Perfect Anniversary Getaway – Exceeded All Expectations!
420Robot (Edmonton, Canada) on Sep 09, 2024
We stayed at Atelier Playa Mujeres in September 2024 for our anniversary and had an amazing experience. The resort was quiet, likely due to the warmer season in September, and despite forecasts of rain, it was mostly sunny with a few showers. The staff were incredibly friendly and often went above and beyond to make our stay special. Highlights included modern, spacious rooms, excellent food and drinks, and a stunning beach with plenty of space for quiet walks. The pools were clean, and service was impeccable. Minor downsides included some app glitches and a few mosquitoes at dusk. Overall, Atelier exceeded our expectations and surpassed other similar resorts we’ve visited. --- Overview - Visited in September 2024. It was a quiet week, likely due to the warmer season, which meant plenty of space across the resort. - Weather was around 30ºC daily. Despite forecasts predicting rain the entire time, we only had a few hours of heavy rain. Otherwise, it was mostly sunny or slightly overcast, which helped with the heat. The coastline seemed to keep the rain away. - We had previously stayed at Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya and, based on Reddit reviews, decided to try Atelier. While we loved Valentin, Atelier surpassed it in nearly every aspect – it’s more modern, stylish, and upscale. - Our experience across the resort was excellent. The staff were incredibly friendly and often added personal touches that made each moment special. - We booked through Costco (BD Experiences), which was fantastic. Airport service and communication were seamless, and it include a $500 Costco store card. Check-in - We were celebrating an anniversary and asked for a small room upgrade (queens -> king). They provided it at no extra cost and also sent some gifts and treats to mark the occasion. - Check-in was smooth, and we enjoyed amazing cocktails at the lobby bar while waiting. - Unlike many resorts that use paper wristbands, Atelier offers classy woven wristbands that double as room fobs – a nice touch we appreciated. Rooms - Our king ocean-view room was stunning, with high ceilings, a smart layout, and a very modern feel. - The bathroom was spacious and bright, with the option to be open to the room or closed off. It featured a large shower and separate soaker tub. - The room was constantly stocked with snacks, drinks, and water. - Though we weren’t directly facing the ocean (our room was in building 3, closer to the quieter inland pools), we had a sweeping view that included part of the coastline. Food - No disappointments at all. - The resort had multiple coffee shops offering excellent lattes, rotating pastries, and ice creams in the afternoons. Caffecito had a cozy coffee shop vibe, and we started our mornings here. - We loved the smoothie bar Alba, which became a regular stop for protein smoothies and healthy lunches. - La Consentida, the buffet restaurant, was a pleasant surprise. Though we didn’t plan to visit as often, the variety suited both me and my wife, who have different tastes. The staff here was fantastic – special thanks to Juan and Ricardo for practicing French with us! - Most restaurants require advance booking, but we had no trouble finding availability on the same day, or at worst the day before for popular spots. - Reservations can be made through an app or on-site kiosks. The app worked fine but occasionally had login issues, and the menus and hours were sometimes incorrect. - Dinners were consistently excellent. We frequented the Japanese and Asian restaurants but also enjoyed the Italian and Mediterranean options. - The cocktail bars at Atelier were a highlight. Unlike other resorts where you might get a basic drink with dinner, Atelier offers multiple fancy bars with expert mixologists. As a cocktail enthusiast, I was blown away by the showmanship and creativity at the mixology bar, which I visited almost every night. - There are several beach bars, so drinks are always within easy reach. - We also took advantage of 24-hour room service once, and the menu was extensive, with quick service. Amenities - The beach was beautiful, though more suited for quiet walks than recreation. It’s incredibly long and not crowded – we often took hour-long walks without interruption. There are no neighbouring resorts at the moment. - We typically headed out early to snag one of the covered huts. Though we weren’t part of the special club with access to ocean-view huts, we had no trouble finding one before 10 AM. There were also plenty of palapa huts for sun cover and lots of loungers. - The pools were very clean and spread out across the resort. We preferred the quieter pool near building 3, which had plenty of umbrellas and a few covered huts (though these filled up quickly). The main “fun” pool was busier, but it didn’t affect our experience. - All pools have swim-up bars, and there are waiters delivering drinks throughout the day. - The internet was excellent. We had a strong signal everywhere, even when lounging by the ocean. What we didn’t do - We’re early risers, so we didn’t attend any shows or evening social events, though people seemed excited about them. - We stayed on the resort the entire time. While it’s located near Cancun, you can’t simply walk off the resort, but we didn’t mind and weren’t interested in external excursions. - We didn’t participate in any of the on-site activities like tequila tastings, though they looked fun. - We skipped a few restaurants, including the American-style venues, and didn’t try the extra-cost fancy restaurant. - The gym looked great, and though we didn’t use it, there were always a few people inside. - We didn’t golf but saw some people out braving the heat. A few notes - The resort is very large. We enjoyed walking, but it could take some time to get from one end to the other, especially when heading to the beach. There is a shuttle along the main path if needed. - One downside: On the third day, we noticed an increase in mosquitoes around dusk and dawn. They were sneaky, and we got a few bites during an evening beach walk. This may have been due to the rain. The resort does provide mosquito spray, which was helpful.

It is difficult to overstate how great our trip was. Everything about our stay was just out of this world, from the service, to the food to the quality of our room! Before booking I had actually contacted concierge and told them about my plans to propose to my girlfriend. They immediately put me in touch with Gabriel and Jonathan who went above and beyond my expectations. Over email Gabriel sent me several pictures and romantic ideas for the proposal, and over the next several days we refined the idea to just what I wanted. I decided to propose on a secluded area of the their beautiful beach and follow it up with a romantic dinner on the beach with flowers and other decorations. Gabriel made the entire process extremely fun and enjoyable. Honestly felt like I was just talking to a long time friend. (After the proposal they surprised even me by decorating our room with rose petals! That just made the entire experience just so much better!) Once we arrived, from the minute we stepped out of the transport, we were immediately greeted by the staff and taken to check in. We had an Inspira level room so we enjoyed the special check in area, but even the regular check in looked great. The entire check in process probably took 10 minutes at most, and we were also given a small personal orientation of the restaurants, activities and perks that we had with our stay. After about 20 minutes we were in our room and ready to enjoy the trip. Because we had Inspira, we were spoiled by our personal, amazing butlers, Valeria and Victor. From the minute we checked in, they connected with us through WhatsApp and every day would send us the activities for the day, check in with us to make sure our rooms were cleaned and if we needed anything. If we wanted to make a reservation for a restaurant, book an activity, or anything else, we would just message them and they would take care of it. To show just how great they were, Valeria actually was aware of my plans and after check in, while my girlfriend was distracted, took me to meet Gabriel and finalize any last minute paperwork for the dinner. She even greeted us after I popped the question, congratulated and walked us to our dinner. Even snuck in a few candid pictures of us during dinner, and a few of the beautiful decorations. Victor, who was our butler during the mornings, checked in every morning, spoke to housekeeping to make sure everything in our room was clean and restocked, and even asked us what we would prefer to have restocked instead of just providing things we wouldn’t use. At one point we needed some cream for our bug bites (don’t forget your bug sprays) and he contacted local pharmacies and was able to deliver the cream to our room. If you get either Valeria or Victor as your butlers, know that you are going to have an amazing experience! The dinner itself was just spectacular. The decorations were even better than the sample photos. We were greeted by the chef before we began and had our own private waiter who was also amazing! He even offered to have the flowers and decorations delivered to our room after dinner! This was in addition to the surprise decorations that they had left us after the proposal. Finally, no proposal would be complete without a photographer so I would like to give a shout out to Julio, Arlene and our photographer from El Instante, the photography studio at the resort. They were all very friendly, responsive and took some great photos! As for the resort itself, it was very well maintained, was new and modern. All the restaurants and bars were great! Our favorites were Mercado 19, Cilento and the Inspira Rooftop Bar. The beach was also very clean and well maintained. I recommend getting Inspira since the Inspira section has more areas to sit. We also got to experience the spa and got to enjoy a couples massage. We had Samantha and Fernando as our therapists and they were just wonderful. Made the entire experience very pleasant and relaxing. If you are a fan of messages, I would highly recommend asking for both Samantha and Fernando. The only thing we did not like was their timeshare pitch. Although you won’t get approached about it directly, they might offer you extra things which are not included with the all inclusive plan, such as dinner at Maria Dolores or a free message if you listen to their pitch. Unfortunately, it is similar to a timeshare pitch (although they insist it is not a timeshare) where they will try to sell you a membership where you will pay a huge chunk of money upfront, to get the ability to book cheaper rooms over the next several years. We regretted doing it and would’ve preferred to spend the two hours not sitting through a sales pitch and actually enjoyed the resort more. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would absolutely recommend Atelier to anyone looking to spend some time in Cancun!
"The facilities, the food, and the service are first-class; we were very pleased."

""We were there from August 30 to September 6. We enjoyed a week of first-class service and were very well attended by all the staff. I don’t remember the names of everyone, but the person who cleaned our room, as well as our butlers Pingting and Aliñe, were very attentive to us at all times. During our breakfasts at Market 19, Donovan at the Damaris and Enrique beach, and honestly, everyone at all the facilities of Atelier was very attentive. I highly recommend this place. Thank you for your hospitality."

Fantastic Resort with Butler Service
Tanya E (Houston, Texas) on Sep 06, 2024
My husband and I have been going to Atelier since December 2020. We joined during our second visit a few months later. I travel quite a bit and love the fact that this resort feels like an upscale home away from home. We were there for a late anniversary celebration. I am still getting used to having Butler service…but Martin and Armando were great and so attentive. It was great knowing I didn’t have to worry about a thing! From dinner reservations, to needing ice in my room, to ensuring my mini-bar was stocked, they were on it! One night after dinner we were surprised with a bubble bath, sweet treat and champagne in our room. So thoughtful.
