Not RIU standard, more Days Inn.

SteveMK2023 (Milton Keynes, United Kingdom) on Sep 22, 2023

We’re seasoned Riu guests, having stayed at a number of their hotels in Europe, particularly the amazing Riu Palace in Maspolomas in Spain. We booked here expecting that same 4/5 star Riu experience. But it wasn’t to be. It’s VERY EXPENSIVE. With further added fees on arrival for use of, wait for it, the gym, pool and fire pits (that are in public areas that anyone could walk up and use). There must be a ruse here such that the room price advertised seems competitive until these additional MANDATORY fees are hidden in small print until you arrive. It’s a slight of hand worthy of politicians. I mean, who charges guests to use the pool and gym! The parking is extortionate at $57 a day!! But then car crime is rife in San Francisco. No point parking elsewhere as it’s all very expensive. The huge aircon unit in the room is incredibly noisy. It’s like having a generator unit in the room. The room itself is ok and clean, but the bathroom is ridiculously small such that you have to do a contortion to close the door. There’s a single sink in an area outside the bathroom with barely any space for your items. The breakfast is simply an awful affair. Whilst the food it plentiful and the usual fare, the throngs of people elbowing their way around, and the queues to get in just make the whole experience very unpleasant. If you can wait, the best time to go is between 0930-1030. The only thing of benefit was the location, just a block away from the tourist hotspot of Pier 39. However, it remains popular with guests. It’s busy. Overall, this wasn’t the experience I’ve come to expect from a Riu hotel. You’d be better off going to a local cheaper motel and walking the extra block or two. You could try The Wharf Inn just across the road which currently offers free parking, saving you £160+. There’s an IHOP a few metres away too.

Bit pricey but in a good position for getting around

Salavers on Sep 21, 2023

We had a superior king room. Comfortable bed and pillows. But disappointed that our balcony overlooked a flat roof, while other balconies overlooked the pool etc and had nicer views. The breakfast had everything you can think of but could have been hotter. The option to pay for late checkout was disappointing as had to pay 35 dollars an hour for the privilege. They also take 259 dollar from the credit card just in case you buy drink from the bar or have any extras. Thought this was a bit much. They could just hold the details until you check out and then charge your card. I'm now waiting for a refund for something we didn't have or planned on ever using as we pay as we go.

Good choice but expensive

vprunner11 (Zurich, Switzerland) on Sep 21, 2023

The Hotel was a very good overall choice, but its a bit expensive for a long stay. The location was super and the rooms clean. The breakfast was super for a US Hotel. We come back next time whenwe are in SF for sure

Very pleasant stay

Spacious, modern and clean hotel. Very convenient location near Fisherman’s Warf. Our room was very clean and was available before noon which was a huge plus for us! The rooms could be isolated better, but we had a good night sleep. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Hard Pass.

Resort12351486696 (Brooklyn, New York) on Sep 20, 2023

This property is overpriced, dusty, and chaotic. The only good thing about this property is some staff members and even so, that is questionable. I got charged an extra fee from reception, I’ve tried to call the property several times since I’ve checked out and have received no answer from anyone as to why there was an added charge to my invoice. If anything, I believe I deserve a compensation and refund for what has happened. The breakfast was incredibly bland (their whole queuing system for breakfast is not good at all), the property is dark and dull, and often noisy at night with no actual quiet hours because of children and louder adults. This hotel is a hard pass and not worth the money it costs to stay here. It’s upsetting because I know the brand is known for its ambience and style, but this property doesn’t uphold the standards of the brand at all. Disappointing!
