I don't know when the 4 star rating were given, however this in NOT a 4 star hotel or resort. The location was great, the beach was kept clean and the waters were great however not the rooms. First night the toilet overflowed, used the phone to contact the front desk and all lines were busy, including housekeeping. They sent a maintenance individual over and he just flushed the toilet and walked away. The next day this happened twice, results were a cracked tank, the fix putting towels down around the toilet! The room looked ok as long as you didn't need to go out on the patio, the doors didn't open and were no longer attached to the frame. Staff were very friendly but very few spoke English, making it hard to explain the problems and getting another room. The food was hit and miss, most times it was ok, nothing to brag about. Selections were ok. I would never recommend this resort to any of my friends and family, unless I never wanted to speak with them again!

Good afternoon, my husband and I stayed at your resort from February 11 to the 25. Upon departing, our housekeeper handed us a business card, I'll sure she thought that it would be to provide feedback about her exceptional care. Instead when I used the QR code, I found that it was the LinkedIn profile for the resort. How absolutely disappointing. But I believe that she needs to be recognized despite the fact that she didn't understand the purpose of the card. The woman I speak of is Griselda a very important part to our vacation as well as your team. She was kind, thoughtful, deeply caring as well as a very hard worker. My husband and I were both ill and she was there for us. I don't know how we would have managed without her. Because we were ill and spent 75% of our vacation on our balcony, she made sure to see that we were supplied with everything that would make our stay more pleasant. Despite the condition that we were in, she went about her job without complaint. Please see that this woman receives the recognition that she deserves. Bomb Bomb is a wonderful entertainment staff member. He engages the guests in many activities, including water aerobics, pool side games and beach games. He was amazing as Big Momma on Independence Day. Barbara is a pleasant server and staff member at the beach restaurant.

The Marien Resort Puerto Plata....an honest review. We arrived on Sunday evening and have enjoyed our stay so far. The Sports Bar in the lobby was a blast and all the other areas pool bar and snack bar have been great! The resort itself is slightly dated but very CLEAN...I can honestly say the staff here take pride in the cleanliness so absolutely no complaints. Water pressure is great and we have always had hot water. There have been a few power outages but only lasted for a few minutes. The pool area is gorgeous and has a great vibe! Very clean however you do need to be up by 6 to 630 if you want to get chairs under an umbrella...there are lots of loungers but not a lot of umbrellas. There is no swim up bar but the pool bar has great service and is very quick! IF YOU ARE BEACH PEOPLE DO NOT COME HERE! THE WATER AND BEACH ARE DISGUSTING! There is a run off of pure garbage and sewage straight into the ocean and used maxi pads floating in the water. Broken glass on the beach and they do not clean it as it is a public beach. VERY DISAPPOINTING AND A DEAL BREAKER FOR US. If you like a pool vacation definitely come here as everything else is amazing! We have eaten at the buffet and there is a lot of selection everything has been warm and for what we chose to eat it's very good. YES THERE ARE CATS ....BUT THEY Don't BOTHER ANYONE. Our favourite Al le carte has been the Mexican very good ..the Mediterranean was also very good we have not tried the Brazilian but everyone said it is also very good. There were sales tables set up last night outside of the buffet...these guys were so aggressive and so pushy I literally yelled at a guy as he shoved a bracelet on my arm and said 20.00 I said I have no more money take it off he said no go to your room and bring me the money...I yelled take this off my arm now and he did so very aggressively so my advice is to just walk away!!! Very uncomfortable and they were even yelling at eachother just really bad! This was a budget friendly choice for us and we have been very happy to this point. Again not a beach vacation this is definitely a poolside holiday!
