Sadly disappointing....
Ria118Heskins (Exmouth, United Kingdom) on Apr 03, 2026
We were booked into this hotel as part of our pre stay prior to joining our Emerald cruise. Sadly it did not match our expectations. The check in process was efficient but lacked communication at many levels! On our way to the room we saw many trays stacked outside rooms that had not been cleared. The room itself was clean but very tired. Room service never existed. Our room was not cleaned, bins were not emptied and brown water was coming out the hot tap. The shower was a mere trickle. On entrance to the restaurant for breakfast, we were not informed of the process and the staff did not seem very interested. Sadly we would not recommend it or go back again.

The Property The Accra Beach Hotel is an older property, and that is evident the moment you arrive. The design, the structure, and the rooms themselves all reflect a hotel that has been around for quite some time. This is not necessarily a dealbreaker, but prospective guests should go in with realistic expectations. Our room had no balcony and faced the island rather than the ocean, leaving us with only a window for natural light and air. For the price of a Barbados vacation, the accommodations felt underwhelming. The Beach & Water Conditions We visited in February, and the water conditions were far from what most vacationers hope for. The waves were crashing so heavily onshore that the hotel placed flags in front of the property prohibiting guests from entering the water there. To swim at all, you had to walk down the beach to find a safer entry point. The waves were large enough that people were out in the Caribbean Sea with boogie boards — that is not an exaggeration. Tragically, two people lost their lives in the water during our stay. It was a heartbreaking event that no vacationer should ever have to witness. For anyone who loves snorkeling and is considering the Accra Beach Hotel in February hoping for calm, clear water — this is not that. The conditions made it completely impossible to snorkel, and seeing any fish was out of the question. Front Desk & Staff Knowledge The front desk experience was consistently frustrating. When we asked something as basic as how to get fresh towels, the response from the front desk attendant was, "That's not my job — you need to go to that other desk over there." When we went to the ping-pong table and found no paddles or balls, we returned to the front desk for help, only to be told, "I don't know, I don't handle that." It was clear that there is no standardized training across the front desk staff. Depending on the hour and who happened to be on shift, you might get a helpful answer or you might get nothing at all. A well-managed hotel ensures that every front desk employee has access to the same baseline information. That was not the case at the Accra Beach Hotel. Safety & Maintenance Concerns The fire alarm went off twice during our two-week stay — once while we were in the elevator, and once in the middle of the night, jolting everyone awake and leaving guests feeling confused and frightened. Two occurrences in a single stay is deeply concerning. There was also an instance of having no water in the room — not just no hot water, but no water at all coming from either the sink or the shower. That is an inexcusable maintenance failure for any hotel. One Bright Spot The one positive experience we can point to was at the beach bar, and truthfully it was largely due to our own preparation. We brought insulated water bottles from home, and whenever we stopped at the beach bar, the staff there were happy to fill them with ice and water. It was a small but genuinely appreciated gesture that kept us refreshed throughout our beach days. Final Verdict Between the dated property, the inconsistent and dismissive front desk staff, the dangerous water conditions, the tragedy we witnessed, recurring fire alarms, and serious unresolved maintenance issues reported by fellow guests, the Accra Beach Hotel did not deliver the relaxing getaway we had hoped for. I would not return and cannot recommend this hotel.
A truly honest review, relieved and happy with what we found.

I read so many bad reviews about this place that i was dreading going. We booked a 4 day stay after a 7 day cruise through TUI. This is a truly honest review of how we found the hotel. First the welcome - lovely smiling lady on the reception desk, greeted us warmly and welcomed us to Barbados. She booked us in and gave us vouchers for a complimentary rum punch while we waited for our room which would be ready at 3.00pm. We were directed to the Beach bar and had our drinks which were delicious and just what we needed after the journey from the ship to the hotel. The grounds were beautiful and well cared for, the pool looked inviting and was chyrstal clear. Sunbeds around the pool looked new and so did the umbrellas and we never had trouble getting any - there was 4 in our party - 2 couples. Our room was huge, overlooking the road which we knew about beforehand, but it was great looking out at the shops behind the hotel, the busy road and everything that was going on. The room had lots of storage space, a fridge, a kettle with tea and coffee making stuff in the drawer, and a coffee maker. The bed was huge, clean and comfortable. There was an easy chair and upholstered stool in the room too. A large table with mirror above and a chair. Complimentary products in the bathroom, large shower and plenty of room round the basin for storing your own stuff. If i had to make a comment about anything, it was that the fan in the bathroom was a bit noisy. That is the only negative i could find. Air con was lovely and we had hot running water with no problems. I admit i was actually looking for all the things people had said, and i know that some genuine people did experience problems in January and February, but we did not experience any of those. We had a really lovely time there. The restaurant staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was good. Plenty of choices for breakfast, the usual bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, a chef on hand to cook eggs anyway you wanted. Fruit, yoghurts, pastries and bread, toast, rolls, cereals etc. You will not go hungry. You can order snacks at lunchtime from the beach bar or go inside the restaurant. The snack menu is very good, my husband had a burger on the first day and when it came it was absolutely huge, packed with a big burger, bacon, cheese, salad and a fried egg on top too, and it came with fries and coleslaw which we didnt expect. Other snacks were equally delicious and came with fries and salad, plenty of choice. Evening meals in the restaurant were delicious with choices of chicken, beef, fish, stews, lovely buttered vegetables, rice, pasta, salads etc and the desserts were just too tempting. It was all so lovely and i can tell you i was hugely relieved. I discovered that the whole hotel was Non smoking and as a vapor, i had to go off the property to vape, which wasnt really a problem as there is a nice bench seat right outside the gates leading to the beach and backing onto the beach bar. So hubby would sit on the wall of the beach bar and i would sit on the bench on the beach. Beach was lovely soft sand, no sargassum at all, huge stack of sunbeds and umbrellas - complimentary for hotel guests. One of the lads on the beach would put the beds wherever you wanted them and put the umbrella in for you. My biggest disappointment about the hotel stay was that the sea was rough for the days we were there and the red flags were flying and we couldnt swim in the sea. Not the hotels fault of course, so we swam in the pool, which initially on entering was cold, but once you got used to it, it was lovely. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and i would recommend that anyone with any doubts, email the hotel and ask if you are worried, thats what we did. There are some refurb works going on in a few rooms, but it didnt interfere with our stay. The question most people ask is - would you stay again - and i definitely would.
Basic 3* in a great location right

A good clean basic three star hotel in an absolutely fantastic location right on accra/rockley beach. We had a great room on the third floor looking straight out to the beach and ocean. The reason for the three stars is the hotel is badly let down by its facilities and service in particular. If they invested a bit more in providing a good service they would do better. The pool area is probably the worst. There is a massive shortage of sun beds around the pool and they are taken by 9am so most people are forced on to the beach which is great if that is what you want. There is no pool service and the bar service is dreadful. The sand bar was closed for repairs whilst we were there so the only bar open was the beach bar. All inclusive customers complained they were being denied benefits as it closed at 9pm and they agreed to open to 10pm. What a joke. The swim up bar was not open a lot of the time and when it was there wasn’t someone always there to serve. We didn’t eat in the hotel apart from breakfast but people that did said the food was good. There are so many good restaurants near by we preferred to eat else where. Other posts have mentioned lack of hot water and showers not working but we had no such problems. Would definitely not go back but can recommend location so seek another nearby hotel.

Great hotel in a great location. Easy access to the beach, with shopping and restaurants near by. Complimentary drinks. Great service.
