Wonderful experience

richardpJ6036EI (Marietta, Georgia) on Sep 15, 2023

I read some of the lower reviews for this hotel, and when I arrived for my 5 day stay I was a bit nervous what the experience would be. I do agree with others that the hotel overall could use some updates, but our room was very clean and a good size, the beds were wonderful, the Wifi was very good, the staff were very nice throughout the hotel, and overall we just loved this property. We did not get our room cleaned during our stay, but our housekeeper Fe worked into the evening every day, but would always greet us and make sure we had what we needed. My wife (pretty tough critic) was impressed with the taste of the free morning coffee, and she could not get over the excellent and well prepared breakfasts. The location, right next to the beach park was wonderful. The park, which is about a 2 - 3 minute walk from the hotel room, has an ocean pool, where you can swim and there are tons of fish. Also being next to the park and the water, the hotel just has a very natural, peaceful feel that I personally soaked up. A little bonus was the free washer and dryer for guests on each floor. I guess if you are still reading, I would say this. If you like the typical new "resort" with a lot going on, "there is something going somewhere close type of environment", then this is probably NOT the place for you. Although it has occasional events (Fire show), and the Tiki bar which is fairly busy, it to me a central location which is more of a place to relax and unwind. Good Luck in your travels.

Would not return

Upon check in we were sent to another hotel (after a 20 hour travel day) bc the hotel had overbooked. We were sent to a hotel without an elevator, had to climb 3 flights of stairs w 8 bags, and were given a room with one bed - we had four in our party. We we charged in full by the Hilton three days prior to arrival, and also charged twice by the secondary hotel. These fees still have not been refunded two weeks later. The following day we were able to check into the Hilton. We were not compensated with any kind of meal or drink vouchers. This hotel is completely over staffed and of the staff who is there, about 25% of them smile and are kind. One of our rooms was damp to the point that our clothes stored inside the dresser became damp. The AC worked at about 10% capacity at best. We expected much more from a Hilton property and would not stay here again.

Old School Kauai!

CaliMom64 (Morgan Hill, California) on Sep 07, 2023

This is a Hilton Garden Inn, it is not the Hyatt, and that’s ok! I stayed at both, and frankly I gave the Hilton more stars. Now, to be honest, I stayed at the Hilton with points so I had zero expectations and just needed a place for three days after Alaska Airlines cancelled my direct flight, another story. I am 63 years old, but active and not too grumpy, and I remember going to Coco Palms across the street for macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup when I was a kid. This hotel reminds me of those days, the old Kauai, back in the day! There are no fancy water slides, but some beautiful old school ponds and landscaping and small swimming pools. The tiki bar has pretty terrible food, but after a couple Mai Tai’s it’s fine and a fun vibe. It’s not cheap, the drinks were the same price as the Hyatt believe it or not, but the location can’t be beat. I was thinking that anyone would be thrilled with this little Hilton. Our room was clean, seemed newly renovated and peaceful. We had a nice view of the smaller pool and mountains. I especially loved having the ice machine and water station right outside my room to fill up my water bottle constantly! Also enjoyed the Kurig coffeemaker every morning. If you have young children, It’s so nice to be able to walk down to Lydgate Park, teach them how to snorkel, play on the playgrounds and appreciate the beauty of Kauai. Young people, old people, it really doesn’t matter, if you have the right attitude, you will love this place, and frankly the whole area nearby as well. Visit the food trucks and small businesses, rent a bike and ride the trail, so many things to do and see here, there never is enough time! I prefer this area to Poipu, less crowds, less dressing up for expensive restaurants, slower pace in general. Enjoy!

Great location

Terrie L (Los Angeles, California) on Sep 05, 2023

Great location but the shabbiness of the dirty and falling apart carpeting in the halls and in the rooms made it feel like you were definitely not getting your moneys worth. But the staff makes up for everything. They are great. The food was wonderful, especially the breakfast it’s a great place for families, but they definitely need more lounge chairs around the pool and they need to replace the carpeting with laminate flooring

Watch out for Portuguese man o war in the waters!

Don D on Sep 01, 2023

Ok, I had to write this review even though we didn't stay at the Hilton. We visited Lydgate Beech in behind the Hilton for a day. This was simply the best beech we had experienced out of almost a dozen spots in Poipu Kauai and Big Island throughout out vacation. We couldn't figure out why the beech was completely deserted, until the very end. My daughter got stung by something and was in severe pain. We rushed her out of the beech to find a hospital. Luckily we stopped at the Hilton to get help and an employee named Curt came to the rescue. He examined that it was very likely a Portuguese Man O'War (hadn't heard of it before and there were no warning signs anywhere). The sting pain would dissipate within 30minutes and that was it. But Curt is our hero for coming out and helping us.
