Cannot fault this hotel......

U9799ETnicolap (Swindon, United Kingdom) on May 06, 2026

We recently visited the Iberostar Waves Dominicana hotel, family of 4 consisting of 2 adults and 2 children aged 14 & 12....... we could not fault this hotel from the time we checked in to the time we sadly had to leave. We choose the Dominicana but you can use all facilities that are located within the sister hotel Iberostar Waves Punta Cana, same applies vice versa as well...it's technically 1 hotel with 2 wings of rooms. We had a family room which consisted of 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, both children had a double bed along with ample hanging space was available in both of the bedrooms, minibar was frequently restocked and glass bottles were supplied which could be easily filled up at the water filling stations situated along the corridors. We had a pool view room but could also hear the sea lapping up on the beach, air conditioning also worked well. Reservations were easily available via the Customer Service Desk located in the reception are for the themed restaurants that are on offer, reservations only need to be made at the Italian, Asian, Mexican and French.....just be flexible on dates / times and you will get a table no problem.....you can also make more than 1 reservation at each restaurant for the duration of your stay. No need to wear long trousers, smart shorts and shirt are perfectly acceptable. The food in the main restaurant was excellent, there was always plenty of variety on offer......there was also a different theme each night, if you love puddings then you won't be disappointed! There was also a couple of 1st come 1st serve restaurants on offer, we only visited the Smokehouse which is located next to the beach.....excellent food although they could have done with more serving staff..... A must is a visit to the ice cream bar located by the Star Prestige beach area.....absolutely delicious ice cream with some unusual flavours on offer. The beach was absolutely stunning......plenty of sunbeds and parasols, along with a mile or 2 of golden sand, perfect for just taking in the views out to sea or a gentle stroll along the beach after a spot of lunch. There are sellers on the beach but if you just say ' no thank you' they leave you alone and get on with their day. The pool area was extensive with daytime activities available should you wish to partake or you can just sit on the side with a refreshing drink and just watch it all. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols also available round the pool, pool towels are also available and can be replaced daily or as you wish. Pool bar had a wide variety of drinks on offer and the staff were more than willing to make anything you requested.....I highly recommend a cheeky monkey although they can be quite sickly after the 2nd one! The night time entertainment was a bit hit and miss, the magic show and the acrobat show is a must......... the others you will have to make up your own mind, the only thing that I would say is that the shows don't start until 9.30pm and normally last about an hour....the kids entertainment finishes at 8.30pm so there is an hour of limbo where you aren't really sure what to do......could be tricky if you have younger aged children. If you can find fault with this hotel, I'm not really sure what you are looking for in a hotel.......we will definitely be returning at some point but need to go back to work 1st to earn some money to pay for the return visit!

Girls trip

Our room overlooked the garden area which was well kept and beautiful. The atmosphere was very peaceful and relaxing but if you wanted excitement, music, dancing there was plenty of that as well. Pool was refreshing and not overly crowded. Plenty of available loungers pool and beach side. Or you can just sit and people watch

It did not disappoint!!

We just got back from spending 7 nights at this hotel and it did not disappoint! The hotel is beautiful, our room was perfect...no issues and the balcony had amazing view. The cleaning staff worked very hard at keeping our room clean and stocked. We tipped them every day and gave a little note of appreciation with it. The staff is really really friendly here. They all greeted us with joy as they walked by and went out of their way to help us if we had an issue. A couple of them were grumpy but we figured they had a bad day. We really appreciated that they were not pushy about meeting for breakfast with a rep to hear about their "time share" pitch. They accepted our "not interested" pretty well. This was also the case with the vendors who had items for sale in their entertainment areas at night. They were not pushy which is almost unheard of at other hotels. The nightly entertainment was pretty good but wished they started earlier. The restaurants had great food and were very clean with a variety of food each day. And then there is the beach! WOW! Amazing white sand, hardly any seaweed and miles of beach to walk and enjoy. Loved watching the sunrise in the mornings. We are hoping to return some day with our children and friends next time.

Good and not so good.

My husband and I booked a week at the Iberostar Dominicana to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. This was our 4th time at this resort, but we haven’t been here for about 12 years. There are definitely things that have changed. They have made some nice upgrades to the resort. The bars on the beach are much nicer, the quality of alcohol they serve is better, and not having to have reservations for every restaurant is nice. It would be nice to have some more beer choices. The beach and pools are always beautiful. I still say the amount of chairs and palapa’s are better than other resorts. Now what we didn’t like. We were greeted by Felix when we arrived. He introduced himself as our concierge and put his phone number in my phone. We asked about making a dinner reservation and he said we had to come down at 10 am and he would do that for us. We have been there since they started the upgraded sections so we knew it was a sales pitch to buy into that and we’re not going to fall for it. At 9:30 I messaged him and told him we were enjoying the beach and wouldn’t be coming at 10. He was less than pleased when we refused to come. I asked about the dinner reservations and he told me I could take care of that myself in the lobby. I continued to inquire as to why he couldn’t still take care of that and a short time later I had a notification that we had a reservation at the French restaurant in a few days. I double checked the date the following day and decided to keep the reservation even though we didn’t want one for the French restaurant. When I logged into my app an hour before our reservation it was not there. We were pretty sure he then cancelled it but we decided to go anyway. He did in fact cancel it. We ended up going to the Japanese which said it didn’t need a reservation on the app, but were told when we got there we had to have one. They did find us a table for two because the app was incorrect. Unfortunately we left after one bite. It used to be fantastic so that was disappointing. We ate at the Smokehouse and Latin and both were good. We have always loved the food, but this time everything was cold and things that should have been cold were not. We still found plenty to eat and the omelettes in the morning were fantastic and the sweet lady making them made our day with her infectious smile. Overall it was obvious we were being treated differently because of our wristbands and they gravitated towards the Spanish speaking and higher teared members. It was never like that before. It wouldn’t keep me from going back because this place holds a special place in our hearts. We were pressured several times throughout the week to come to the breakfast and had to hold our ground with a firm no. Overall we had a fantastic time and we finally found Juana in the bar next to the shows. She is the sweetest cocktail waitress ever and made us feel so welcome. We are already planning a return trip but would like to try the Bavaro next time.
