Great spot

Best hotel allowing pets I've ever encountered. People with their dogs are so happy. Hotel itself is older but has character and a wonderful layout. Rooms are big and well-furnished. Firepit terraces so comfortable. The staff was terrific and I love the surrounding area. Back Bay, Corona Del Mar close by. Great shopping and restaurants close by.
Very dated rooms

We stayed at this property for 1 night as a family of 4. The front desk staff was friendly and so were all the housekeepers who were walking around - they all greeted and smiled. The property common grounds are manicured and very family friendly. Kids had a great time with the large lawn games (chess and shuffleboard). The lobby and lounge areas were very pretty and comfortable to hang out in while waiting for our room to be ready. However the room was very poorly maintained and a definite disappointment. We were in the Balboa building, with 2 double beds. Dirty old carpeting - one of the beds was about 6 inches from the wall, making it much too narrow to fit a vacuum which would explain why there were crumbs there. So gross. The rest of the furniture was fine but also old. The beds were fine linens were nothing special but looked clean. The bathroom was a big let-down. Mold around the toilet, around the shower walls, peeling wall paper, rusty door hinges, old filthy door. Towels were ok but they didn’t match - some where fluffy and new some were old and thin, not very soft. Also one had gross hair on it. These all seem to have such easy fixes to clean up the appearance I’m surprised Hyatt isn’t better at maintaining their rooms. Overall just not what you’d expect at a Hyatt property in a high end beach town. If you are going for an event it’s fine, property is in a great location near several points of interest. But I wouldn’t recommend it otherwise unless there are renovated rooms
Close to all things Orange County…

Great location, inviting lobby area. Pool is great if you are traveling with children. Rooms are comfy and clean. My favorite is the lounge next to the lobby, large fireplace to sit and have a drink or grab morning coffee. The lounge has a few nooks to be able to feel intimate and cozy or have a group. They also have a screening area if you want to cheer your favorite team on. It’s football season after all.
Beware extra mandatory charges and old stale rooms.

Beware of the advertised price. This location will add, after the fact, a mandatory $40 + tax a day resort fee, plus a mandatory $40 + tax a day self parking fee or a mandatory $50 + tax a day valet fee (plus tips); plus extra fees and taxes for either early check-in or early check-out. So, expect another $90 to $150 a day to be added to the price you are seeing advertised. In addition - this resort, the building and rooms are all very old and dated. My wife and I are both in our mid-sixties and the lady at the registration desk intentionally gave us a room in the building farthest from the self parking lot, on the second floor where there are no elevators (ie-lugging bags up stairs), in a room that had not been opened in ages - on opening the door we were hit with a hot warm blast of rancid air. Now you might think that we are miserable people who got what they deserved (this complaining review), but we travel often and are polite to everyone we deal with, including the young lady that assigned us to that room. And no, we shouldn't have to run around back and forth to registration asking for different rooms. She knew exactly the situation she was putting us in. In addition, watch your credit card for extra charges. I had pre-paid our room for three nights. We just got home and now there are five additional charges totaling over $900 from this resort that are pending on my credit card, that I will have to waste time calling them about. One of the worst hotels and travel experiences ever.
Average Property!

Stayed here for 1 night with my family before heading to Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach and my stay was below average partially because of the condition of the property and also non empathetic staff. I was given wrong information on multiple occasions. On the positive side the property's location is excellent and breakfast was great. Noah at the restaurant was amazing!
