Assistance services

If you need support during your journey, we’re happy to assist. The following services are available upon request for flights that are flown by WestJet.

  • “Support person” means a person who is at least 18 years of age and whose assistance is needed after departure and before arrival by a Person with A Disability because of the nature of their Disability.
  • Allow you to move to the front of the line at a check-in counter if you are unable to use a self-service kiosk.
  • If you use a wheelchair or need help moving around, we’ll: 
    • Provide a waiting area near our agents before boarding or while you wait for a connecting flight 
    • Check in with you regularly to see if you need anything and help as needed (as identified in the Canadian Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations.) 
  • Offer a gate pass at select airports so a family member or friend can escort you to your departure gate. (They’ll need valid, unexpired government-issued ID.)
    *Gate passes are determined at the airport, on the day of travel.
  • Help you through security and to your boarding gate.
  • Assist you with boarding and getting off the aircraft.
  • Board early1 if you need help with any of the following:
    • Getting in the aircraft  
    • Finding your seat 
    • Moving between a mobility aid and your seat  
    • Stowing your carry-on or personal item  
    • Hearing a description of the aircraft layout, including washrooms, exits, and seat controls 
    • Having extra time to clean your seating area to reduce allergens
  • Provide a personalized safety briefing and keep you informed of all announcments on board
  • Help open food and beverage packages, cut large portions, and describe your meal and where to find it.
  • Help store and retrieve your carry-on and personal bags when it is safe to do so.
  • Help you use the in-flight entertainment system.  
  • Help you with boarder clearance and collecting your checked baggage.  
  • Take you to the public area after getting off the aircraft or to a spot where terminal staff can assist you with reaching the curbside. If you’re connecting to another flight within the same terminal, we’ll take you to a location where you can get help from your next airline.

1 You must be present at the time of the pre-boarding call in order to use this service. Once general boarding begins, you may be required to board after other passengers.
