In 2012, WestJet launched our international community investment initiative, WestJet Live Different Builds (formerly WestJet Hero Holiday), organized in partnership with Canadian charity Live Different.
A 10-day humanitarian trip to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Live Different Builds is a life-changing initiative where 50 WestJetters immerse themselves in the local community of Nuevo Renacer and build new homes for families living in extreme poverty. Since our inaugural trip in April 2012, more than 250 WestJetters have participated in five trips, building a total of 28 homes for 28 deserving families. They have also made significant enhancements to the local community, including purchasing land for a new club for boys and girls, equipment for a local medical clinic, underwriting the salary of a doctor to be at the clinic three days a week for a year, and refurbishing basketball courts for local youth.
Through WestJet Live Different Builds we are able to bring our caring culture to one of the most impoverished communities in the Dominican Republic.
