First do NOT pay any extra for a king room with a pool view. The design is just the worst. We had two rooms booked a king room with the pool view and a double room with the pool view. Both rooms have angled sliding doors that face out to the pool and beach. The double room is great, you can see the pool and even some of the beach from the bed and from the seating area. The king room is the complete opposite. The bed faces the door from an angle so you see other balconies with their towels and clothes drying and the seating area faces the tv and dresser completely. To have a view you can either sit on the dresser (who planned this?) or move the desk chair next to the dresser. Additionally, in the double room, traditional beds and nightstands. In the king room the bed is on a platform that pushes it So that your head is on the pillow about 28 inches from the wall. However, the nightstands are still anchored to the wall. This means that if you need to see the clock, reach for your phone or the house phone, reach the light switch or anything on the nightstand you need to get OUT of bed and turn around to reach behind you-and the clock is anchored so it cannot be moved to the dresser, what a pain!
We have just finished stays at 2 other Marriott properties on the islands and this has been the least welcoming and flexible for activities. There is a QR code to sign up for activities however more than half are full for the next 5-6 days, again no problems, at all, like this even at the very large Ko’Olina.
As Platinum members we were given our options of points, breakfast, credits etc. at the other properties. Here, nothing, no mention of it. When we went to breakfast to the advertised “Platinum pricing” we were told we should have received vouchers upon check in. There was no line when we went to check in, as it was late, so I do not know why we were not given this information.
This was the final stay of our once in a lifetime trip to the islands, where we wanted to relax and just enjoy a resort before our 2 day trip home. I certainly hope it gets better. If I knew then what I knew now, I probably would have ended at the Courtyard King Kamehameha (where we were absolutely spoiled) or the very welcoming Ko’Olina Resort.
Excellent Mid-Range Marriott Vacation Resort with a few Recommendations

The Marriott vacation club at Waikoloa provides the kind of experience that someone would expect any mid range vacation property offered through Marriott. Service was very high-quality, the prices were moderate to high, and the grounds were very well-maintained.
The interior of the hotel showed some where in tear on the carpet and walls, and some minor improvements, such as the provision of more freshwater rinse stations between the beach in the hotel, as well as better access to parking with more organized signage, could make this hotel much more organized, and frankly, keep some sand off the interior property.
The location was excellent, although the surrounding amenities and store availabilities were somewhat boutique and thereby limited for longer stays or for practical, alternative food or emergency supply requirements. Access to the airport in traffic to this resort was excellent: even the configuration of the recreational areas made it easy to enjoy the property when the ocean was a bit angrier, or storms appeared over the island.
We will definitely return to this resort, and bring our friends and family here!
