It's been 35+ years since my last trip to Mexico. Shame on me! It was wonderful, relaxing and a really great and large resort. Rooms: We were in building 42 in a Junior Suite. It's been renovated and lovely and clean. If you're not wanting to walk you can always catch a golf cart train to wherever you need to go. The bed and pillows were comfy and I had no back issues and my son slept on the pull out couch and said it was great. Check In: Was fast, helpful, and if you don't like where you're being situated, they'll work to find you another room. We used them several times afterward as my sunglasses were lost :( to see if anyone turned them in. They were very helpful in looking. Buffet and A La Carte: If you want A La Carte, I found it hard to get a reservation. I had 4 to use but was only able to get 1 (yet others came next day and got 3), so my key take away is check as soon as you get there and book and check every day. We got a reservation at Tortuga and it was amazing! Don't fill up on the appies or buffet as it was all you can eat meat on spits brought to your table. So so good. The buffet was really good. The dining room opens at 6 and the choices of food were great. We enjoy going every day. At the main pool, there is a BBQ place for hot dogs and hamburgers, that opens at 12:00. Good if you want to stay at the pool. Pools: The main pool is the party place. The swim up bar fun, bubble party on the Saturday, and the pool was refreshingly cool yet so comfortable to hang out in for a long time. We took advantage of the pool near Unit 42, it was quiet, had a bar and at 1 pm would serve a light taco snack. Perfect if you want a more serene place. The other side of the resort had the kids section (near Tortuga), and midnight buffet. This is a huge resort, go see it all. Had a teens club and little kids program. Shopping: You can take a cab to Playa De Carmen, about 30 min. to go to the flea markets/shopping. At the top of the Tulum resort is the Hacienda, a little square/plaza, where you can buy souvenirs and katches. Bracelets run arond 200-300 pecos (about $15 USD), but you can negotiate. There is also a casino, and at night, I believe there is a like a club/stage where they have music. Most vendors take pecos (100 pecos = $5 USD or $7 CAD) or USD, not much CAD. You can covert your money at the front desk AND they take credit card. There are also ATM machines to take out in USD or in PECO's, but there is a $245 peco fee so be aware. Tips: If you bought a package from Air Canada, Sunwing etc... the bus from the Cancun airport will take you to the resort (2 hours). When you get your luggage, go straight outside to the outdoor bus area and look for your represetative. We got scammed, looking for our Air Canada rep, timeshare people saying they were Air Canada and we ended up paying $40 USD deposit for a "free trip" to Chichiniza (yeah, we should have know better). Walk right on by to the outside bus area. If you book a trip to Tulum or Chichiniza, take an umbrella for the sun. Not a lot of shade, and Mexico is HOT! Take 30-50 sunscreen. I am a sun worshiper and it almost took me out. 50 is the way to start and maybe then 30. Trust me on this and reapply in pool often. Go early and get your chairs underneath a shade cabanna, as the sun gets very hot, and you'll be glad to have the shade. There are lovely Mexican racoons, lizards and camiberas on the property, so cool. You'll have to go to the south end of the resort if you want swimable beach. Bring water shoes. If you book Tulum, you can visit Coba, but you cannot eat or drink there. Great place and would recommend any Bahia Principe, and this resort didn't disappoint.
Do NOT Book Here

Going there next week and we are already disappointed. No reservations are available at every sit-down restaurant except the Indian restaurant. We were trying to book 10 days out and nothing is available and they are giving us no options. I would NOT book here again and not looking forward to my week now, we have 14 people we are traveling with and we all paid full price which should include sit-down service. Shameful!!!!
