Marriott Anaheim sure doesn't understand their own Core Values

Drew T on May 06, 2025

I wish I could give 0 Stars. If Marriott truly believes in its core values—Put People First, Act with Integrity, Pursue Excellence, and Embrace Change then someone needs to explain what went wrong at their Anaheim Convention Center location May 2–4. Because this experience was the exact opposite. We were onsite for a large dance competition, our second time here this year. While the initial logistical challenges may not have been entirely Marriott’s fault, the way their team handled the situation turned an already difficult weekend into an unnecessarily chaotic and frustrating experience. Due to late room assignments (not Marriott’s fault), we were placed in ballrooms at the opposite end of the building from the loading docks. We attempted to unload our heavy props near the correct rooms, only to be immediately told to move because it was a fire lane. Fair enough, except another studio was actively unloading in the same spot, and no one stopped them. When we raised safety concerns (including the very real danger of a prop falling in a crowded area), a Marriott security guard snapped back, “They wouldn’t be suing us, they’d be suing you.” That’s Marriott’s definition of Put People First? Then came the interaction with the valet supervisor, easily the most unprofessional encounter I have ever experienced. He attempted to charge our team for 11 parking spots, even though several of those spaces were occupied by trailers and containers that weren’t ours (we only took up 3 spots). When we pointed this out, he responded, “Why does it matter? You’re not paying for it anyway., the competition is.” The arrogance was astonishing. “Pursue Excellence” has apparently been replaced with “Pursue Profit.” And to top it off: my parent's truck, parked in the designated oversized vehicle lot (after being charged $57), was vandalized. Kids were throwing rocks and dirt from the roof, one even hit my dad in the head. When my parents returned, their windshield was shattered. They have been told it’s “being escalated,” but that was days ago, and now? They just learned Marriott’s idea of “resolving” this is to offer to pay only the insurance deductible and push the rest of the responsibility onto us. Let me be very clear: my parent's vehicle was damaged on Marriott’s property due to their failure to secure the premises, and they want to wash their hands of it by letting our insurance company clean up the mess. That’s not Acting with Integrity, that’s shirking accountability. It's corporate cowardice dressed up as procedure. This isn’t a one-off frustration. It was a breakdown of leadership, professionalism, and basic customer care. We don’t expect perfection, but we do expect a Marriott-managed venue to at least try to align with its own values. We’re scheduled to return to this venue for one final competition in just a few weeks. At this point, it’s hard to look forward to that experience given how this last weekend played out, but we hope Marriott takes this feedback seriously and seizes the opportunity to demonstrate that they truly do uphold the values they promote.

Everything You Want in a Hotel Stay!

Wander587380 on May 03, 2025

I am sitting in the Anaheim Marriott breakfast restaurant right now, my last morning here, and scratching my head at the negative reviews. We have had a stellar experience at this clean/friendly/professional/well located hotel. We came in for a wedding, but wanted to see the Disney Fireworks from outside the park. It was an easy walk to Downtown Disney and to the Park. The room was large, comfortable, and spotlessly clean (my #1 criterion). When we woke up on day two, my husband did notice an odor. The manager, Haley, was up in our room in a heartbeat, got us a better room on a higher level, and stayed with us until the bellhop had delivered all of our luggage to the better room. This room again was clean and comfortable. We were able to pay approximately $200 per night for our room here. The breakfast staff is SO friendly and professional. We valet parked our car (yes, pricey!) and had to get in and out multiple times for wedding events. The car was always right there because everything here is so well staffed. I would absolutely choose this hotel again when I come to Anaheim. Highly recommend.

The fire alarm goes off every time someone showers in the room

michellecL6869SF (Fullerton, California) on Apr 26, 2025

This hotel is horrible. It looks nice by looks, but the management and the system is not as good as it looks. We stayed at this hotel for a weekend, and every time we showered, a loud fire alarm went off. There was no call or announcement from the hotel on what was going on. After going through two fire alarms, we called the front desk, and the front desk associate asked us if we took a shower with the bathroom door closed. I said yes, and she said that’s the reason why it went off. She said the steam from the shower caused the fire alarm to go off and said this is a known problem and there is nothing the hotel can do. If there is a problem with a room, why would the hotel be renting the room out to a customer? It is wrong of Marriott to be charging the customer for a room where there is a malfunction with the safety alarm system. Shame on you, Marriott

Abysmal

I paid $800 a night for a room at the Marriott. This is because the Hilton inexplicably cancelled my reservation, (made in December), one night before I was scheduled to arrive. Given the current rate on Tripadvisor is $153 per night, this would seem excessive, but for that kind of money, my room should be akin to the presidential suite, right? The reason I had no choice, (and the Marriott knew this), was that there was a trade show at the Anaheim convention center and the city was booked, so I had little choice but to pay this ridiculous fee or not attend the trade show. I was also traveling with 4 coworkers that were all staying at the Hilton. Both hotels are adjacent to the Anaheim convention center. For my $800 I was put in the “presidential suite” adjacent to a stairwell with a metal stairway. Two of the three nights I was repeatedly awakened by people loudly moving up and down those metal stairs. On the nights I was able to fall asleep, thanks to a lack of stairwell noises, there was the constant gathering of people outside my window to chat until all hours of the night. The stairwell leads to an entrance, and that entrance was a favorite place for people to gather, smoke, drink and talk loudly. Once the stairwell traffic subsided, and the smokers and drinkers went to their rooms, it was possible to get some sleep. But wait, there’s more. The harmonious sounds of the pressure washer woke me up around 5:30 AM every morning. That entrance had to be cleaned very early in the morning, and pressure washing is the cleaning method of choice. Even better was when there were two workers out there during the pressure washing. They had to yell to each other in order to be heard above the noise of the pressure washer. My first morning at the Marriott, I tried to jump on the network to get some work done before the show started. Since the Marriott staff wasn’t permitting me to sleep, why not try to be productive? I was unable to log on as I have done hundreds of times in other hotels. I called down to the desk and was informed that the Marriott charges $18 per day for internet access when they are hosting a convention. Apparently, my $800 per night just wasn’t enough to cover the cost of internet too. Overall, there is nothing positive to say about the Marriott. It was a horrible, obscenely overpriced experience.
