Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Money

Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Money I would not recommend staying at Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The rooms were not clean upon arrival, and even after multiple requests, housekeeping did not properly address the issue. Service throughout the resort was frustrating—staff often behaved as if they were doing us a favor rather than providing service expected at a resort of this price point. Food quality was another major letdown. Options were limited and overall not enjoyable. We also experienced last-minute cancellations of excursions without clear explanations, which disrupted our plans and added to the frustration. Positives: The beach itself is beautiful (though you could enjoy the same beach while staying at a better resort nearby). The ULC breakfast was decent compared to the rest of the dining options. Overall: The resort did not live up to expectations, especially considering the cost. I would suggest exploring other options in Punta Cana for a better experience.

Just back from spending 10 days here with my Wife and 2 children (9 and 8) and had a lovely holiday, for the most part. Here is my honest review of our time here both positive and negative (please take note of the negatives). Firstly the positives: The hotel grounds are gorgeous and very well kept. Our room was spacious and comfortable (family suite), ours was kept clean and tidy daily with fresh towels and the fridge restocked with a few drinks each day, a couple of cans of beer, fanta, coke, sprite and water. The beach is just what you would expect from the Carribean, golden white sands and warm crystal water just 5 minutes from your room. The pool is reasonable, we had over half our days spent here, it's not the largest and the shallow area for younger kids would get busy, with adults around the swim up bar and pool activities using this space during certain times of the day but for the most part it's good. Waterpark is only a 5-10 minute walk and there is a shuttle running back and forth if you dont feel like walking. The kids splash park is great, there's a small baby wet play area too with a handful of bigger slides for kids aged around 8+ and adults. A la carte restaurants are included in the all inclusive when booked in advance (important this is done early), these are a major step up from the buffet and well worth booking. The Japanese restaurant was a great experience, food was just ok but the show cooking made it our favourite. Snack bars have enough choice to keep you going between breakfast and dinner and are located right next to the pool and beach. Now for the negatives: Staff, for the most part are miserable. Look fed up and like it's an inconvenience to serve you. Tipping makes or breaks the service you recieve for everything in the hotel, even at the buffets, but rather than you tipping for the service you recieve you are tipping to recieve the service you should expect as standard, especially at a hotel that regards itself as 5 star, which it certainly isn't, 4 star at best. If you dont tip at the start you get a substandard service and will be ignored over others. To get the service you should get as standard you would need to spend about $30-$40 a day on tips. Beach and pool has around a third of the beds with shades which are invariably reserved before most people are even awake, even though they have a no reserving beds policy. You either play the sunbed game or have to deal with no shade for the day. If you get down to the pool after 10 you're lucky to get a bed at all. Waterpark is in need of repair. The splash park is great but the waterslides are flaking paint, expect cuts / grazes if you catch you feet or elbows on the way down. The steps up the tower to the slides are a hazard, there are broken slats on the steps and sharp metal edges on the lips of each level that will cut your feet if you step on the wrong spot or bash a foot on a step on the way up. We noticed this on our first visit and warned the kids but inevitably our son sliced a toe open on our final visit. We saw other kids with foot injuries too. The dreaded concierge service is essentially there to push sales and membership but you are pushed to use their services to book your A La Carte meals. Do NOT agree to the special breakfast, this is a sit down breakfast with a manager which you are escorted to and pushed to buy into their membership. We avoided this after seeing reviews warning against it but when we turned it downt their attitude towards us completely changed. There is another way to book your a la carte meals via their customer site which you have access to via the QR code on the towel card wallet, you really have to dig through all of the options on this to find it but I would advise you do. Buffet food is basic and after a few days feels very repetitive. The seats in the booths are half broken / sunken and kids struggle reaching the tables to eat. Again, dont tip and your lucky to get more than one drinks service during your meal. Make sure to take all of the essentials, we needed an extra bottle of suncream for our kids and it cost us $33.! Entertainment wasnt great. Overall, while we had a good holiday as a family, for the experience we had it certainly wasnt what we had expected for the money we paid. I reiterrate this is, at a push, a 4 star at best. There are almost certainly better resorts for the money.

We had such a beautiful experience at Grand Sirenis Punta Cana that I felt compelled to share. First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the hotel for their kindness and attention throughout our stay. A special mention to Nelson, our concierge, who made everything so easy and welcoming; Joan M. the lifeguard at the pool, who greeted us every single day with the biggest smile; and Miguel and Isac at the bar, who made the best cocktails with such contagious energy. I also can't forget the kindness and attention of Dona Juanita, the lady who took care of cleaning the room. Before coming, I read some negative reviews and honestly, I feel sorry for those experiences. But I truly believe that sometimes people arrive without an open heart to understand the reality and culture of this country. The Dominican Republic is a place where people work incredibly hard to offer the best they can, within their means and their culture and that deserves respect. If I can share one piece of advice: whenever possible, leave a small tip. These workers leave their simple homes every day to come into this beautiful resort a place that feels like a bubble, very different from their daily reality and they still give their absolute best with warmth and pride. The hotel is beautiful, the beach is truly paradise, and the food is delicious. If you come with an open heart, ready to embrace the people and the culture, we absolutely recommend this place. We would come back without hesitation.
Mid - There are much better options in Punta Cana. Water park is only plus.

Because the kids had a good time, I would give 2.5 stars. The food was 1 star. The room was 2.5 and the service was mostly 1 to 2 star. No one was happy to be working. No smiles. Just felt like it was a bother to ask for service. There are no servers that come to you at pool or beach. You stand in line to get drinks. The machines did not freeze and the ice was half frozen so beer and wine (one choice for white and red) was what we stuck too. The lobby had one bar that would use their blender for better drinks and did a good job with martinis. The towel situation was bothersome (you get one card per person and lost towel or card is $20 at checkout) I kept good track but it was a pain when they ran out or closed because you had to drag your one towel around with you. Overall, subpar. I was surprised that they were pushing time share sales. Property was dated but rooms were mostly clean and bedding was ok. We slept. It was more like glamping and not resort-style we have become accustomed too in Punta Cana. Standout Employees were Yudy at reception and Angelica in the Greek-themed restaurant. They were 5 star!
