Outstanding in every way.

My wife and I just had a great time at this beautiful hotel. We were lucky in that we arrived right after a windy, rainy January that eroded most of the nearby beaches. There was still some surf to get through each day in order to swim, but with care it was very doable. The Wailea Beach to the left/south of the hotel, near the Grand Wailea, is much bigger and a better beach for swimming then the two smaller beaches to the right/north (as you leave). We had a premium oceanview room and feel it was worth it. Every day we saw whales cavorting out front, and could hear their "songs" while swimming underwater. This is a seasonal event btw. The food was excellent, though normally quite expensive. To stretch your budget and still get very tasty food, try the happy hout at the Humble Market Kitchn, the main restaurant with food from Roy Yamaguchi. He is a very famous chef that owns over 30 restaurants worldwide and the food is uniformly outstanding. He also just opened a pizza food truck onsite. The breakfast buffet is $49 for adults, though you can order meals with large portions off the menu in the mid to high 20s. Or go to the in-hotel Starbucks. Another way to get meals, including takeout, at very reasonable prices, is to go to the Island Gourmet Market across the street from the hotel at the Shops of Wailea. All kinds of inexpensive options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also enjoyed our meals at Olivine at the Grand Wailea and Tommy Bahamas at the above Shops of Wailea. There is a very nice gym onsite with lots of equipment, weights, ellipticals and more. If you do not have a car, Lyft and Uber are options. Or hop on the bus for only $2 each way. We went to Kihei a couple times these ways. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Lane, a lovely young woman who is in charge of room service and also has a side travel business. What a delight! Also Aki at the front desk who was a HUGE help getting my cell service back on track.

Solid option in Wailea

bretr233 (Jefferson, Georgia) on Feb 13, 2024

We stayed here 5 nights and had a good time. Multiple pools and the adult pool is especially nice. Although we only paid for a partial ocean view room, we were practically ocean front with a great view and very close proximity to ocean. This was in one of the “Hales” and not the big tall structure. The hotel is very close to a small shopping center with some luxury brands but also mid level restaurants and shops snd grocery. This was very convenient. The rooms are clean and bed was great but they are not top of line. One sink not two, toilet in same room as shower, and chairs / couch not comfortable. The breakfast buffet is too expensive and so we either had a small breakfast there or went to the nearby market at the shopping center. I rate it a solid 4 but not a 5. Grounds are nice but not amazing. A couple areas for improvement. Outside porch which has beautiful view needs newer and more comfortable chairs. Also, at the adult pool, there are usually towels in all the chairs even though there is supposed to be a 45 minute limit on holding chairs when you are not there. We enjoyed our time there but once Lahaina is in better shape in a couple years we will return to the Hyatt at Kannapali where we have stayed before.

Special Trip - Special Resort

DoreenM160 (Loveland, Colorado) on Feb 09, 2024

This was our first stay in Wailea, and we definitely made the right choice for accommodations. We have previously stayed in Kaanapali, but decided to try South Maui. From the moment we drove into the resort, we knew it was someplace special. Check in with Brittney was efficient and pleasant - we were given information about the resort, provided with leis and juice and special chocolates to commemorate the reason for our visit which was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We also were given two drink tickets to use at any of the resorts bars. Because of my husband’s rheumatoid arthritis I had requested a location which would not require too much walking - and this request was accommodated easily. We used self parking which is an additional $42 per day. Our bags were delivered quickly to our oceanfront room - a gorgeous view and mere feet from the shoreline afforded us with many special moments on our lanai. The room was comfortable and the decor had a nice island theme without being overdone. There was plenty of drawer and closet space - including room to store our luggage out of site (also plenty of hangers??. There was a small sofa (sleeper) and side chair. The lanai included a table and two chairs (the chairs could have been more comfortable, but they served their purpose.) Fair warning - this is a huge resort. There are at least five pools, including two adults only and one super fun one with slides and all. The two pools near our building in Hale 2 were open to families. I couldn’t really tell you the hotel occupancy while we were there, but we never had a problem finding pool chairs which has not historically been the case anywhere else we’ve been. There is great pool service - and May made our pool time special. There are two nearby beaches on either ends of the resort - 5 to 10 minute walk in each direction. We did not spend any time on the beaches though I understand that recent strong south swells had somewhat eroded the beaches. Otherwise, the shoreline is rugged and rocky - really quite beautiful. We were lucky enough to see sea turtles each day from our lanai. Unfortunately, too many visitors get way too close to the turtles - some actually touching them. There is a sign telling folks to stay back 10 feet but I don’t think many folks saw the sign - might consider moving it or making it larger. Whales were bountiful and viewed from both our lanai and while around the pool. The landscaping around the WBR is beyond words - well maintained and gorgeous. Kudos to those tasked with maintaining its beauty. There are many things included in your resort fee - be sure to check out the variety of activities going on around the resort that are included for free. Also, two reusable water bottles are included - I appreciate the effort of reducing wasteful plastic water bottles. The resort also uses large shampoo, conditioner and shower gel containers instead of the tiny plastic bottles. I hope more places revert to this. The rooms are provided with paper/plastic disposable cups - we didn’t care for this. Though they are compostable, they also deteriorate quickly so many of them are required. I’m not sure why glasses aren’t used - and I’m sure there is a reason I’m not aware of. They also use bracelets which also open your room - we loved this!! We ate at the Kapa Bar and Grill and also Humble Kitchen. Hendrix at the Kapa was amazing, funny and so pleasant. We ate at Humble Kitchen for both breakfast and dinner and the food was fine. We also ordered room service (quick and food was hot) and also tried their new pizza truck. There are other options, including Starbucks which was a popular place in the morning. Every single employee we came in contact with was pleasant, kind and professional. WBR’s employees are truly their greatest asset. When we checked out, Larry came to help us with our luggage and he couldn’t have been nicer - even though one of my bags was super heavy. Check out was perfect and folio was correct. I can’t say enough good things about this place - and I can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a full service resort that is gorgeous. Mahalo to those at WBR that made our trip so special.

Beautiful spot for relaxation

Joan M on Feb 09, 2024

Loved our stay - 2 things to note: There’s a beautiful paved path along the ocean. Great for runners and walkers of which there were MANY. The path was so crowded that we could not walk it took away a lot of the charm of being on such a beautiful beach and ocean. There is a fun little pool for kids, with an awesome slide. You need to get there early if you want to have a lounging chair. Unfortunately, a number of people go out early and leave their towels on the chairs and then come back much later, after breakfast. The attendance say that they keep an eye on the chairs and after 45 minutes remove the towels so others can sit there. But we didn’t see that happen. The best pool for adults is the “” serenity pool“. It’s an absolutely beautiful spot with excellent poolside service. But you need to get there by 10 AM to get a spot! Again, there were lots of chairs that had towels on them with no people. But , most of the chairs were already filled with people. If the umbrellas can be up, (if it’s not windy) there’s great shade provided. And the pool attendance will move the extremely heavy base of the umbrella so that you get more shade, if you want. All the staff in the entire resort were absolutely terrific. There is a shopping area walking distance from the resort that has nice shops, and also very high-end shops and a delicious ice cream shop. And every day they have free events learn the ukulele, learn the hula, a jazz band, lei making. You’ll see the schedule posted on large posters at the shopping center.

I Highly recommend it!

worldcitizen22 (Long Branch, New Jersey) on Jan 24, 2024

Totally worth it. From the minute you arrive you’re greeted with a lei and local juices. The resort is gorgeous, it has lush and manicured gardens with exotic tropicals just like you imagine Hawaii. Perfect sunsets from the hotel. Restaurant Humble market kitchen with ocean views is delicious. Multiple pools. There’s no swimming beach right in front of the property, but you can do a short walk to the end of it to wailea beach, and the hotel will provide you with lounges and umbrellas. Rooms were very spacious. Service was courteous. Many amenities and fun activities are included for guests like yoga, Pilates, Hawaiian craft and music demonstrations and more. They offer luaus by the sunset every night. Our shower was broken, and humble kitchen system wasn’t able to do a room charge. That’s why it’s a 4 star and not 5. Otherwise our stay was perfect, and despite the couple issues I highly recommend it! You’ll have the best time!
