Mold in the walls and questionable fire safety/prevention

R D on Jun 02, 2024

Serious mold problem on the first floor (tiled room we stayed in 2022) and 3rd floor (carpet May 2024). It’s in their walls, you can see it coming out of the electrical outlets, at the back of the cabinets and on the framed artwork. I was hoping the 3rd floor would be better because I figured the 1st floor was susceptible to flooding, but I think the 3rd floor room was worse. To top it off our smoke alarm was very obviously not operational because the battery compartment was open & empty, there was no weather stripping at the bottom of the door allowing light & probably bugs, into the room. There was a strong smell of cat urine in one corner of the room near the head of the bed. One morning my husband and I went for an early walk while our teenagers were asleep. Housekeeping opened the door regardless of our “do not disturb” sign. My daughter quickly jumped up and closed & bolted the door after telling them not to come in. The front desk girl was incredibly rude when we arrived and paid for our 8 night stay. Overall the room felt grimy, even the shampoo/conditioner bottles they have bolted to the shower wall had mold/mildew growing around them. Finally, they notified us the day before the outage that our building’s water would be shut off for repairs-unacceptable. We will not be staying at the Sunshine Suites again regardless of it’s location and access to the Westin.

Great stay at a relaxing hotel

Ange0311 (Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom) on May 22, 2024

Just returned from a great 2 week stay at the Sunshine Suites. This is a great place for relaxing in its spacious gardens and given that most guests head on over to the crowded and expensive Westin you often find that you have the pool to yourself. The staff around the hotel and in reception were really nice, helpful and accommodating. The rooms were spacious and clean, yes they are a little tired in places but the other positives around the hotel and value for money far out weigh this minor point. Food wise I’d recommend the tacos at the Sunshine Grill and for the best happy hour on the island head to Legendz Bar, which is 2 minutes away.

Once again, simply excellent!

My wife and I returned last week from enjoying our 6th stay in the past many years and once again I'll repeat what I wrote previously....this property remains exactly as the numerous reviews on TripAdvisor have suggested over the years....easily the best value on Seven Mile Beach. Rooms, while in need of renovation which is coming in the months ahead, are spacious, clean and comfortable. As always, we appreciated having the kitchenette which we used daily to enjoy coffee, tea, boiled eggs and toasted bagels. The restaurant is inexpensive for Grand Cayman and excellent (we ate dinner on multiple days at the Sunshine Grill) and the staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating and the WiFi is excellent from the rooms to the public areas. Guests of the Sunshine Suites may readily use the beach chaise lounge chairs, towels, gym, spa, WiFi, etc. at the Westin Grand Cayman Resort (100 yards or 3 minute walk) and also charge any food/drinks from the beach to the restaurants/bars to their room at the Sunshine Suites. We took advantage of the Westin's amenities every day and they are a big part of the great value that is the Sunshine Suites. 7 Mile Beach continues to be one of the gems of the Caribbean. It remains one of the most beautiful in the world to enjoy walking, swimming (often with fish around you), snorkeling and, as I did every evening, standing in the water with a CayBrew Ironshore Bock beer in my hand watching the beautiful sunsets. To Jessica Kozaily, the GM, and her whole team, thanks again for delivering an excellent experience. And, needless to say, we hope to return sooner than later.

Great place to stay!

Janiepoo56 (sequim washington) on May 20, 2024

This property is a great spot to make your base while on 7 Mile Beach. While the property is not on the beach, you have full access to The Westin Resort right across the street. Short walk to get there. The Sunshine Suites have restaurant on site that had some of the best tacos we’ve ever had. Pool space is nice. Room could use a little updating but all and all would recommend.
