Excellent staff and the resort gives you more than I expected. Excellent food. Close to the caves (2km).

Basically, we had a pleasant time, a few issues which could have been easily corrected in our view. Our toilet had to be flushed with a bucket of water. We reported it at least 5 times and they sent an employee with a plunger twice and said they would change the toilet but nothing every happened. I suggested leaving the plunger, they said no. They stated (pictures web site)that refreshments including snacks and beer would be in the fridge, there was nothing at anytime, I asked one of the concierges and he said they don't do that. The fridge is an electric cooler, not a real fridge. They only have one bar and then a poolside pop up bar for 305 rooms and virtually all the time we had to line up. Staff was friendly and room maid service was fine. I needed both hands to slide open the balcony door, I am 6' 225 pounds so someone smaller than myself would have a real struggle. 3 A la carte restaurants, the Mexican was the biggest surprise and the food was delicious. The other two were OK. We have stayed at Viva in Playa Del Carmen, it was better than this one. I should have paid another couple hundred for another property.

This resort is just OK. That said, the employees and location are fabulous. The rooms are very tight, but the beds and linens are nice. The water pressure is super-low. There's only one pool, which was nice. The beach is gorgeous - clear, clean water with great sand. However the water is extremely rough, so if you're looking for nice, calm water - this is not the place for you. The Animation is sporadic and uninspired and, despite the video, there are no nighttime activities, much less parties on the beach. Cabarete is an amazing place - the beach is unforgettable and it was nice to be able to safely walk into town along the beach (however, the beach vendors get tiresome very fast). The buffet was OK, the Mexican and Italian a la carte menus were good.
