The Handlery hotel is our favorite place to stay whenever visiting San Diego. Breakfast at Postcards is always so good and fiesta hour at the Reef Lounge is great. All staff at hotel is always so friendly and welcoming. We love getting the rooms on the first floor facing the pool. My son loves sitting out on the patio enjoying his breakfast overlooking the pool. Location is great and not far from airport and downtown. If you’re looking for a place to stay in San Diego, we highly recommend the Handlery. Make sure to grab the truffle fries and islander colada slushie from Reef Lounge and a cookie at check in! Good room for the price. Great location- close and convenient drive to SDSU, staff was friendly, happy hour food was really good, $25 daily parking, cookies and coupons given when checking in. Walls are thin but the hotel is old, so this is understandable. Landscaping/plants were neat (tropical), the hotel was packed with a card show, car show, 2 conventions and still had great service, no issues with parking.

Staying at Handlery Hotel San Diego was very nice. I felt like I was family. The pool and hot tub were fantastic, and the food and coffee at their restaurant were very good and reasonably priced with great service.

booked this hotel months in advance for an event and specifically contacted the hotel about accessibility because my girlfriend has a medical condition that significantly limits her ability to walk. I was assured we would have a downstairs, pool-facing room close to the event hall and was also told early check-in would be possible if I called that morning. The day before arrival, I was told the requested room was unavailable and early check-in wasn't possible. Despite the notes on my reservation, our needs were not properly accommodated. We were ultimately assigned a second-floor room with no elevator access, forcing me to carry our luggage upstairs while assisting my girlfriend. Another guest actually had to help us. The problems continued. The hotel had no functioning A/C, making the property extremely hot, and the A/C in our room barely worked. We also found ants throughout the bathroom and a dead bug in the room, which I documented with photos and video. The refrigerator wasn't working either, which was especially concerning because my girlfriend had medication that needed refrigeration. Maintenance eventually fixed it, but after the room was cleaned, ants were still present. The staff was generally rude and unhelpful, and the information we received was inconsistent. We were told we couldn't check in early because previous guests had requested late checkout, yet at checkout we were told late checkout wasn't offered at all. I booked this hotel specifically to ensure someone with limited mobility would be properly accommodated. Unfortunately, almost none of what I was promised was delivered. Poor accessibility, poor communication, cleanliness issues, no A/C, and disappointing customer service. I would not stay here again.

Was in San Diego for a friend’s birthday and stayed at the Handlery Hotel because of its great location. The room was okay and the hotel has a great big pool with a bar and restaurant, which made for a nice, relaxing stay. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed our stay!
