Great family friendly resort

Barbara M on Jan 09, 2026

Bahia Grand Tulum we have 2 kids age 5 and 8, we stayed in a 2 bedroom, which is one bedroom with open concept bathroom and a living space with pull out couch and 2nd bathroom. We access the room via chips in our wrist bands, which is awesome, no longer needed to keep and hide a key in a bag or pocket when leaving the room. Room was clean and well maintained. Bed and pull out bed were comfortable. Bedroom had lots of room, we had a single size blow up bed and there was room for a second blow up bed or full size pack n play if needed. The open concept bathroom in the bedroom has a window made of textured glass cubes so if you have someone who naps during the day, it will be hard to make the room completely dark. There are blackout blinds and storm shutters for the balcony doors though. There is a private toilet room, but the light is on a sensor so anyone going pee at night will turn on the light. The power to the room is also on a sensor, so after leaving the room everything including a/c and fan turn off. It did not seem to happen at night as others reported. The buffet was amazing, probably one of the best I've had at a Mexican resort. The breakfast has an egg/omelet station, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, kid's station, Mexican favorites. We brought takeout containers from home and would grab some pastries for our morning snack to avoid the walk back to the buffet. Our room was close to the splash park, so it was a walk to get to the buffet when we ate there. For lunch we ate at The Truck, right by the splash park and small pool, delicious food and fairly quick, burgers, nuggets, tacos and make your own nachos were all awesome. You can order from the app before you even leave your lounger or the pool which is handy. We grabbed pastries there for our afternoon snack. We ate at the buffet for most suppers and it was always delicious. There is a pasta station open every night, Mexican section, Asian section with delicious sushi, Indian section, salad bar, pizza and kid's section, plus they have a theme sections for whatever part of the world they are featuring each night. Christmas eve supper was amazing with turkey and the regular fixings and beautiful Christmas themed desserts. There are several do it yourself pop, water, beer and slushy stations but the plastic cups are hard to come by, so bring your own tumblers/ waterbottles to enjoy. For a la carte, we booked the restaurants a week before we arrived via the app, highly recommend as other reviews say they couldn't get in once they arrived or only could go at 9pm. La Gran Tortuga Brazilian steakhouse was amazing, great service and kids options at salad bar like nuggets and fries. We were super stuffed when we left. We went to the sister resort Coba for Portofino and enjoyed the Italian food there, 4 courses, all delicious. There was not a lot of info on how the tram works around the multiple resorts, unless you ask. We are big walkers so it didnt matter until we were going to another resort. The towels are located at the Amstar booth, it took us multiple walks around to figure that out, there are no signs at all pointing that out. They asked if we wanted to book tours when we would exchange the towels. Our kids loved the small pool, Zuma splash park and the "spider" splash park, along with the dry park. All close together so easy to go from one to the other. The beach has a bit of garbage and sea weed, with some rocky parts. The waves were big the whole time we were there so we didn't go out far. But walking on the beach and sand castles were fun. It was a great time.

Did not meet expectations for the price

Mickey_Sali (Ontario, California) on Jan 09, 2026

I was disappointed with this hotel. We arrived after midnight, and the following morning we went to guest service to book the restaurant reservations. We waited for a very long time in line. We noticed 1 of the 2 guest service booths were always closed. After the long wait, they informed us that there were no available reservations during our stay :-0!!!! They squeezed us in the Indian cuisine restaurant which is not one of our favorite cuisines. The buffet would’ve been better choice for us. The outdoor/grounds area was always clean, but there were not enough lounge chairs. The main reason I would not return to this hotel is the room conditions. Water came out of the shower every time we showered. It was not leveled. Also, the sink faucet was loose, water came up to the top of the sink and on to the floor. We booked two rooms and both rooms had the same issue. We used most of our towels to dry the water mess. Although the room was cleaned daily, the bedding had a very weird smell, not a fresh clean smell as we are used to when paying a high hotel price. The daily activities were entertaining, especially the mariachi. All the staff were nice and helpful, especially in the buffet area. The buffet was average, most of the food lacked flavor. The best part of our stay was the New Year celebration/buffet. We enjoyed all you can eat lobster and prime rib. The live band and shows were amazing. This made up for some of our challenges during our stay.

Nice holiday

Debbienics (Maidstone, United Kingdom) on Jan 09, 2026

We stayed for Christmas and New Year family of 4 in a 2 bed room. The room itself was very spacious and having 2 bathrooms was great. Very dated but beds were comfortable. Food The buffet was okay nice selection of food make sure you download the Bahia app and pre-book the a’la carte’s before you go. Don Pablo was by far the best the Indian was the worst but that’s personal taste. Sunbeds Lots of pool choices and lots of sunbeds the outdoor drinks machines were very hit and miss, mostly didn’t work by the pool by the main buffet restaurant and the were never any cups. The pool is freezing !! Coldest resort pool I’ve ever been in. New Year’s Eve We did buy a table but it was uncomfortable and not worth it. The band up till 1030pm were terrible the disco afterwards was much better. There are lots of seats outside VIP area to sit in it’s definitely not worth the money. Then when we came to check out they had put 2 charges on our room for New Years Eve it was a battle for us to get it off with them saying we had to prove we didn’t have 2 tables but eventually they refunded us. Things you must take Your own larger drink holders don’t wait to buy them they are a minimum of £20 each in the shops for small ones ! Pool inflatables £40 for a pool lilo at the hotel Crisps if you want a snack ! They are $10 a pack in the shops Medicine take it with you it’s very very expensive in the shop. The most disappointing thing was no drinks service to your sunbeds. We have stayed at the Akumal before and this is a much better hotel with much better and more personal service. You had to queue up at the bar for drinks in a long line bit annoying. Would I stay here again no, I’d definitely stay at the Akumal again. Saying that it’s nice just nice but I won’t be back.

Great family resort!

Angi R (Guelph, Canada) on Jan 07, 2026

12 of us to went Mexico and stayed at the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum - it is a great family resort. It’s very spacious and spread out. At one end of the resort is the kids pool with a water park and a swimming pool. Steps away is the beach. And steps in the other direction is the food truck. The kids LOVED being able to go up and order whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. At the other end of the resort is the quiet pool (quiet just means there isn’t any music, it does not mean adults only). Steps away from that is the beach. There’s also a busier larger pool in the centre of the resort. Two of our days were very windy so we had some great waves! The food is incredible. So much variety. And definitely something for everyone. One night, one of the young kids ate only churros for dinner. Hahah! The à la carte restaurants are really good, too, with large menus. Because of our large group we arranged private transport to and from the airport rather than taking the airline transport (where they stop at every other resort along the way). I’m glad we did because of our party size. Each of our rooms had a king size bed and a pull out couch. This is fine for two people or a family of 3, but one of our groups had two adults and two children. Their two children were not comfortable sharing the pull out couch - they’re 9 and 11 and too big. Unfortunately after asking for a cot, they were told there weren’t any more available. They were given extra blankets to make a bed on the floor. Not cool. We did a half day excursion to the Mayan ruins. Would definitely recommend.

Nice Resort, But Serious Safety Concerns

Care_78 (Toronto, Canada) on Jan 07, 2026

We stayed at this resort from December 10–17 with family and friends. Overall, we enjoyed many aspects of our stay; however, my main concern, and a very serious one, is the extremely slippery flooring throughout the pool area and lobby. During our stay, I personally witnessed at least six people fall, including my elderly mother and my husband. Unfortunately, my mother fell twice, resulting in severe bruising. It was upsetting to see how common these incidents were, and it is alarming that such a significant safety issue appears to remain unaddressed. I am not sure what type of flooring has been installed, but whatever material is being used is dangerously slippery and poses a clear risk to guests, especially seniors. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured. I sincerely hope the resort takes this matter seriously and addresses it promptly. Guest safety should always be a top priority, and this issue needs immediate attention before a much worse accident occurs.
