I was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed this hotel. It was clean, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The continental breakfast was surprisingly yummy and they changed up the hot options daily.
The 24/7 free coffee and tea were a huge bonus to a pair of insomniatic parents who were hitting all the kid-friendly tourist spots.
The pool was heated and clean. The hot tub was nice and toasty, though the jets could have had more pressure, but that's our only complaint and it's minor. We were the only ones using the pool (I suspect this was because we stayed Monday - Friday), so we felt like it was all ours. It was prefect for our 7-year-old as it was a consistent depth of 3.5 feet. She could touch the bottom with no issues and we could still comfortably swim it, too.
There was also a shower and bathrooms at the pool and the pool towels were always stocked and clean.
Fairfield Inn old Town San Diego … Good and bad

When I saw the old
Mission style building rustic , and close to old town , prefect for a getaway for a couple . Came in on Saturday , early check in , after talking to front desk , afraid of the road noise right outside the window , I say please , make sure we can get a room that is quiet . I was assured room 236 had no one complained. by far . Wrong. the worst room I had for a
Long time.. elevator right out the door . Key card entrance to another hallway right outside the door . Noise all night plus the A/C comes on where we have to turn up the TV volume . They redeemed themselves second night by moving us to third floor, little balcony , beautiful room . So my advice , there are bad rooms that can ruin your night. Make sure you get a front desk clerk who is helpful .
No bar on the premise but free
Breakfast . I can say , clerks make a difference .

I can’t believe this place is a Marriott, pictures and price are totally deceiving, looks disgusting and area looks dangerous. Thank God we only stayed one night after a late flight arrival and used points . The front office cleric was very polite and offer us ‘free parking’ as courtesy due to how far our room was , I thought was included in such a high price for could only be categorized as a motel, at best
Change out the carpet! Stinky!

Spent over a week here for a baseball tournament with 9-10 year old boys. The location is near the freeway, easy for on/off traveling and great for walking into old town for food. We ate at Miguel’s (2x) and it was delicious! Highly recommend.
They serve a warm breakfast every morning which was great for all the boys to eat together, but the options were limited and sub-par. The kids spent more time making fun of what they were eating Vs actually eating.
The hallways have doors that close causing the hallways to smell this awful mildewy rotten smell. Every day we would prop the doors open to try and get some fresh air, and let the smell out, but hotel staff would close them again.
The hotel was very expensive….and it is old, outdated and dirty. It desperately needs a remodel and update. Various days we were there had broken things: one day was the hot tub, one day was the elevator…..
We had to do a room block for our tournament thru USSSA baseball. The pool was decent but small, once our team got in we unfortunately ran anyone else who was in there out since it is super shallow, only 3.5 feet.
We had a great experience because we were all together, but for what this hotel is charging they need to upgrade!
Unexpected charges and noisy neighbors = a frustrating stay in a beautiful place

The hotel room was small compared to other properties, and I assume this was more historical in nature than the design of the hotel. That said, the room was clean and the mattress was more comfortable than some Marriott properties I’ve stayed. The walls/adjoining doors were not very sound proof. One morning I was awoken by the sound of music coming from my neighbors room at 6:30 in the morning… Was not happy.
My bigger issue with this hotel was the fact that I was charged multiple $10 holds on my card (two of the days I received two charges in one day). When I contacted the hotel they said they had no idea why these charges were placed on my card, abut assured me they would “drop off” upon check out. It’s now two days post check-out and the charges are still there. I contacted the hotel again and the hotel manager said I would need to speak to accounting and inquire about the holds, but I would have to leave them a message and wait for a call back. I had $230 in “holds” on my account when I checked out of the hotel, and so far only the $100 incidentals charge has “dropped off”.
This is not good business and tied up available funds on my travel credit card I use for business expenses. It was a significant inconvenience to deal with.
