hey. i (adult) traveled with my mom and a 1 year old baby. we stayed in an ocean view suite? i think. it was more of a pool view tbh. the room had a mini fridge, a sort of vanity? two beds with lamps on the sides (for reading I’m guessing, but they’re too bright on one side to leave on while the other guest sleeps). there was also a television but the quality was weird so I didn’t bother watching it. it’s important to note i spent most of my time in my room on the balcony reading because the baby we’re traveling with is very fussy while we’re at the pool (and i didn’t bring a friend, plus didn’t wanna be alone at the pool), so my experience might be different from others. pros - - water in the pool is cool, not cold or hot. beach is clean - small resort, less people, more relaxed experience = very quiet - staff were all very kind and welcoming (though note that they might have been more comfortable with my family because we are dominican and speak fluent spanish) - baby friendly. they offer cribs for rooms if needed as well as high chairs at the dining buffet. there is a children’s pool, and the main pool has plenty of elevated spaces that you can sit on with a child - supermarket across the street if you need anything. yes, you can exchange dollars for pesos here. - if you’re worried about being hot, don’t be. air conditioning works overtime here and rooms are actually very very cold, at least in my room. - entertainment games set up by staff during the day - rooms are a good size, we stayed in one of the 2000s - cats!!! cons - - barely any lounge chairs in beach to accommodate the amount of people that go there so finding a place to keep your things if you’re in a larger group will be hard (i think there is a half of the beach that is closed off? there were more seats there) - the water gets way too hot in the shower, very difficult to find a good in between - shower door doesn’t close all the way so it gets soaked in there - bathroom toilets don’t have a very strong flush - to add on to that, the public restroom in their main building did not have working plumbing for their toilets when i first showed up - bed sheets were dirty when we got to our room? like there were visible stains. that’s really bad do they not wash the sheets properly? - in my experience, the wifi you get is extremely slow and i was frequently disconnected from it - food is okay, limited selection and it can get very busy in the buffet so you might struggle finding a seat - piña coladas weren’t very good :( - shampoo and conditioner is combined in the showers rather than being a separate thing? i really didn’t like that - despite the fact this resort is obviously for families, it’s VERY smoker friendly. there was a strong cigarette smell everywhere i went. not fun. - male staff like to stare. - my keycard stopped working twice. once per day. the final day, we were completely locked out of the room because the key reader battery died? technician went and fixed it pretty quickly, but annoying nonetheless. - i stayed in the beach once, and tried reading on a lounge chair. i was there for all of maybe 30 minutes, and 15 minutes in we were approached 3 times. once by a man trying to sell us bracelets/anklets, then by a woman trying to convince us to have our hair braided, and finally once more by a woman offering massages. i was driven to literal insanity as my mother caved and gave me her screaming velcro baby to get a “trial” massage that she was still charged for. all in all, this resort was a thousand times better several years ago when i came here. i was able to write this entire review the 2nd day of my stay lol.

Some of the staff members shouldn’t be working

Orlando H on Jul 15, 2024

My wife’s and I experiencia was not a good one y was kind of terrible, first when we got to the hotel there were no one to recibe my bag or even where to park, 20 min had passed and I had to go to the lobby to get people to come and help me. Second when we were going to park, they send us to a dirt road parking space, that had water buildup. There were no security or cameras. When we finally get to do the check in our reservation were made for the day before, but we had the receipt the said the right day, and thanks to one person that help us we could stay, but, the next day we had to go to the lobby to change the date. All the restaurant were closed because there was a weeding in one of them, so we had to eat from the buffet, that it wasn’t that great. Drinks not good at all. Beer warm. Sodas, juices and ice were always missing. Dirty plates, cooks would dry there sweat with paper towels and grab cookware with the same paper towel, They are people with attitude at the lobby, that shouldn’t be there, some security that just won’t help, to clarify no every employee y bad but some should be out, please reconsider, going here to this hotel, it should be better but it’s not. Pool watcher didn’t have that human touch to speak with the guests, always shouting, except if the person was not native to the country. Something that bothered me was the lack of attention and empathy the have towards people, called like 3-4 times at the lobby for information and they would respond with attitude, like if I was there for free o asking a favor to stay. And another fun fact staff members always asking when was our check-out date , like saying when a you leaving us alone. Another disturbing site was that some waiter would give alcoholic drinks to other staff members in front of the guess, this is unprofessional. Chefs would be in the bar area and near the pool at night, outside of their working areas. House keeping was always polite and kind, always attentive and with great manners. Some waiters at the buffet were king and good mannered.

Viva Tangerine Animacion Team is Amazing!

Cheska J on Jul 06, 2024

This is a great hotel with amazing staff in every area! They make you feel like family and keep you entertained all day with fun activities that never seem to end. Chelo keeps it all running smoothly with humour and friendliness; Zania (the only Canadian), is everywhere all the time with her boundless energy, engaging guests of all ages and interests (in English and French, a little Spanish too!) so we don’t miss out on any of the fun and so we have a friend to talk to - very sweet girl!; Capuccino keeps the water sports lively and will take you out sailing, teach you and make sure you have fun; Nordy makes great tasting, pretty coffee; Elizabeth has all your drink needs covered and makes a great blue lagoon and sex on the beach; Eduardo will always take care of you in the restaurant with a smile; Black Panther keeps everyone safe on the beach, especially when it’s crowded with kite surfers; Coyote and Sombra will get you dancing at night and the entire animacion team will keep you entertained with their lively night shows. They really give it and Lava Girl is so much fun to watch! Make sure you don’t miss Alice, Temptation and Zania on the hoop, silks and trapeze too. They are beautiful to watch. So many great things to say about this hotel and the people who work there! They made our vacation!!!

Cabarete, Dominican Republic

Visited this hotel in May 2024. Upon arriving to this hotel, it did seem a little bit dated, but we were quite pleased with the fact that we were upgraded to an ocean view room. It is a smaller hotel That is about 40 minutes outside of the City of Puerto Plata. There isn’t much to do in the area besides a few restaurants down the beach. The beaches, beautiful, but you cannot always swim in it as it is a beach known for kite surfing. Quite interesting to watch indeed. Our room was adequate and upon asking for extra towels and water every day we were accommodated. The power did go out twice during our stay but only for a brief.. We also have brown toilet water a couple of days in our stay. Food: breakfast was breakfast and we got by with an omelet or pancakes every day. Lunch and dinner we were not very impressed with us. I do want to state that I travel to resorts quite often and I do not expect North American cuisine and I am not picky. But the luncheon dinner buffet at this hotel does require some work. Not very many options, what is there is repetitive and just seems like it was thrown together. What did save us? Is the snack bar Which provided mediocre burger and fries. We ended up booking restaurants every night for dinner and those were reasonably good for a resort. I would definitely recommend having another bar as the lineup at the bar outside was always long and sometimes there was only one person working. And I travelled in low season so I can’t imagine what it’s like during high season. Service/entertainment: this was the best part of our trip. Everyone here worked really hard at both cleaning, serving, and the entertainment team was outstanding. They worked super hard. The trip was nice, but not sure I would stay at this resort again. I did stay many years ago at the one in Playa, Del Carmen and that seemed a little better. But I have not been there in a while so I cannot comment.
