Sadly, can't go back

Not good. 1st room did not have a kitchenette as listed in the reservation; Got moved to a 2nd room had a cockroach crawling on wife's pillow while she was in bed during the day, had many stains on the linens from poor washing and was next to the lobby so it was loud/disruptive to sleep; 3rd room had cockroaches (different type) on the floor during the day; 4th room the toaster did not work and most of the kitchenette was in poor shape. Front desk would move us after each issue (causing a big inconvenience), but did not apologize and seem to care that much. I had to pay $50 for a week of wi-fi that often had a poor signal or did not work. I complained to the desk twice and they did nothing, saying it's a 3rd party service (yet payment was to the hotel). Positives included the Bell men were very friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff was always working hard to keep the main areas and rooms clean, and it showed. Grounds were in good condition / location was great.
Wonderful place and team

I see that this will be review # 3621. I have actually been coming to this resort for twenty years. Since it has become my home away from home, I admit that I am not totally impartial. (We are actually here now to say goodbye to the staff). El Cid is closing this Saturday for what may be a year for a total makeover. I am not sure if it will remain the El Cid family of resorts, but I want to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff for all their excellent service over the years. My wife and I travel a lot, and I have never been more satisfied than with the personal service from the El Cid team here. Certainly, there are newer and nicer resorts, but my extended family and I couldn't have been happier to spend our vacations here at El Cid. The rooms have been excellent, the grounds immaculate, and the beach area and snorkeling are great too. Also, kudos to the restaurant staff for their wonderful meals, and evening shows and buffets. I'll close with this. I don't know who the GM is who now responds to these reviews. In the past it was Andres. I also want to thank them for their leadership and for their very thoughtful responses to almost everyone's review.
Small and relaxing

Small relaxing resort easy access from the ferry crossing from Cancun. We rented a car and spent a day driving around the island. Other beaches and places to eat, can’t get lost, it’s one big loop driving.
Great stay

We had a great stay at El Cid in April. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, particularly Ari on the front door. The rooms and pool/ beach area were very good with plenty of space to relax and the water around the hotel is so beautiful and clear! We found it really relaxing. We ate at the hotel restaurant once and would also recommend that. The restaurants around the hotel all seem to close around 4-5 once the cruise ships leave which is something to be aware of but downtown Cozumel is about a 10 minute taxi ride away with plenty of lively bars and food options too. We would recommend this hotel, particularly if you will have a car. Thanks for an amazing stay.
Great resort, but even greater people!

My family and I stopped here as part of our cruise trip - the resort had a very beautiful and relaxing environment, and a hell of a view! Just steps away from the busy street and nearby market, it immediately felt like a quiet getaway with as soon as you stepped into the lobby. We did the all inclusive and got right to activities, especially the snorkeling/pier diving. It didn't last long for me, however, because I unfortunately stepped on a sea urchin while I was trying to get ahold of my footing on the rocks by the pier. As soon as it happened the staff wasted no time in helping me get back to our ship, going so far as to wheelchair me all the way to the port, where the ship's team took care of me from there. As soon as I was (somewhat) recovered from my injury, I made my way back, and the staff welcomed me with great concern for my wellbeing, following up and making sure I was alright. They even gave us extra servings of nachos when I returned! And even better, they also took it a step further by sending out divers to get rid of the urchins while I was gone, to make sure that nobody would risk suffering an injury like mine. To Ari, Leo, and the other staff at El Cid La Ceiba, thank you very much for the help and accommodation you provided to us during our short visit. We hope to be back in the future!
