Westin can do better

ladylolo (Vancouver, Canada) on Feb 02, 2025

Stayed for 4 nights in a one bedroom suite for a conference with family tagging along. Historically, this conference has been held in another Whistler hotel and I hope the conference switches back next year. I think if you haven’t stayed in another Whistler hotel, the Westin Whistler can meet your needs. However, given the conference rate was more than the other hotel and the Westin offered less, it was an ok stay. Westin doesn’t seem to offer good conference rates and only for the most basic room. The pros: - Close proximity to the lifts. - Quick access to the village. - Kitchenette for making snacks. - Conference food was good. The cons: - Shower stall is tiny, about 60 cm x 60 cm. - The “heavenly bed” ceases to be heavenly of days past. I didn’t find the bed all that comfortable and slept poorly in spite in the physical exhaustion from skiing. The duvet is still fluffy, but the mattress is not plush and the pillows leave a lot to be desired. - The pool amenities are inadequate for the size of the hotel. Only two hot tubs and the pool is cold. Since the pool is cold, children often play in the hot tub but that is not ideal given the size. There are no hooks to hang your belongings and no drink service. - Ski valet incurs an extra charge and they only store skis. You have to keep your boots and poles in your room. Attendants are only at the base between 2-4 pm to collect skis so you have to carry your skis back at other times. - No festive atmosphere. The common areas feel very stale. We enjoyed our trip, but I think Westin can do more than just be merely adequate.

Run of the mill

dxb_travelsmart (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) on Jan 30, 2025

I would rate the hotel between 3 and 4 stars if it was possible. Net net, the place is well kept, rooms are decent but outdated and service is good at the breakfast restaurant, but less great at reception. Overall quality of food, rooms and service do not live up to the Westin brand, definitely lower than other Westin hotels I stayed at in Europe. Check in was not efficient and with a clear lack of flexibility. After a long intercontinental flight and an upfront message to request for an earlier checkin, there was little to no effort shown to accommodate which is disappointing. I have stayed at better hotels in Whistler and would choose another one next time.

Pillow nightmare

Carol V (Sydney, Australia) on Jan 22, 2025

They now only use High Firm Pillows Our 3rd time back at Westin, staying for 8 nights this time. Previous 2 times, we stayed for 7+ nights, so all is good hence we keep coming back. However, they now no longer have an alternative pillow option. They now only use High Firm Pillows. Despite the Well Being pamphlet in the room stating the different pillows they offer. Most people may have no issues with this, but there are some people out there, like me who can’t sleep on one. We have long days on the slopes and 3 nights in, i have not had a good night sleep and am developing a stiff neck and back. Despite sleeping on their Next Generation Heavenly® Bed. I’ve spoken to the front desk several times, but they tell me there is nothing they could do as they have changed all their pillows to the High Firm Pillow. I’ve resorted to asking for an extra fleece blanket, an extra duvet and even extra towels for me to rest my head on, but neither of these are providing the much needed support. So for anyone who sleeps with Soft Pillows, best bring your own. For us, needless to say we will not be coming back to Whistler Westin again. And for me a trip to see a Physio when this holiday ends.

This hotel was fabulous! Great room, amenities, service , food, bar and value for money! Highly recommended! We stayed during the snow season, the hotel had a ski / snowboard valet as well as access to the hotel car & driver who drove us to ice skating and cultural centre!

Location…Location…Location

3 of us stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with a balcony in the East Tower. Room 801. It was spacious and we had excellent housekeeping services. We enjoyed massages at the spa and spent time in the outdoor pool & hot-tub. We thought the outdoor spa area was way too small for a hotel this size. In the winter I recommend avoiding a car. Use the shuttles to and from Vancouver. The primary reason that we will come back here is the ideal location of the hotel. You can walk to everything and the gondola is less than a minute away if you’re skiing. We found the Fire & Ice hotel bar to be one of the best in the village for craft cocktails. The main hotel restaurant was good for breakfast the first day, but we bought groceries at the village store & happily made our own in the kitchen of our room. Ka-Ze sushi was a great choice for dinner. Contact the hotel concierge to help you with dinner reservations anywhere in the village. Justin did a great job for us and even emailed me a complete list of our reservations for the week. Book ahead for everything at least a month in advance. All of the higher end restaurants in the village were excellent. We stayed over Christmas week when all the hotel rates are at a premium. If you’re new to a Canadian resort destination be ready for the premium prices. This hotel required a full deposit in advance by mid October with no cancellation option. I’ve never seen anything like that in all my travels. But we would go back in a heartbeat. The Atmosphere here is that good!
