Special resort until it started falling apart and realistically no reopening in sight

Adi M (San Jose, California) on Jul 14, 2026

I did visit the resort while it was still operational. The location, the service and the food were outstanding, but ..... The resort was literally falling apart, outdated and dilapidated everywhere yu looked, from the rooms, the pool, jacuzzi, lobby, spa, sunbrellas, lounge chairs (you get the gist of it). After expressing our displeasure (and beeing transferred to a different room as ours was literally falling apart and had severe staains on furniture fabric and scratched wood), we ended up receiving a certificate for a week to return after the renovations. As time went by, 2 years later after endless communications with the manager, and getting extensions for the extra week, the manager stopped ressponding, and I had to get to Hyatt corporate to escalate it and ended up getting points in exchange for the week certificate. It turns out that the franchise DOES NOT owns the resort, and the owner can decide wheter he wants to be part of the brand or not. It appears that the owners decided not to move forward as planned with the renovations, which is sad as this was a very special place before its sharp decline.

Renovation Update June 2026

752shawnj (Long Beach, California) on May 29, 2026

There is not a worker in site. Construction looks to be stalled. The entire interior is a shell and looks like it was damaged by a hurricane. They are not anywhere near completion and months if not a year or more away, in my estimated uneducated guess.

Renovation update

travel55Seattle (Saint Louis, Missouri) on Feb 21, 2025

I did many swim by’s last week. Shell of structure is there but all interiors have been gutted. No construction workers or activity was seen the week I swam by daily. Hopefully this lovely facility will reopen. There is a lot of new builds on the peninsula.

***RENOVATION UPDATE*** Zoetry Villa Rolandi

Robert_R57117 (Fort Worth, Texas) on Oct 19, 2024

The photos were taken October 12th, 2024. Complete renovation was projected to be complete during December 2024. Unfortunately, construction is going much slower than anticipated. Guests were originally permitted to book from December to April, but based on the current rate of remodeling, the work is now projected to be complete after April 2025. My personal guess for those booked December through April is a vacation relocation to Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres. Secrets Playa Blanca is on par with Zoetry for food and drink quality and nice accommodations. I stayed at Secrets Playa Blanca early September and very much enjoyed the vacation. Obviously if Secrets Playa Blanca is at capacity, another resort will need to be utilized. If you are booked at Zoetry December through April and want to experience this newly remodeled and renovated resort, you might want to delay your booking until later 2025. Otherwise, if you cannot move your time slot, might make sense to cancel and book elsewhere to give you control. Zoetry management is doing all they can to get this renovation right and move it along as quickly as possible, but these delays cannot be avoided.

Perfect place

chasermayer (Dallas, Texas) on May 14, 2024

This place is unbelievably and uniquely fantastic, from the service, to the food and drinks, never disappoints. Hospitality unmatched, there was never an empty drink or unmet need. Seeing the island on a golf cart is a must do. Saulo in the Resturant, and Orlando & Alejandro at the pool will show you what great service truly is.
