Not Impressed

Nicole D (Los Angeles, California) on Nov 09, 2024

We stay at many hotels around the world throughout the year, and this one, was unfortunately pretty underwhelming in comparison. After reading the very positive reviews, we decided to book this hotel about four months ago for our trip to Maui. The price for each of the rooms at the time was a very good deal, so we decided to jump on a King Sized Deluxe (as it was labeled) on a third-party booking site. Upon arrival, we were greeted in a lobby that was in severe disarray. Perhaps they are updating it? Maybe... but no one explained the mess or apologized -- it was just business as usual with men working with machinery, makeshift walls/desks, and the lobby store closed. We were given room a room on the first floor, and were pretty shocked when we entered. The room was nothing like the pictures on their front website page. First of all, because it was a room in the 100's, it's almost like a basement room. Little light was coming in, and the windows were covered with vegetation to try to cover the parking lot views only feet away. We went down and talked to the Front Desk to ask why the room is very different than pictures we had seen .... we were then told to our surprise that there are TWO different towers, one is super old and dark, and the other is brand new, bright, and modern. We had no idea. On the third party booking site, there were no pictures, just King Size room listed. Apparently the price difference between the two towers is only $40! But since we made the booking (4 months ago) each of the tower's prices went up significantly, and if we switched to the modern/new tower, we would have to pay the difference. I was kicking myself the entire trip, because for only $40 more at the time of booking, we could have had a MUCH better room and experience. The front desk was able to change us to a room on the 5th floor (still in the old tower) which was much brighter and had a more open feel. The room itself was quite large though, minus the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, the room was VERY small. In order to get in, you had to turn your body to be able to shut the door. The cleanliness was also questionable. We had to use Clorox wipes to wipe down the toilet and the shower, which had hair from the previous guest throughout it. The shower also had a 1990's motel vibe -- moldy, beaten tiles, and a ratty shower curtain. Also 50% of the towels that we used in the bathroom had other people's hairs stuck in them. The room itself was comfortable enough, the beds were soft, and we had a balcony overlooking a nearby hotel and parking lot. One night though, we were disgusted to have a cockroach crawl on the wall next to us by the desk. We were able to kill it, but the rest of the trip we zipped up all of our things, hid food... and worried that there were more in the room. The hotel has a pool area that is shared by the two towers. We visited it twice, and each time there was never a problem finding a place to sit. The public beach is located across the street. Just a suggestion, maybe the hotel can offer small beach chairs to rent/borrow that guests can carry across the street. They offer towels, but I think if there were chairs, people would opt to take them too. We had a rental car during our stay, and we never had an issue with parking. It's free, and there were always many spots to choose from. We had breakfast a couple times at the Kihei Caffe on the property. Everything was very good and tasty. A little pricey, but that is expected in Hawaii. The staff we met were all very friendly, including all of the housekeeping staff, who always supplied our room with plenty of free bottles of water each day. Overall, a bit of a disappointment. If you are booking this hotel make sure you book the new KAI Tower not the HOKU one like us. And just a suggestion... if there is going to be SUCH a vast difference in quality between the two different towers, then there needs to be a bigger difference in price to reflect that as well. The HOKU tower needs to be priced lower or majorly updated to go along with the price that is being charge.

Pleasant Surprise in thenMaui Coast

The Maui Coast Hotel Is a perfect little gem, just a two minute walk to the beach in Keihi. We stayed in one of the suites and even had a glimpse of the ocean. The room was Clean, comfortable And the staff was accommodating with any needs. We enjoyed a couple of nights at the pool bar, listening to live music and relaxing, relaxing after a beautiful day in the sun. I highly recommend this hotel If you’re looking for an economical stay that still makes you feel like you’re in a five star resort.

Awesome Hotel!

MikeNDeeNAz (Glendale, Arizona) on Nov 08, 2024

This hotel was AWESOME! Easy check in, stayed in the KAI Tower, very modern room, beds were comfortable with soft sheets (had standard sized pillows!), Round Table with Chair & Bench Seating, Refrigerator, Microwave, Keurig Coffee Maker, Large Safe in Drawer, Two Large Closets, Extra Blankets, Spacious Bathroom with Large Shower that has Body Wash, Shampoo & Conditioner & Large Vanity, Blow Dryer, Extra Towels. Hotel provided two water bottles that you could refill in the lobby downstairs. Each floor had a washer & dryer free of charge! Hotel has two large pools, baby pool, three hot tubs & bar area for drinks, plenty of lounge chairs & they provide chair covers and towels. Good beach within a short walking distance with stores and eateries all around. They have a restaurant on-site but we did not eat there. Plenty of parking spaces if you have a rental car. The Hotel Staff were phenomenal and friendly! Highly recommend this hotel, it was just a dream to stay at. We loved Maui the best out of the 3 Islands (Kauai & Oahu) we visited on this trip. When we come back to Maui, we will definitely stay at this hotel. A big thank you to all the staff at this hotel for making it a great stay there!
