Won’t be going back

To be honest the rooms are nice but a bit dated. The food at best was average, chicken, rice and fish everyday. The boys behind the bar are very friendly and make you feel welcome, the girls on the other hand looked at you like you are something they have stepped in on the road, very rude and abrupt when I tried to speak with one of the older ones who seem to be in charge she looked at her watch and said “I’m about to finish and not really interested” .Took 3 days to get the room cleaned. Dishes with leftovers on outside of rooms for days. This wasn’t a cheap holiday and fell far short of our expectations
Rubbish Hotel

I have left this a week before reviewing as I was so incensed with the poor quality of this hotel. On arrival you were immediately told if you want a drink you need to but it as you do NOT get your bands till 3pm, very unfriendly reception. First night bar runs out of Vodka & Rum Cream Bar manager stated THERE IS A WAR ON. Not sure what this has to do with running out of the basics. First day there on the Beech and all of a sudden gun shots, was not made aware that the Army shooting range was next to the hotel and this continued all day. During our week they ran out of straws, prosecco on more than 1 occasion, ran out of bottled beer on numerous occasions. Staff more interested in theirselves than the guests. Food - well what can I say food was never hot unless you booked in to Chopstix, Buffet food was delivered to the restaurant at 11:30 but lunch did not start till 12:30 no one was checking temperatures, Breakfast again food was never hot unless you had a omelette. We ended up buying cheese and biscuits to eat on our balcony, Drifters bar closed at 7pm on a Couple of occasions. Beech Towels on 2 occasions were not available Our room was not cleaned for 2 days Italian & Mexican themed nights - Food did not represent these countries Checking out 12 noon you then have to buy drinks until your transfer came I would find it difficult to mark this hotel as 2*
Lovely atmosphere just lots of steps!

Just arrived home from our stay here, we had a wonderful time. All of the staff were friendly and some were happy to take time to talk, everyone was polite even if they didn’t talk as much as others. The food was delicious but depends on peoples diets and choices, some days were more enjoyable than others but plenty of choice, it’s clear the chefs don’t like to waste food and have made what they have into tasty dishes. Due to family members allergies this presented issues on a couple of nights. Children have the choice of a children’s meal if they choose. The rooms were cleaned everyday and towels changed daily if you choose. We had a sea view facing room which means lots of stairs, I advise you check this if you aren’t great on your legs as the stairs take it out of younger ones too as there are so many! The beds in the rooms are really high and could do with a small step to get on, I found the beds reasonably comfortable and plenty of pillows. If you are a small family there is a single bed downstairs and the second bed is a pull out sofa bed which caused arguments as it was really uncomfortable, luckily for us we were with a large party which meant one child could utilise the spare bed in another family member’s room which may not be an option for other families visiting. It was quiet when we arrived which meant the children in our party got almost one on one with the kids club staff. The staff are hard working and are very accommodating. Kerri and Ramon are wonderful with the children and Ramon even got the older kids to interact and stay away from their phones. Kerri and the others in the kids area are amazing, they show a real love for working with children. Our children were in tears when we had to leave. Entertainment is ok, dj Raydor? I think he was called was loud and goes on about birthdays and celebrations for too long almost like he doesn’t know what else to talk about. Mother Sally was funny and I felt some acts really tried but weren’t fantastic. The fire eaters were good but careful they don’t set you on fire lol my step dad got his trousers burnt not once but twice! Could have been an issue if his clothes were highly flammable but we had a good laugh about it. The lady playing the sax is really talented and there was a young man singing modern music who I thought was very good. If you want to know any questions about the island/birds/politics lol/cricket ask Roger, lovely guy and very knowledgeable. The bar staff are lovely and happy to mix up whatever you want and although they get sick of making them lol anyone who loves a chocolate milkshake from McDonalds you need to try a mud slide! They have alcohol free for the kiddies. Jamar is a lovely guy with an eye for fashion ?? and likes to smell good lol. Over all they are all really nice and like to have a laugh. On site they have individuals selling items of jewellery and pictures. All were polite but felt one vendor was trying to blind us with numbers and charge silly prices under the impression he was giving great discounts on multiple purchases but not telling us individual prices and switched a necklace to a cheaper looking one. I decided it was best to avoid purchasing from him but he didn’t pursue or hassle us further, others bought from him and were happy with what they got, I just felt he wasn’t being transparent with us. There are lots of excursions to go on and clearly priced info on arrival. The reggae reggae buses make it easy to travel to Bridgetown and Oistins but be aware the health and safety is non existent and can be an airy ride and the feeling of being on a race track. My youngest loved them but wouldn’t like to think we ever crashed in one, they are often full or over capacity, no seatbelts and are squeezed in and squashed against anyone you may be sat next to. As a pedestrian crossing the road was great, drivers stopped and allowed you to cross safely but be aware the pavements can disappear, big holes and uneven surfaces. Although it is clear people live differently to us and you will find people smoking joints everywhere you go lol, everyone we came across was so friendly but we stayed within the tourist areas. I would definitely love to come back, I feel the staff made the visit feel special to us and I would hope if we did return the same staff will still be here. The down sides to coming here are definitely all the steps and sadly the beach was washed away leaving a rocky areas with lots of sea creatures to spot which we enjoyed. We often walked towards the boardwalk where there are some lovely reefs we could snorkel in and see some of the fish. Some nice market stalls at the end of the boardwalk which sold some nice gifts to take home. Sadly we missed seeing any turtles (others that went on excursions did) but we did get to see the monkeys and my daughter saw a stone fish so remember to take your sea shoes! On site they have stray cats and chickens walking about. All happily walking around hoping for scraps of food. This wasn’t an issue to us and enjoyed their presence but others I noticed just shoo’d them away with no further issues. Not a problem for us but the army firing rage is next door which if you don’t realise and suddenly hear gunfire can be a surprise but it’s not constant or everyday. The Canadians we met could tell what they were firing which made interesting conversation.

Beautiful Hotel - directly across from the Garrison race track and only a 10 minute walk from Pebbles Beach. We stayed here as part of our recent visit to the island and were pleasantly surprised. The room we were in was beautiful. It had a stairway directly down to the pool and the largest bed I think I've ever slept in. The hotel was beautifully appointed and clean, with a wonderful beach bar that had views out to the Caribbean Sea for those amazing sunsets so typical of Barbados. The room was extremely spacious, clean, and with plenty of hanging and drawer space. The bathroom was newly refurbished and relatively large - ample for our needs. The hotel has a gym - which some may find a necessity, it's relatively well equipped with a plenty of kit to tide you over. The food at the hotel was the only let down. The only saving grace was the thai/fusion restaurant which was open twice a week. The buffets leave a great deal to be desired but to be honest it's the same story in many of the AI hotels on the island - food is mainly imported so they do the best they can with what they have. Don't expect European diversity of dishes - it's rice, salad, macaroni, and some sort of meat dish. Fine for one night but it does get tiresome. The bar staff were all great - really quick with service and would pretty much make you whatever drink you requested (as long as it wasn't premium spirits). The beach at the hotel is non-existent. There are lots of pebbles/rocks on entering the sea so you need footwear if you're going to be that adventurous. The beach is a mixture of course sand and tree roots as the hotel beach frontage is lined with trees and the sea has exposed a large collection of roots. It's a good idea to grab what you need for the beach and walk 10 minutes to Pebbles/Carlisle bay to use the loungers on offer at one of the many beach clubs (Savvy our favourite). Do be aware though that the hotel has quite a few stairways to navigate when getting about.
