lawrence Gap.
Never had any problems with the hotel water during our stay, had a sea view room with maid service and fresh towels daily, beach towels were changed as you wanted them by reception.
Our only small negative was the beach loungers provided by the hotel need dumping, they were so uncomfortable, we ended up paying $15 a day for the ones privately.
Chicken Georges (right on the beach) is a must to go to, lethal Rum Punches though so be careful!
Champers for fine dining (on our beach) and Tapas and Naru on the boardwalk are great restaurants. Tiki Bar for lunch and cocktails.
We had a fantastic time, the island is so beautiful, but the best part for us was the locals, they are so friendly and welcoming, they can’t do enough for you!
A huge thank you to Charlene Hall at reception at the hotel, she was so lovely, nothing too much trouble and so friendly, she booked us a day pass down at the sister hotel Abidha on Maxwell Beach (which is stunning BTW) free Food, drink and transport. Thank you also for letting us stay in our room until the airport pick up later that afternoon….you were so lovely x
All in all, we had the best holiday and can’t wait to go back!

Great location with an amazing beach. Room was average if you wanted a shower that worked one day and not the next, so could do with an upgrade in the hotel rooms. My niece was gluten free it was so hard to get food that she could have she basically lived on chips chicken and rice for 2 weeks. Hardly any entertainment at night. Some of the staff were lovely and some could be off hand with you. The pool and complex was kept very clean. Thanks to Mitchell for looking after us always had a smile and banter with us. The hotel is not of 4 star quality if upgraded would go back and stay again. Please get the Wi-Fi sorted it was awful.
“Luxury $$$, not a luxurious stay!”

I don’t see why everyone is justifying the price to stay here, with the beautiful beach, and great people.
It’s average. TIRED. adjust price then.
BEACH CHAIRS AND UMBRELLAS are a joke. Staff say it themselves.
We are paying for a luxury ocean view suite, and a pretty penny for it, why should we accept such a tired building, no water pressure, barely any towels, barely any hot water, very low staff, a barely functional pool bar, kids place…?! where?? Game room? Jacuzzi.. they don’t work either.. and overly priced restaurants.
I’m sorry, I hate to complain… but having to hear that SOME rooms are updated, yet i’ve paid for a tired one, is frustrating.
Massively in need of upgrading! Do it book an ocean front room.

Firstly, if you’re reading this review after you’ve booked the hotel then I will say it is in a fantastic location with an amazing beach and lots of lovely restaurants nearby and you will enjoy those and be able to make the best of the hotel.
However, if you haven’t booked yet I would definitely avoid this hotel.
We have stayed at Accra 7 times over the last 9 years and can say we would definitely look for alternative accommodation for our next visit to the island. In the last 9 years the hotel has not been updated or upgraded in any way other than new air-con units and it is tired and dated and in need of some serious renovations and fixing.
We had booked and paid to upgrade our room to an OCEAN FRONT ROOM which boasts a jacuzzi on the balcony. We arrived at the hotel to check in to be told that the jacuzzis DO NOT WORK - in any of the room and they are not going to ever be fixed as they cannot get the parts needed any longer. So why are they still advertising these rooms with these facilities?
We were told by check in that we would therefore be given a refund of 15% of the price we had paid for the hotel to use against the restaurant and bars. Explained that we come room only to be able to go out and over the 7 trips we have never once eaten or drunk at the hotel. We were then told that they would send an email to Virgin Holidays who we had booked with to see if they could refund us that way. Asked to be copied into the email they sent so I could be kept up to date - no email and no response. Luckily having contacted virgin directly ourselves they sorted the refund for us but had to chase the hotel in order to do this. Also the amount we had paid to upgrade the room for the jacuzzi was around £800 - they would only offer a refund of £372. Do not book an ocean front room. Stay with an ocean view room - much bigger rooms and not wasting money on facilities you can’t use.
Rooms advertised as having a hairdryer - not one provided when arrived. Had to go and ask at reception for one.
Throughout the 10 days we were there we had no hot water at any time - there is no pressure in the cold water you get and the shower and taps are a mere trickle of water. One afternoon we had no water at all from the shower or taps. On mentioning to reception that didn’t seem overly bothered and said they would send someone to look. No one ever arrived but eventually the water returned.
During the stay at numerous times we had to go in search of towels for the bathroom as old ones would be taken away and not replaced. Not the most relaxing experience when you want to get in the shower after a day at the beach.
The wardrobe had two drawers inside it to use which whenever you went to open them the handles fell off!
The sun beds on the beach are in need of a huge revamp. They are broken, material sagging making them so uncomfortable and they look appalling. Literally 20 metres up the beach are local guys who hire theirs out for the day - these are in such a noticeably better condition and are cared for and fixed. Some time and effort needs spending on the ones at the hotel to re-thread the strings and improve them but even the hotel lads that put them out stated they’re a disgrace and need fixing but no one does them.
We booked the hospitality room for the last day of our holiday to have a shower and change before collected for the airport. I asked if there was a hairdryer in there to use and was told rather rudely that everything we needed was provided in the room. Got there for a shower - no towels, no shower mats for the floor - again had to go and find someone to get some towels.
The area is a beautiful location but would definitely recommend booking elsewhere to stay.
