I can’t believe this place is a Marriott, pictures and price are totally deceiving, looks disgusting and area looks dangerous. Thank God we only stayed one night after a late flight arrival and used points . The front office cleric was very polite and offer us ‘free parking’ as courtesy due to how far our room was , I thought was included in such a high price for could only be categorized as a motel, at best
Change out the carpet! Stinky!

Spent over a week here for a baseball tournament with 9-10 year old boys. The location is near the freeway, easy for on/off traveling and great for walking into old town for food. We ate at Miguel’s (2x) and it was delicious! Highly recommend. They serve a warm breakfast every morning which was great for all the boys to eat together, but the options were limited and sub-par. The kids spent more time making fun of what they were eating Vs actually eating. The hallways have doors that close causing the hallways to smell this awful mildewy rotten smell. Every day we would prop the doors open to try and get some fresh air, and let the smell out, but hotel staff would close them again. The hotel was very expensive….and it is old, outdated and dirty. It desperately needs a remodel and update. Various days we were there had broken things: one day was the hot tub, one day was the elevator….. We had to do a room block for our tournament thru USSSA baseball. The pool was decent but small, once our team got in we unfortunately ran anyone else who was in there out since it is super shallow, only 3.5 feet. We had a great experience because we were all together, but for what this hotel is charging they need to upgrade!
Unexpected charges and noisy neighbors = a frustrating stay in a beautiful place

The hotel room was small compared to other properties, and I assume this was more historical in nature than the design of the hotel. That said, the room was clean and the mattress was more comfortable than some Marriott properties I’ve stayed. The walls/adjoining doors were not very sound proof. One morning I was awoken by the sound of music coming from my neighbors room at 6:30 in the morning… Was not happy. My bigger issue with this hotel was the fact that I was charged multiple $10 holds on my card (two of the days I received two charges in one day). When I contacted the hotel they said they had no idea why these charges were placed on my card, abut assured me they would “drop off” upon check out. It’s now two days post check-out and the charges are still there. I contacted the hotel again and the hotel manager said I would need to speak to accounting and inquire about the holds, but I would have to leave them a message and wait for a call back. I had $230 in “holds” on my account when I checked out of the hotel, and so far only the $100 incidentals charge has “dropped off”. This is not good business and tied up available funds on my travel credit card I use for business expenses. It was a significant inconvenience to deal with.
Great walkable location

VERY walkable location to Old Town San Diego. If you can, don't bother driving here as parking is $27 per night. Rooms seem older but redone. Bed was comfortable. There is both a refrigerator, microwave, ironing board and hair dryer in the rooms. Rooms are spacious and we didn't hear much noise while we were here. There is a free hot breakfast. As a Celiac, I stuck to fruit and the sausage patties. Beware that they put oatmilk (not gluten free) in the carafe for cereals, while regular (extremely pasteurized tasting) milk comes in cartons stored in the fridge. Overall it's a fine place to stay if you're going to be out and about sightseeing. I thought the courtyard was very pretty. Only stayed one night so we didn't have any issues with thieving cleaning staff per other reviews. Visited: June 2023
What is that noise vibrating my whole room???

Sleep here is difficult. I don’t think it’s the same for every room, but I’m staying in room 356 and was awakened both nights by a godawful and rhythmic whirring that vibrates the whole room/ceiling and floor. It wasn’t constant but it was long and frequent. It made staying asleep very difficult. It’s something coming from a different room, maybe utility room or roof? While lying awake, the smell of sewage kept wafting through the room as well. I’m laying awake at 4am, frustrated at dealing with this before a long day of business and travel. I tried to add a video for sound, but page will only allow photos. As someone with tinnitus, I usually love constant noise, but this is unsettling and can not be covered up by other white noise. Bring ear plugs!
