After the happy chaos of big family celebration I escaped on my own for five days over the May/June period. I wasn't looking for European boutique, charming historic, artsy crafty or hip. Just a nice room with a great view if possible, good service and, of course, comfortable. Although I've been coming to SF for more than 50 years this time I wanted to walk and taste my way around the city. And I wanted a nice base to return to each evening to relax and refresh myself for the next day's exploration.
This hotel met my needs. From the friendly doormen to the front desk and housekeeping, everyone was cordial, helpful and professional. And my upper floor room offered a great view of the city and the bay beyond.
Covid has caused confusion with mandates, regs. recommendations. cutting of services, closures, etc. When I booked my stay, the hotel's bar and restaurant were closed except maybe on weekends. When I got my welcome reminder a few days prior to arrival I noticed a $25 daily destination charge that wasn't on my original confirmation. Turned out that the bar and restaurant were going back in business on the day I arrived. I was quickly assure that I wouldn't be charged the fee unless I wanted the package that included credits that could be used for food and drinks, cable car passes, etc. Since I was intent on tasting as much of the city as I could, I passed on the deal. The buffet breakfast is $30. Most good breakfasts in the area run close to that, so using daily credits might make it a good deal for you.
Secur is great. You need to use your room key to operate the elevators.
Great stay, amazing view

A great remodeled, cozy and spacious room on one of the top floors (21st if I'm not mistaken). Amazing view facing the Bay and Coit Tower!
The suit was clean, smelled good and was really pleasant to stay in.
The staff was super friendly and helpful as well.
Would definitely recommend and stay there next time we visit SF.
A Great Location within the City by the Bay
(Shah Alam, Malaysia)

Am a Platinum Elite and was staying for 5 nights.
Location was great, only a block from Union Square and all the shopping areas. Cable cars were also very easily accessible from this location.
The initial check-in experience was not very welcoming and the guy seemed rather disgruntled that we checked in so late. We just needed a good sleep so took whatever he could give. The following morning I requested for an upgrade. Jeff was much better at handling the situation and said this could have easily been sorted out the previous night as an upgrade was available. Another notable mentioned was Kelley who was very switched and always made sure each encounter was pleasant and hospitable.
Breakfast was at the Concierge Lounge at Level 28 to which had a spectacular view of the city. Food offerings were alright but what made the experience great was the hospitality by Abdul and Bhu, both of whom were exceptional and smiled all the time.
The sad part was that the lounge was only open for breakfast on Monday till Friday. Nothing was offered outside these hours which was a bit of a bummer
Housekeeping standards were excellent and beds very comfortable after a long day in the city. They even greeted me in the morning which was nice.
Would consider this hotel again in future by virtue of its location.
A great choice in San Francisco

We stayed one night. The room was lovely and cozy, the bed comfortable (not overly firm, which is the case with so many hotels), and the location felt safe and was convenient enough to everything. But the real standout about this place is the people. Everyone we encountered was so nice. I want to give a SPECIAL shout-out to the doorman Fernando. He remembered us every time and was so nice and took such initiative to be helpful. He even jumped to open my car door (traffic side) and make sure I was safe. We could not have been more impressed with him or felt more welcomed. We would definitely stay here again!
Decent overhaul of an aged Holiday Inn, but with limitations
May 02, 2022
The Marriott Union Square is a good example of how attentive to detail Marriott corporate requires of those that are reflagging aged hotels when switching to the Marriott brand from another. This was an old Holiday Inn that had a top to bottom renovation with 90% of the surfaces and areas overhauled with new finishes and touches. It's very clean and well located (Union Square, Financial Center).
It lacks working areas though. The lobby is a few chairs and the bar area is closed off during the day. It's small and unassuming...not a place you want to spend time working at all. This is a big miss I think on the owners who likely want to target tech and unencumbered workers like myself. The club lounge is closed to elite members after 11:00 am, so there was no space to work for a pinch or extended time.
Elite recognition was limited (Titanium). No upgrade, but no issues with late checkout and breakfast either.
